CD Projekt Red announced this today during their investor call. Singleplayer campaign for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is going to be a standalone release called Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. It's supposed to be released later this year (October).
Some further information:
Thronebreaker will be an RPG game, not a card game.
It will be standalone, users will not need to download Gwent to play it.
In-game actions will be decided by the outcome of Gwent games.
30+ hours of gameplay.
Gwent accounts WILL BE connected to Thronebreaker accounts if you have one, but you don't need a Gwent account to play Thronebreaker.
...
In previous statements, CDPR has pointed out the replayability, decision making and that it will feature multiple difficulty modes. You'll be able to level up the protagonist (Meve), your gear and build a camp to recruit units (which was inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic).
This might be the very first standalone campaign, with more to come based on the success of Thronebreaker. This campaign will focus on Nilfgaard, the next one will feature another faction (Skellige, Northern Realms, ...). Also, CDPR has released a teaser video one year ago, but a lot of things might have changed since then, so take it with a grain of salt.
Originally, the game was called "Gwent Thronebreaker", but they removed the Gwent from its name. There's no official statement so far, but the Community Manager "Burza" mentioned some information every once in a while, stating the game got bigger and bigger over time and isn't mainly about the card aspects any more. So it is indeed less about Gwent and more about the Witcher universe with some Gwent mechanics attached to it.

imo this news is big enough to separate it outside of the MP Gwent thread
Doesn't deserve a second topic though. It's Gwent SP and the card battles are the same as in MP, it doesn't realy matter i've it has a seperate client.
from my understanding only thing that will be similar are the card battles as backbne of gameplay, but thronebreaker has 30h RPG build on top.
"GWENT: The Witcher Card Game" is just the card battles PvP .
from this news it seems like its supposed "sp mode" aka Thronebreaker evolved into openworld RPG of its own with stuff like conversations and HoMM-like recruitment with card battles being just the "underlying battle system" which will most likely be modified for PvE.
Definitely not just matter of a client, seems like its even the reason Thronebreaker dropped Gwent from its name
I guess lets wait and see what will mods decide on this
^Yeah, guess there's no harm in keeping this thread since it's a standalone single-player game.
I'm looking forward to this version, didn't bother with the online one but adored the original Gwent. (Whenever I saw the card icon in the dialogues both me and Geraldo instantly had a huge grin on our faces)
edit:

_____
Thronebreaker started life as a much smaller singleplayer expansion for Gwent, but has since morphed into a campaign CD Projekt expects to take 20-40 hours to finish. In some ways it feels a bit like an adventure game (or even a visual novel) when you're not in combat.

Is this nuked? After the 1st fight and while examining the tent it says "You have received additional resources to craft a new card bla bla..." and yet when I click nothing happens...it's stuck...you can't exit or do anything...
/EDIT: My bad...it seems you have to right clink first THEN craft card...stupid me
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
