On a different note. The developers have launched a Kickstarter campaign in which they ask PC gamers for money to finance their consolized strategy game, lovely!

Really like those art pictures. I do hope those giant robots have something to do with the game, and not just a cutscene thing. Well, i guess there might be missions where you need to defeat one or something, but it would be cool to controll one as well Very Happy
I guess you haven't watched the video posted a couple posts above yours Smile

It literally shows the robots being used...

and it looks like dawn of war 3 in an 1920 alternate setting (think CoH mixed with DoW3).

Anyway, I think I rather buy the board game Smile

I have, but i was talking about the giant robot, not the relatively small ones.

Really not a fan of the implications of the UI design, it's clearly not designed to work with large armies, but only for a handful of squads, just like DoW 2.

Dem controller strategy games. Simplistic and rudimentary in all aspects from that video

Which features are you missing?

I can only think of a Formation-feature. But that might be possible by holding and turning the movement button in the desired direction.

It all seems very rudimentary at this point. The encounters are made up of a handful of units in the video. The squad composition is a must because of the controller - its the only valid option when you dont have an input that can pin point and quickly select something. The units seem to have a single ability - to throw grenades. Again to make it manageable for controllers. The economy is probably gonna be simple and automated in such a way that it might as well not even be there. Its a damn shame consoles are involved, because every choice in the gamemaking process on this game is going to be "is it feasible on a controller? Does it play good on a controller?"

They just launched the kickstarter and one of the guys involved said the goal is to make a "calm" RTS. That goal exists because thats the only way to make it playable on controllers. Its gonna be a baby RTS. It cant be anything else once they limited themselves with a controller

Really?
If true, then despite the very interesting story this game has, it might end up like DOW3 did. Sad

i dont know i just dont see it ... especially managing game like this on controller you say its suppoedly designed for... feels to me basically CoH1 clone with interesting setting based on tabletop (aka squads) .... there is no need for SupCom level number of units

What dont you see? Its a strategy game thats being developed and that needs to be playable on xbox one and playstation 4. Shit dont just work by itself on a tool that has two sticks that you fiddle with your thumbs and ten buttons. Nothing just works. Not 3rd person games, not first person ones. And most definitely not strategy games. They all need specialy adapted gamedesign and gameplay in order to work. And nothing needs this more severe than an RTS.

I mean i already pointed a few aspects the other page. They use squads not because they particularly want to, but because they NEED to. You cant manage large armies or individual units with a stick. You just cant do it. You cant select those five assault rifle units out of 50 melle units with a stick. You cant have them use countless abilities in the heat of battle because you couldnt react fast enough with a pad in real time. So they only have grenades. You dont handle large armies in this game not because thats the game they want to make, but because thats the game they CAN make.

One of the devs said its gonna be a calm rts, with a heavy focus on units. So, small scale everything. Fan feedback said they need to have base building so they're gonna maybe do that fixed maping like Halo Wars did, where you have that fixed grid, you just click and a structure apears. This means heavily scripted missions without much strategic depth, they're gonna handle what units and how many and where you're base is gonna be by design.

All in all, even if you cant see it, if a game, any game, from any genre, is announced as multiplatform - then it's always gonna be gimped by the limits of a controller. Its always gonna be a game that needs to function on two sticks and a few buttons

oh i get it now, basically just its releassing on consoles => its automatically damned to oblivion

... i guess i just dont care , i've loved so many of games whose control design was influenced by consoles and i always loved the tactics part of RTS over the clicks per minute side of it and the gameplay in KS trailer above was pretty fine for me

Also from KS page:
Quote:
Both versions of the game will get a totally independent control scheme and user interface. So no decision made on the console side has an influence on the Windows controls or UI.
We already did tests regarding controller inputs and we think we found a solution that’s better than anything out there. This control-scheme works just fine with the gameplay we've designed for PC.
And even if we'd have to change something for consoles, we'd not be looking for the smallest common denominator. Instead we would adjust gameplay for consoles without changing it for Windows.

R*tard consoles sell better, regrettably. Sad Just gawd damn wish they'd BUILD IT FIRST on PC then downgrade it on consoles like some devs do. If everyone did that firs then .

Saw the gameplay. It looks like a shittier Company of Heroes with robots. And what year was CoH released? 2006? If I wanted to play a shittier CoH I'll play CoH2. Laughing

Hopefully it will exceed my expectations, but currently it looks just like another mediocre rts. Which is a shame because I really like the concept they are going with.

The devs are evasive on their Facebook page and seem unwilling to answer that particular question. As only GOG has already a game page up, let's see how long that will stay up.
