Risen 2's combat system was a complete joke and the game wasn't all that good technically, but other than that it's a nice enough RPG. There's quite a bit of Gothic goodness there, you just have to be a lot more patient than usual to get to it Razz

Anyway, it's typical Piranha Bytes. The last universally good game they made was Gothic 2, along with its terrific expansion. Since then, it would seem they always have to majorly fuck something up - I still can't forgive them for the failure that was the original Risen's second half.

Then again, even their failures have something in them. A spark that makes you want to play them, despite having to endure hardships while doing so. That's more than I can say about most developers, to be honest.

I don't think we can call that a half. more like a quarter. It was around 5-10 hours of a 40 hour game in my case.

Just finished it after about 22 hours.

First 1-2 hours were fun. But then i realized how HORRIBLE the combat and it's controls are.
Shorty after that i also just quickly clicked through most dialogs, because the story wasn't really engaging me.
For around 4€ i still had enough hours of "fun". But i would been raging, had i paid more than that.

I'll just quote this, maybe someone wants a replay

Quote:
Like many other Piranha Bytes games, Risen 2 is a flawed gem which needs some polishing. I've collected multiple mods plus included some my own balancing tweaks for gameplay and graphics performance to make the experience as good as possible.

Gameplay features

  • Quest and gameplay fixes from unoff. patch
  • Fixed English translation for muskets and shotguns
  • Fixed weapon icons
  • Pistols balanced to do less damage, but are faster to shoot
  • Muskets balanced to do less damage and are slower to shoot
  • Shotguns balanced do less damage and have shorter range
  • Bullets are twice as expensive
  • Increased high level armor cost
  • NPCs party members are weaker
  • Monsters power and Xp gain tweaked

Graphics features

  • Draw distance increased vastly
  • Item LOD distance increased
  • Increased field of view (FOV)
  • Torches gives shadows and more light
  • Parallax Occlusion Mapping disabled for higher FPS
  • Quality of specular reflections changes for higher FPS
  • Shadows "High" setting tweaked to be less FPS demanding
  • High level vegetation density doubled

Mods included:
- Risen 2 Unofficial patch v0.5
- AntiWarp Mod (High)
- Lookup Specular Mod
- No POM Mod
- LOD Distance Mod
- Dynamic Torch Light Mod
- Rebalancing Mod

Download: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=02406846581781127212

Installation:
Extract to the Risen 2 folder (eg. c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risen 2) and play.

PS. If you need a big performance boost, then lower shadows quality from Ultra to High.
