Same. Had problems with a typical jig thing, but paperclip solution was easy

While waiting for my SX Pro to arrive I got impatient and I have hacked mine for free. There's a great tutorial on gbatemp on how to make your own jig (granted it took me about an hour to make it and get the switch into RCM mode).
From there I downloaded the ReiNX CFW with tinfoil and I have managed to install a couple of NSPs download from CDNSP without any issue.
As long as my battery doesn't die I don't need to try and rejig it.
I'm telling myself I'll need a Pro at some point but if I had done this before ordering I'm not sure I would have bothered.

Well look at the main benefit: you don't need to hook up your Switch to a PC or phone. That's the reason I bought the Pro - convenience. The jig is pretty good quality too. I basically paid €50 for the dongle, jig, a nice case, plastic covers and an anti-scratch screen protector which is not a bad deal.

So, I managed to buy a new hackable switch.

I already made a working paper clip.

My software version is 4.0.1.

Should I update then hack, maintain version, or what?

Rumors are saying that "one day" you might be able to enjoy an untethered exploit thanks to 4.0.1. But 1.0.0 "might be" more likely.

So IMO yes update, for the sole reason that some games already need 5.0.

After connecting my SD Card it says I have to update for it to work.

Is this true after being hacked?

Yes it's true.. There are ways to update the exFAT loader offline directly on the NAND from your PC but as I said before, I think at this point you should update to 5.1.0 anyway. I find it extremely unlikely that 4.1.0 will have untethered JB.

Tethered is fine anyway, I don't care much. It's like on iOS, not too much of a big deal to enable it on every boot.

I decided not to update.

When a game requires a newer version, is it unplayable or there´s a workaround?

if game is encrypted with master key 5, it's unplayable if you are < 5.X
master key 4 < 4.X

etc

Technically you could reencrypt them for 1.0.0 though but it's complicated, and needs some SDK tools. And there are no tutorials for that.

SX OS 1.5 - finally an option to delete install files once you've installed a game

Apparently it has FTP support as well but I haven't tried it yet

Edit: A lot of people are saying it's very slow :/

As long as it doesnt crash the system like the ftpd app does on large file transfers.

Yeah a bit of a PITA specially for updates I guess but so be it.
There is a tool also to offline install system updates.

So, I guess that means no more updated games for hacked consoles? Unless a method is devised to manually install them and someone keeps dumping and uploading them? Or is there one already?

I'm curious, since my Switch remains legit for now and I want to see what my options are. I couldn't care less about Nintendo's online service - I don't even play that many online games on my PC or PS4, let alone the Switch, which is primarily a handheld for me. But losing updates would be a bit of a pain, especially considering the problems some of the games have after launch.

Also, how does that tool for offline system updates work? Where would you get them from?

it stops apps and obviously the switch itself.

Obviously people that dump stuff from their Switch can still put it on torrent

Sorry, I guess the way I wrote it was a bit unclear. What I meant was DL-ing typical scene releases and then updating them by going online - that won't be possible now, right?

So, my question is, can an updated game be dumped from one Switch and then somehow installed on another? Or can you dump the patch alone and then install it on a pirated game?

Sorry, I read through the thread, but this stuff was constantly changing in the last few months and the current state of things is a bit confusing, tbh.

can an updated game be dumped from one Switch and then somehow installed on another <--- updated files can definitely be dumped from one switch but i'm not sure there is a tool to create an NSP out of it yet but it's 100% doable since there is a tool to dump games that way (they work about the same, but not exactly the same that's why i'm not sure).

Or can you dump the patch alone and then install it on a pirated game <-- you can, but you still need an unbanned cert for that

My SX Pro is working perfectly by the way.

Been playing several games including Breath of the Wild. After all the hype, I expected a far better game, though. This is actually one of the worst Zelda games I've played so far because ...
- weapons breaking after 10 swings = a joke
- repetitive enemies
- an extremely annoying small inventory
- controls can be iffy causing you to die easily
- exploration isn't as rewarding as it should be
- you can waste a LOT of time figuring out how to get somewhere
- the puzzle dungeons do get tedious quickly
- the camera can get annoying

I started out having a lot of fun but it quickly became rather boring once I got the paraglider. Lots of land to explore but it's clear Nintendo doesn't really know yet how to make proper open world games. I do love the idea of a devastated Hyrule but Nintendo doesn't quite deliver. It's like they try to go dark, but then refuse to - a darker Zelda would have been very cool.

I'm not denying that 6.0 can add new safeties and would need new patches but the guy speaking about "sandboxes" doesn't seem to know what he is talking about.

Specially that even 1.0 games are executed into sandboxes... And anyway sandboxes are good to prevent escalating to kernel for exploit. In our case, it's not a problem to get outside of a sandbox since we have access to the whole NAND and can run unsigned code patching the kernel.

They can obfuscate all they want, everything can be decrypted.

Exactly. At worst, it'll mean some soft has to be reworked, slightly different methods have to be used, but as long as there's access to every key (and there is nothing they can do to block the RCM hack on already sold Switches), everything can be broken open just the same. A console has to have access to everything it needs to work and everything it has access to, hackers can get their hands on also. It's a pointless fight at this point.

I also caved in and bought the SX PRO. I'm not really into pirating games anymore, but given Nintendo's prices and the performance problems of some games, I decided it's a solid way to check out whatever I want to get. I dumped the NAND to be able to go back (lets see if TE can indeed separate CFW from OFW, if not, I'll probably have to get a second Switch at some point, since resetting through NAND backup is a bit too time consuming) and the console is permanently offline now - although one mistake did happen, when I had to hard reset the Switch and it booted into original OS with some "unofficial" NSPs installed Smile Turned it off a second later. Not sure if that's enough to get a ban nowadays, we'll see.

Anyway, everything is working perfectly. I decided on SX OS, because it seems to be the most hassle-free, and it really is quite easy to use. One thing of note - be careful with the FTP. In my particular case it crashed the Switch for some reason and I even read of one case when such a crash resulted in a complete brick (don't know if it was made up or not, but the crash itself did happen to me, so just pointing that out).

Yep - couldn't agree more. This game was shit.
