Maybe this should have been in the games section but i just want to vent Smile

Im generally a very positive person, great job, own place blah blah blah but my main hobby was always gaming aince I was about 10 and saw some games being played at my friends brothers old Atari and then PC. Anyway, im 34 now and most games just bore me after a very short while. There are few exceptions, pubg with friends is good, Into the breach was a nice surprise but finished in 2 or ao hrs. I miss being able to play almos ALL the games that came out, devs put love and passion into making it, nowadays it just seems mostly about profit (which makes sense i guess). Id love to pick up a SP game every night again and enjoy it.

I have other hobbies, cars, gym, airsoft .. But gaming was always something i sid the most and now im pissed it doesnt excite me as much.

Anyway, fuck new games and greedy publishers, i will send food to poor people, also fuck migrants Neutral

Seems like a common problem among your generation that games bored you. I suggest you challenge yourself into finding unique traits of the game, epic loot or beat hard monsters on difficult levels, if the game has a level system pick on monsters with higher level than you while not having the best items, find people to enjoy the games with, try "Dying Light" in co-op...
Do something that excites you in games, explore the map in detail or whatever, you are the master of the world there.

You have better things to do than waste much time on games, simple as that. If I had the little gaming time I had now when I was younger, I wouldn't have bothered finishing at least half of the games I did. This leads to the problem that you only play the best games, since you have little time, so you compare everything to the best games. I can't even believe now how many shitty and buggy games I have played back in dem olden days, games that ran like shit and were average. Now that I am older and more demanding (again due to restriction in time), I just don't play average anymore. People seem to forget there was enough shit in the old days on PC too.
You also get saturated since all game genres share the same core mechanics, it'll obviously be more exciting when you're new to gaming.

I've discussed this with friends who have a similar feeling. I very often hear "I used to love games but I grew up and they're no longer fun to me now" and nearly always, they're just exposed to mainstream crap which is so run-of-the-mill I can see why people grew tired of them.

The main reason for gaming fatigue, is genre fatigue. The reason you enjoy PUBG, is because it's different. Deathmatch used to be incredibly refreshing and new back in 1994 and it blew consoles away. In fact, the FPS genre (and other genres involving 3D) pretty much killed interest in 2D platform games. It's all about perception.

In the end, the more generic games hold little value once you get past the basic fun of a genre. There's tons of modern by-the-numbers FPS which are tedious yet when I play the 20 year old Duke Nukem 3D, I still have more fun. They used to put effort and thought into the games whereas now they're more about making things as "real" as possible, fuck fun.

So basically, look outside of mainstream games. Look at the better indie games. Go for retro games, hidden gems. There's plenty. Games such as Star Control 2 can still hook new gamers who never heard of it with its immense size and scope.

You're not alone bro. Might be for different kinds of reasons, but you are definitely not.

I just strongly disagree with Mister_S there... I don't think it's "you" at all.

One thing I'm currently watching with awe is this "inclusivity" trend among all these hoardes of SJW devs everywhere which has the side-effect of ironically segregation. At least for me personally. Games that are tailored to fit all don't fit me. Because they do everything but nothing right/good.

Witcher 3 was the best game I played like... in forever. You just should read a bit about the games before buying them I guess? Papers please was such an inspiring game. Made me think more about gaming in the last years than any other title. I think we live in a great time to play games. If you are bored so much, fire up you emulator and re-play the old ones Razz And before I forget: Fuck bigots.

I thought so too, but then games like Zelda come and prove me wrong.
When you've spent thousands if not tens of thousands of hours playing game it's only natural you get bored. Especially that the "gameplay" part is getting so watered down these days.

I still get a hard on for any rockstar game for example, because I know these guys know how to do a proper GAME not a QTE/walking fest.

I plan on waiting for more games like that and cherish those moments, making them special. RDR2/GTA V can't come soon enough

Hahaha, people say that to me Very Happy
My missus is 26 so she is willing to postpone such things ... im not in rush, my younger brother has 2 kids and I love them but I dont want to look after them all day erry day.

I admit there are some games I really like from time to time, Witcher 3 is excellent I agree, I occasionally sit down to play it for couple hours but then dont start it up for weeks. I did love Into the breach and finished it 3 times so I guess there are exceptions...

The degradation of the hobby I feel is some what true. Its just so mainstream now I dont feel its that special anymore. Also with money now and internet, I can get whatever I want, when I was 15 I had a dial up or very slow broad band and has to wait 2 days to DL something or go to a local pirate go to burn CDs. Good times, it felt special then, to play almost any game Smile

Just remember:
It's okay to not have children. Especially if you aren't going to put in the proper time and effort.

Too many people just spawn arseholes these days. Razz

And of course, Morphineus is fairsighted and as always sweet talking:
If you aren't ready to invest a big amount of personal and financial resources and time first of all, you must not produce offspring.

And I believe that he will agree, maybe because he is really wise and he has a lot of knowledge or more likely from his personal experience, in that:

If you want to do children, it's wise to do them not mush after your 35. It's proved scientifically that men that are over 35 have great chances to produce somewhat defective offspring with developmental and learning disabilities. Maybe today is more important to you to finish Witcher 3 but soon, maybe, you will wake up and see thinks differently.

Ha! Now I know why my addiction hasn't diminished despite all the problems with modern gaming

All kidding aside, I believe it is indeed a mix of several factors that influence how you differently perceive your hobby now compared to years ago. Priorities in life can shift all of a sudden, which means more problems to face, more responsibilities and thus less free time available, directly affecting the gaming sessions. Then the tastes themselves can change as well (usually one tends to progressively become less forgiving and more difficult to entertain, the grumpy cat disease Razz) and last but absolutely not the least, there's the overall quality of the games themselves that (in general) follows a descending parabola in terms of innovation, specific focus and actual contents (shifting towards the "game as a service" shite, forced online elements, the rancid Early Access forever and so on - basically whatever feeds greediness).

Gaming these days is mostly about compromises, if you're willing to accept them, then you're good to go as there are still great gems every now and then ready to be enjoyed, otherwise..it's harder. As someone who's always been a PC gamer since the early 90s, I often find myself wrestling with things that genuinely annoy me, be it the lack of challenge, the fact that all the big budget titles are designed to be played with a gamepad, the excessive streamlining and hand-holding, abysmal invasive interfaces, you name it (and this is without mentioning the nastiness of the publishers themselves!).

Thankfully though I can sometimes manage to find ways to overcome the AAAnnoyances by adjusting my habits (sticking to made-up rules to preserve a bit of challenge/ignoring overpowered abilities/turning off all the visual aids or disabling them through mods etc.); there are games that are obviously beyond redemption but in general that's something that helps the immersion a lot and can salvage the fun factor for me. Indie games do help as well, it's an oversaturated market populated by a ton of garbage but eventually some great stuff pops up and then it's happy time.

TL;DR
Playing games in our 30s and having fun with them is most definitely possible, but more efforts and compromises are required. We must embrace the spirit of the patient (awesome-button-powered) bear men
