I can't say it looks good. It looks very ... uncanny valley, and not in a transitional state kind of a way. The lighting is really off. They show several combinations of weather and time of day, and not one looks realistic.

Also the animations are still bad, especially the running, it's like they're sliding the ground instead of actually running...

2019 demo is out if anyone interested.
Tried it, played 3 matches and there's only one thing I can say about it: MEH.
Looks like I'll stick with 2018.

PES 2019 Demo up on Steam.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

gonna give it a shot

edit: for pes terms it looks very good, but lacks the support of 4k... and the image quality drastically varies between teams. bummer

input lag still present, but very very low. way better than the last iterations

ai still dumb as fuck, easy to outsmart and once they are behind they go wild which result in you scoring many goals more

the biggest problem (besides the keepers still cant fetch a ball properly, 99% block instead): the game wants you to think everything is possible, but its not. easy to see the patterns, they are going on-rail like fifa in the worst years sometimes

in the end even though its a solid game so far fifa will make the cut, better online services, licensed teams, better presentation (especially with the cl stuff). but pes is always an option for offline sessions (where fifa now offers more variety due to the house rules stuff)

After having played the demo, I've come to the melancholic conclusion that football games simply don't entertain me anymore Okay

The stagnation in terms of gameplay, physics, movements and AI patterns has always been present in the genre (a limited formula where deja-vu is rampant), but nowadays it feels more noticeable than ever and there is nothing that can surprise or properly reward the player. It bugs me the fact that we would have all the tools to (finally) achieve major technical advancements and raise the bar of complexity, but no big developer will ever risk a different/deeper gameplay approach by overhauling the classic straightforward thinking since the target audience would be alienated by less arcade-y approaches. It's a damning and awkward impasse, forever stuck in averageness. Razz

The demo was dreadful. From the same awful animations they had for 10 years to graphics to overall presentation.

I agree to an extent that football games don't entertain as they did in the past, but I do think it is more of us being less excited in general. I remember the jump from Fifa 97 to Fifa 98 to Fifa 99 to Fifa 2000. It was marvelous. Nowadays, I did enjoy the Fifa game on Switch somewhat while I was in the mood for World Cup, and it really wasn't a bad game. Certainly more enjoyable than this PES turd.

I know you don’t play football games for graphics and I also wanted to try fifa on the switch because of the WC patch but the game looks quite bad, even for the Switch... kinda looks like a ps3 version (and I’m being nice).

Oh and i agree being excited with every fifa back then, that is until fifa 2000. Then 2001 I didn’t care. That’s when I eventually leeched winning eleven 5 on PS2.

I was also disappointed in fifa 2000 but every fifa back then had huge differences.

It doesn't look that bad. It certainly looks better than the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, but obviously not as good as the PC one. But I think they made the right choice. NBA 2K used the same engine but at 30Hz, which made it much less enjoyable if even less playable. FIFA is quite playable and enjoyable on the Switch.

You're definitely onto something there Very Happy Crying or Very sad *waves the cane*

 Spoiler:

I'll probably still play Fifa and Pes for some time when they'll be "released" but.. I don't really look forward to them, it's more of a 'whatever' kind of approach. Last year I didn't dislike Fifa 18 on full-manual (mandatory) + custom sliders + Fidel's gameplay mod, it was a bit more akin to my needs, though obviously still far from the ideal.
Football is 80% sweat, physical contacts and mistakes and 20% beautiful highlight reels, I want Pro (D)Evolution Soccer and Fifa Benevento Edition Cool Face

You basically want a miracle Laughing

The magneto+ice skating+tricks system was put in place _just_ to replace the old stiff magneto or the Sensible system, which would be rather laughable applied to fifa-pes today.
The control system itself is too limited to sync within the body movements, UNLESS you'd could come up with something QWOP'ish: some sort of Super Manual Mode.

Impossible to manage, but boy, that would be a hoot Laughing

Depends if this release is pre or post update that addresses the abysmal AI. I had this on PS4 and ended up selling after 6 weeks as I lost interest. The AI would only ever score goals by dribbling down the wing before cutting in to pass to the striker, positioned on the edge of the 6 yard box, who would always get there ahead of the defender before slotting it home. Beyond infuriating.

There was also the issue of the AI literally selling every player in the first transfer window. It would then start selling players recently signed in the second window. Was a broken mess that Konami didn't acknowledge until the pressure on social media began spilling into every post they made.

Apparently the issues have been addressed so I'm eager to give this a go.

its called the fifa syndrome Razz

remastered master league is a nice thing. 10 years ago that would have been nice, but today when you jump into any online game within seconds i just cant stand playing ai only, its not a bit diversified (ok playing online and the game fucks you over isnt too)

I might be interested again when (if) they'll upgrade/change the engine next year* (or the year after that), though as always it would be foolish to expect revolutions in terms of approach and quality. Sports games sadly are like Call of Duty, no one wants to risk altering the low-effort formula since it would alienate the jogabonito fanbase trapped inside the comfort zone.

*unless it's e-Pro Evolution Pachinko

Those animations remind me a lot of '80s and early '90s football style. Looks dated even in those terms. Laughing
