Showrunner / main writer: Monica Owusu-Breen (Alias, Fringe, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Whedon will EP and is currently involved with Breen on the script, but it's unclear if he will remain involved and how much once/if the series is picked up, as he's busy with The Nevers.
The new Buffy actress will be black and the series will build on the mythology of the original.
So we might be looking for a sequel instead of a reboot? and the new "Buffy" is simply a new Slayer? The series will continue to be progressive (remember about the original: http://www.afterellen.com/tv/12175-buffy-to-show-first-lesbian-sex-scene-on-broadcast-tv ); "it will be richly diverse, with some aspects of the series, like the flagship, seen as metaphors for issues facing society today."
No network is attached yet but "Producers Fox 21 TV Studios will pitch the Buffy re-do to streaming and cable outlets later this summer in a package bound to ignite a bidding war."
I think it will be picked up because the series still has a lot of fans, and also because it doesn't have to be very costly. So it's not a bad investment. I can see Amazon picking it up.

Slayers can only be female. And the first Slayer, in prehistoric times, was black.

This is what's wrong with PC culture. People ruining series by changing their stories while disregarding the original! Asking to turn a female character male for the sake of "gender equality" or "gender equity", why can't they just create a NEW male character instead of ruining old franchises with their identity politics?
Anyway, reboots of Charmed and Buffy? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. I know nostalgia is a big seller, but this seems like a bad idea.

Actually buffy can be redone every 10 years or so.
New character/new buffy same shit happening throughout.
I hope they won't fuck it up and make it direct buffy.
