I quite regret my purchase that i did at release.. never got around using it much at all really, played maybe 8h in total. I think the most fun with it was showing it to my brother's children and watching their reactions.

Bought for around 900 euro, sold it for 300 euro. rarely you lose this much when selling electronics (well except for super old tech of course).

I will probably try to stay away from supporting Oculus/facebook if i ever buy VR again, i really despise Zuckerberg..

Initially it's quite mind blowing (the first 3-5h), but this effect wears off quickly and its just very cumbersome, irritating and uncomfortable to wear. The most impressive aspect of it is really the controls, the rest is light years from being something i would prefer to a screen or to 3D Vision.

The screens with its "binocular" effect is not great either, you can also see the black middle part the glasses as you're watching the screen/3D, which sucks, even if its often vague and you forget about it after a while. I dont have that at all with 3D Vision glasses and the 3D is actually more impressive too, the 3D in Oculus is very flat in comparison.

Where do you guys get all this bad information ... wow. Rift is absolutely bundled with the touch controllers all u need is extra sensor for room scale. Most of the games on steam are playable on the Rift. This post above me is just talking out of his ass lol.

Without room scale, the sensors are useless and during the highest sales period, it sold with zero sensors. Stop beating about the bush - Oculus split its user base in two and it's a dumb thing to do since devs hate a split user base when the user base is pretty small as is.

That is complete horseshit - they even did a reddit vote on how many people didnt upgrade to at least two sensors and its extremely minimal. This also happened so long ago and oculus has been selling for $400 with two sensors for a good while now. Adding a third sensor is a breeze and boom - room scale - still miles cheaper than Vive or any other competition.

Have you played Lone Echo or Robo Recall for example? Also I heard some people might have different perceptional issues with VR as I dont seem to have mostly any issues you mention here but I did hear such experiences before. 3D and the feeling of realistic spacial assets in the game is the main thing that got me into VR and 2d/3d via monitor is just not on the level even at higher resolutions. Also - what kind of system? with a 1080ti I am able to really crank up supersampling which improves image quality greatly without affecting performance. Point is things also got much better from the original days of VR in terms of how everything runs and feels internally. Wearing an HMD and how it feels and looks will always be a bit goofy no way around that haha

I did not like Robo Recall, i thought it was exceptionally dull. The best game i played in VR was probably Half Life 2 (with previous version of Oculus Rift..)
Doom 3 VR was also decent or even great for a game not made for VR to start with.. But its such a dull fucking game too, its fun for an hour or two. I played something similar to Lone Echo before selling the Oculus, didn't like it either.. cant remember the name.

Also when i play games i want to spend many hours with the game, not 20 minutes and then having to take it all off because you're getting uncomfortable, hot or need to rest etc.. no, its not for me. When its wireless, lighter and covers less of the face (hate having the nose almost covered entirely) and there's no annoying binocular view i will try it again.

Completely understood - there is a level of investment you have to make in order to enjoy VR properly and not everyone is ready to invest in some of the discomforts. I have high hopes in the second and third generation of HMDs ...

if i'm to be honest i'm quite underwhelmed with this vr thing. I really was expecting to be blown away by the whole VR experience but it really didn't happen. It made me smile for the first few minutes but thinking about it, I could just as easily do without vr too at this moment in time.
Okay, so the display is rather low res I thought, I mean i can see all the individual pixels, which was something I wasn't expecting, visually it reminds me somewhat of those really old lcd handheld games from back in the day... anyone old enough to remember these things?

lol, joking aside though, is the rift similar or is the res a lot higher.. I think untill the resolutions get a lot more sharper and defined I could probably live without vr till that time quite easily.

I bought a few games to test out in vr. So far have only tried Eve valkyria warzone, which was so so. Bought End Space, Assetta corsa, and downloaded the google earth vr as that looked interesting Smile. Is there anything else worth checking out?. I didn't realise halflife 2 could be played in vr so i'll deffo try that out. Oh, elite and redout too which is like a wipeout clone, I already had and also rise of tomb raider in my library which can also be played in vr.

yea, my two cents about the comfort of these devices. After taking it off it still feels like I am wearing it. Strange Confused

Im amazed people cant enjoy the feeling of vr, i quite enjoyed everything i played. I would buy it again if it broke.

Arizona Sunshine is amazing, it shows what a game should be in VR

I expect you to die, so much fun.

Beat saber, its an experience. Not a groundbreak but its fun, like an arcade gimmick.

Onwards, and Pavlov, oh boy.

Superhot, subnautica (oh boy, its amazing)

Its not gonna replace normal gameplay but everytime i fire it up im just happy and i enjoy it quite a bit. Specially drifting online in assetto corsa, ohhh god. such a rush.

I hope they add more AAA horror games to Virtual Reality.

Yea, VR is an awesome experience. I think the biggest problem is that it's still cumbersome to use. (and resolution is too bad for some games, Fallout for example, I tried playing it on survival difficulty, but due to the aiming difficulties it was just not possible)

If it was something extremely light, no need to go and setup crap always. (especially if you have issue with space, it's nightmare... I have to move my computer to living room for VR always (I have my gaming laptop there but it's not powerful enough to run all the VR games)).

I find right now, that some games are simply not going to fit within the limitations of VR. Graphics simply cannot be high resolution with intricate detail, but they CAN be designed to still look correct within the VR environment.

For example, while Elite Dangerous does look pretty stunning, because the game of course, predominately designed for monitors, the text and smaller details just look terrible in VR. EVE Valkyrie on the other hand, looks pretty good and clear, because text is larger when required and not used if possible, which makes perfect sense.

Star Trek Bridge Crew looks particularly good in VR, again, because the displays are made for VR, bit bold text and controls, which you don't need to squint at to read.

Of course resolution is an immediate concern, but considering what the best of VR is offering right now, limited by todays technology - which lets face it, isn't all that bad - is nothing short of stunning.

The iPhone was, lets face it, utterly crap when it was first launched, but somehow became one of the most tehnologically advanced smartphones we have (ugh, I feel naseous now), because it was improved upon over time. The current VR sets are that starting point, and as all great tech has to start from somewhere, it's not going to be very long before we get VR that most people will nod and smile at.

Thanks for the game suggestions!. I'll see if I can try some of them. Actually what I have enoyed the most in VR is using google Earth. I really like using the street view and it's the closest thing to going abroad and visiting some place without actually moving from your seat Very Happy

Okay I tried the forest. It's the first vr game thats impressed me and shown me the capability of vr gaming. In other words the first game that took immersion to another level for me. The controls were all fucked up though (i'll have to read the instructions or calibrate something no doubt) and I couldn't navigate or manouvere my avatar properly without him teleporting randomly and being unable to actually turn around.. but for the short length of time I tried it I was well impressed. Will deffo go back to it soon. The space I have to use VR is so damn limited however, the pc is basically in a tiny box room and i hit the controllers on the desk a few times while playing this. I'll have to sort it out as i'm worried i'm accidentally gonna put the controller through my monitor screen at some point.

Oh yes, because the mobile platform has all the power you need for convincing VR experiences (and is cheaper to make, has less requirements and is easier to code...')

Pimax is going to steal the PC VR show I think...

Invested in Beat Saber. Yeah, it's great fun, and although importing custom songs is not as straightforward as in Audiosurf, once you get things in order it will give an in-game browser for new songs. Very handy, but the selection is not nearly as great as I hoped.

After a few years of my DK2 gathering dust on the shelf, I decided to get into VR again and ordered a Samsung Odyssey+ from US, since its unavailable in EU.

It is kinda affordable compared to the other top tier headsets. I pay $480, shipment, taxes etc. all included, from Amazon.com.

Supposedly its screen is really good. Though controllers arent. But I want to see if I can watch movies in it.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

-Removed full body tracking and replaced it with...in headset cams that cant track behind you. Already reports stating FPS games are not working when touchpads are directly in front of the 'new' in headset sensors. I'll keep my three ceiling mounted sensors...
-Removed built in headset which was outstanding it..now go by your own headset and wear two straps
-Touch contollers are now upside down and feel off balanced. Oculus already has finger tracking (thumb+index). If you feel paying $600 extra for the Knuckles to get those extra three digits tracked,, I will continue to laugh
