Stupid proper. As if it matters for steam games. I mean, even the dvd version of the game is still the steam version, right ? Also, they're probably using the stolen sid unpacker and a custom installer like other steamrips.

But Prophet = Vitality , sooo it's to be expected. they should stick to their redundant MULTIwhatever re-releases.

i just beat the game. it took me about 8 hours (i skipped all the movies). the graphics are ok. the battle taunts are repetitive (like 'let's kick some a') to the point of annoyance.

i can't really say i like or dislike the story. initially, it was hard to get hooked into the game. i started playing it like 20 mins here and there. until i realize how massive this game is. even after beating it once, i feel i've only scratched the surface of the game.

on my 2nd playthrough, i will take my time and collect everything and do all the activities like complete all the guild quests.

supposedly, after you beat the game once, it gives you a new option called 'new game+' where you start with your equipments and items from your last game.

well, i beat it but don't see an option for 'new game+'. i don't even see a save game with the 'save game completion data' in the load screen. i must have accidentally selected cancel instead of save when it asked to save the 'completion data' at the end of the game.

oh, well, i guess i can reload the last save and beat it again. maybe it'll give me the option again.

update:

i reloaded the last save and beat it again. it turns out the first time, i forgot to save the save game with completion data. anyway, i saved it this time around.

now when i load that completion data, it asks if i want to play in 'hard' mode (but of course, heh, heh). the monsters are supposed to be harder. you do keep some of your money but no weapon/equipment carries over (bummer).

JBeckman -- i'm well into my 2nd play-through. i'm following the wikia page so that i don't miss anything (thanks for the link btw; as usual, you're full of useful information):

http://lastremnant.wikia.com

this page here lists the difference between the pc and 360 version:

http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/Difference_between_Xbox360_and_PC_version

it seems the dev fixed some bugs from the 360 version plus added the DLC content.

i'm playing with turbo combat turned on (which incidentally shows up as turbo off onscreen) this time around. also, there's an option to turn off battle voices (hopefully, this will stop the constant 'let's kick some a' that rush shouts before leaping into every battle).

i find this game works really well with the 360 controller instead of keyboard/mouse. anyway, going back to play some more. Very Happy

You don't get a new option but you can load a "plus+" savegame which lets you start with most of the stuff from your previous playtrough. Smile

Oh and a big part of the story is in those cutscenes so I'd recommend watching them. Smile
(I can understand skipping them though I would still recommend watching them once.)

And yeah there's a ton of things to do and some things require you to do stuff in a certain order as some quests are disabled after certain events or unlocked if you recruit a specific person and so on so doing everything in the game will be very challenging and will take a lot of time.

EDIT: Here's a guide that'll show a bit of what there is to do.

I think he was getting at the fact that he skipped all of the movies! Kinda strange - one should probably stick to MMO's if they just want to power-level through a game.

So you don't have to actually grind levels? Because i've reached some fairly difficult boss fight and i've read that you need a high battle rank to beat them. Should have tried a bit more before uninstalling, damn

This is the exact opposite of The Witcher. That is a "western" RPG. This is JRPG.

Tread carefully.

Just know that this isn't the best JRPG, so don't judge entire genre from this one game

I guess you wonder about PC ones? Well there aren't any, even FF7 and FF8 that were released on PC are horrible ports.

Anyway, a few of the best must play ones that are from this decade are these:

Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII
Dragon Quest VIII
Dark Cloud 2
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts II
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Rogue Galaxy

Many of the above should be playable with a PS2 emulator.

I'm disappointed with you Glottis. Why just limit to "this decade" and skip two of the best FF titles released (you already said FFX, so <3 for you) -- FFVI and FFVIII? Very Happy Don't forget Wild ARMS Alter Code F, either! Best version of WA ever!

Oh and another <3 for Rogue Galaxy. That game is sublime! All of the above are emu-playable, but with glitches on RG, unfortunately.

FFVI is also known as FFIII in the west, then there is Chrono Trigger and if you dig ARPGs Secret of Mana and Secret of Mana 2 are pretty good. All of these are SNES games and can be played using emulators of course. Smile And they are all made by Square.

Then you also have quite a few good Enix SNES rpgs.

lol.

So it seems that there are no worthy contemporary games.
Will just have to try Remnant then.

EVO, Actraiser, Illusion of Gaia trilogy (Soul Blazer, Terranigma, IoG) <3 <3 <3

I was never much of a fan of Enix, always preferred Squaresoft, but those ^^ games have permanent places in my heart.

Not on the PC, I'm afraid. We have a VERY distinct lack of jRPGs. Check out the Ys titles, they're on the PC - and most of 'em are EngTranslated too, also Grandia II.

The Last Remnant doesn't look as if it's a recent game, anyway. Tell us what you think.

It's using the UE3 and, IMO and in battles at least, it looks great! Overworld is a bit bland, looking like a mod for Unreal 3 -- but still not exactly "ancient" Full graphic settings in-battle kicks the living shit outta my PC Sad

Yea, Enix was always the somewhat smaller kid on the block during those days, so most of the time you read about Square releases in Japan of new games, where the Japanese would queue up around the block to get the new Square RPG on the SNES. But Enix RPG were still good. Never managed to play any of them apart from Breath of Fire. There were just too many Square games. Very Happy

There's a little-known SNES RPG, that has been translated into English too, that I go back to quite often and it's called Live-A-Live.

Ooops... umm, no more off-topic from me Embarassed

Thread necromancy!

Anyway, wanted to ask, does anyone know if there's any other good games with a similar combat-scale as Last Remnant? (i.e., tactical combat with squads of say 20+ characters) It was quite unique in this respect, and I remember I enjoyed it a lot... seems to be an underdeveloped genre though.
