Oh, and for anyone who doesn't realize this: Valve, as a company, is internally a complete disaster. It's completely chaotic and disorganized.

It's a privately owned company ran by a morbidly obese dude in his 50s. The company will not survive his death, which--best case scenario--is within the next 20 years. So enjoy the RUBBLE of your Steam collection, assholes.

If you honestly think anyone will come in and buy up Valve and take over the store when they can just use the scenario as an excuse to push their own shitty services, I have a bridge to sell you.

Seems character level of detail is either broken or just buggy on the higher quality levels.

EDIT: But there's two Q&A branches up now visible via SteamDB so something is happening. Smile

Are we better off using Low for now? It seems that way.

From the looks of things Ultra is better but Low is missing LOD's for the NPC's currently and that is making them look much better at this setting.

Otherwise the game is scaling them down unless you're in a cutscene or right up close and unlike say Witcher 3 or other games doing this the transition is far more noticeable since they reduce detail a lot more here.

Did you visit the clown next to the CP shrine and redeem stuff? People have been saying that fucks your inventory.

Not sure of the fix (if there is any) other than restarting a fresh save. But that's most likely your culprit.

Well, that was a hell of a ride.

90 hours in - I THOUGHT I was being thorough as I had unlocked both secret fighting styles. Finally finish it and it gives me a completion rating of 56%!

Boy, I haven't been that engrossed in a game since the original Dragon Age / Mass Effect, and this one lasted nearly three times as long!

Also, make sure you watch after the credits - it's a real goddamn tearjerker! Crying or Very sad

Keep in mind, all of this praise is coming from someone that normally looks upon Japanese games with disdain and disgust as being goofy and brutal simply for the masochistic sake of it all. As it turns out, when they're able to reign in their silly side, they're able to tell one hell of a story!

Although they've still got a bit of an issue with the whole movie-like pacing of 20 minute cut-scenes and whatnot. That, and the goofy ass idea of having money fly out of enemies as you hit them.

Also some damned good music in here - that Kuze theme was incredible!
 Spoiler:

Eagerly awaiting Yakuza Kiwami - and hoping it lives up to the same caliber gameplay and story wise!

Yeah, Majima stole the show. This was pretty much Majima's game.

The only thing we learn about Kiryu from this game is that he's always been that guy since the day he was born.

Kiwami has smoother combat flowing between styles when in combat, but it's a lesser game, mostly because it's a remake. But there are tons of new content that are mostly 0 references, mostly built around the Majima Everywhere system, but some people don't like it which is a shame.

Majima Everywhere is great IMO, especially if you're coming off from 0.

I recommend playing Kiwami before 0 though mostly because of the Malima retcon not lining up with how he was written in 1.

Also yeah, Yakuza has awesome tunes. I listen to them when working.

My current favorite is default fight music when in Hiroshima from 6.

Too bad it's too short.

Edit:

Oh great, spent way too much time on related YT videos, and ended up on this modded Y5 vid.

Thumbnail is clickbait, nothing like that in the video as far as I can tell but maybe I was distracted.

Much better than that airplane guide thing Kiryu does in karaoke

Also here is the Kiryu air traffic control thing or whatever that's called (yes i know it's that weaboo thing)

The "remake" thing means nothing to me - I don't own a console and thus never played the original Yakuza, so it's all going to be new to me.

Does it have just as many/good minigames? And most importantly, does the catfighting mini-game make a return? Laughing

So is that where you keep running into him as a super powerful mob and he kicks the shit out of you in two hits, like Mr. Shakedown in Yakuza 0? I really hated that sort of mechanic (see Japanese masochistic video-game tendencies Very Happy )

I strongly suggest you go through all the sub-stories, if you haven't done them already. It has 2 secret missions which will unlock once you complete all the sub-stories for each character. Believe me, it's the hardest battle you'll ever face in the game. Very Happy

Majima is easier than Mr. Shakedown mostly because he doesn't do insane shakedown damage.

Cat fighting is back as a bug fighting arcade game.

Pocket Circuit is back as well.

So yeah minigames still there, though I think there are less of them.

Still a great game.

They *kind of* fixed that in Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2 (the games on the new engine). The enemies still have to "spot" you, but the fights are no longer locked in "arenas" or so.

They're releasing HD remasters of 3-5 for the PS4 in Japan, so hopefully they'll release it outside of Japan as well. And on PC.

Zero is a good start though it's also one of the later games developed so it has several additions and enhancements plus the story and vibe is a fair bit different from my understanding though this should then make it into Kiwami and the rest of the remasters as they're released.

No idea what the schedule looks like on PC though, guess it's Zero and Kiwami for now and then Kiwami 2 and maybe Yakuza 6 next year?

This would definitively be one of my picks for the game of the year though, 100% completion so wasn't worth it but I did really like the side stories and most of the things you do end up completing has some nice rewards for taking the time and effort for doing it.

The attention to detail such as during cutscenes but also the way the areas were designed and laid out is exceptional to and there's enough content for around 30 hours or so for the main story and then upwards of 100 - 150 hours give or take for a full completion but some of the content is very luck based or randomized and even weighted in the AI's favor against the player. Smile

EDIT: Well 100% completion wasn't a total bust or anything but eh the story was the main draw and some of the side stories were excellent too but hunting them all down is mostly for dedicated players ha ha, some of the achievements are also missable but you can still see and do everything else the game has to offer and this can be done even after the main story is over with so no missing out on content either.
