That seems disappointingly reasonable. Not sure about the female protagonists, but even that seems right.
So I would venture a guess, that there is a (smallish) number of work with sensible protagonists, which are then male/female/strong/weak/smart/dumb or whatever the author came up with, whereas the typical retarded ones are mostly guys. But I would have to reflect more on the stuff I watch, but I don't think I'm gonna like what I find.
Sounds like you were expecting me to be disappointingly unreasonable
My theory is simply that i think anime/manga creators have to abide by different sets of rules for male or female protagonists. Just notice what male protagonists do when offered drinks? They always say no because they're underage. Girls often get drunk. Guys always nag on about rules and such. Girls? not so much, because they break them. It's just things you notice when watching a lot of anime. Probably could mention a lot more.
But there are exceptions to the rule though. There are protagonists that are at the opposite side of the spectrum and are just are rude and unlikable. They almost exclusively have bad endings though from what i've seen, or devolve into a nakama loving, goody-two-shoes as the story progresses.
Maybe i've seen a lot of the wrong anime shows out there, but this is my impression of things

We need Made in Abyss Season 2 also!
But I guess nothing granted for that Fuck that, moved to the manga.
Ohh, name was Tanya so i always thought it was a girl. Haven't seen the anime though.
well ... give it a try? Its worth a try.
Spoiler:
Just saw it now. I was instantly hooked and thought it was amazing... Until near the end when "god" started giving out superpowers. But that's not the only thing that annoyed me a bit. I mean, what was the reason the empire was attacking anyway? They kept talking about just wanting peace. Everyone was talking about just wanting peace, yet they were attacking. The lack of a Hitler character sure was obvious.
I wouldn't call her evil. But she is far from an idealist trying to save everyone

I am currently watching Kuromukuro. It's mostly trash. But it's first protagonist is a female and she is of the type 'useless airhead with no skills, chosen by damn luck'. I'm not sure but I feel like this is an often used type for female leads. Most of the time I back out really quickly out of such shows or don't even try them. Think of sailor moon's usagi/bunny. Barely any cognitive function but with a good heart and good intentions...
So I would not be surprised if both male and female leads have pretty ridiculous characters as the most occurring type.
Batman Ninja, the upcoming animated film coming from Warner Bros. Japan and directed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Jumpei Mizusaki, is a simple enough idea to wrap your mind around: Batman and co. are flung back through time to medieval Japan. But the few seconds of footage screened today at New York Comic Con showed that the story writer Kazuki Nakashima (Kill la KillKamen Rider Fourze) and character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai) have crafted is unlike any Batman story we’ve ever seen.
Batman Ninja will be released on DVD and Blu-ray next year.
invest into subs? this bloody video has interlacing issues ffs!
edit:
I dont think they said anything of amazement here.
Here are some snippets I got and should give you an idea:
Narrator in the beginning
"having lost their parents in front of their eyes, they swore revenge"
That speech the MC gave seemed like a premature victory speech.
When the MC rammed that other dude to the wall he said something like "this is our home country!" indicating some loss in moral and possible acceptance of defeat or something.
Last narrator bit: "who will perish, mankind or godzilla?"
So I just finished watching the CGI Gantz: 0 and really enjoyed it. It was the first Gantz I've seen and after looking around, I saw there are a couple of live action movies and a 26 episode season of sorts.
My question is which should I go for to get more story or to kind of pick up where the CGI movie left off? Thanks!

Who cares about gameplay. It's one of the few next-gen looking titles out there so BRING IT ON.

Read the manga. Really... it has 383 chapters, each around 25 pages. They won't animate it all to have a conclusion.

Missed your post for some reason. Yes, there are worthless female leads. But that's mostly shoujo series.
Synopsis
This story is about a 15-year-old girl who is a newbie idol in love with her best friend's brother who is also a popular idol. But she runs into a scary yakuza guy and finds out that her mother was an ex-magical girl, and the yakuza guy was her mascot. Her love interest gets kidnapped by demons that look like burly men with cute squirrel heads. So she contracts the yakuza to become a magical girl, which in this story means she turns into a handsome guy in a magical girl outfit. On top of that, her love interest shows an attraction toward her magical guy form. Her best friend turns out to be in love with her and also becomes a magical cross-dressing guy to save her life.
Thus, their manager, who is a magical girl geek, then decides to turn them into an idol unit.
Wakamatsu Masato lives with his step-sister, Miyuki, whom he does not have blood relationship with. Their father is always working overseas and left the two of them living by themselves in Tokyo. Miyuki is cute, nice, sensitive and very popular among guys around Masato. Masato has a girlfriend at school whose name is Kashima Miyuki, who is pretty and gentle, the ideal dream of every high school boy.
That's right, there are two people called Miyuki!
The last line is just amazing. Am I supposed to be shocked at this conundrum?
While the animation is good, I never understood the hype behind One Punch Man.
Watched the first season back when it came out and it was the same setup every single episode.
New enemy arrives and takes main character lightly, does their strongest attacks, main character is an airhead who takes a whole episode to realize that he is in a fight, then he ends it with one punch.
Rinse and repeat.
