I would have liked them to go to Vietnam first.

It's a very interesting theatre plus it's the start of modern warfare in terms of weaponry, but kind of in between.

I guess they want to capitalise on the upcoming WW2 surge in games we're seeing now with COD, Post Scriptum, Battalion 1944, Day of Infamy.

while i loved BF:V i still think WW2 is the perfect theatre for a BF game.

- symmetric warfare facilitates balancing
- conventional weapons/vehicles which are modern enough to be "fun" to use but not OP like guided ammunition et al
- distinct roles/classes all of them actually being useful to the match in their own way
- iconic , vast battlefields suit vehicular combat better than urban guerilla warfare

i think this will be their last old settings that started as an experiment, if cod this year is in the future it will be interesting to see what are the sales between the two, if people are bored of ww2 and want future settings again.

i dont think vietnam is enough to make a full game out of it

Battlefield V battle royale prototype in the works at DICE
Quote:
EA’s DICE studio is testing a battle royale mode for Battlefield V that features similar gameplay to megahits like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, according to someone with knowledge of the studio who asked to remain anonymous. In those last player-standing shooters, 100 players drop onto a map and fight until only one person or team is left standing, and that game type has taken over the industry.

And DICE is trying to see if it can get in on the action.

DICE is preparing Battlefield V, which I reported on in March, for launch later this year, but that isn’t stopping the studio from putting together a prototype that could compete with PUBG and Fortnite. Existing battle royale shooters have tens of millions of players, and Fortnite has even reached the nexus where gaming meets wider pop-culture icons like the rapper Drake, who is a huge fan of Epic Games free-to-play battler. So it didn’t surprise too many people when Call of Duty news site CharlieIntel reported that Activision has support studio Raven working on a battle royale for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which debuts in October. And again, it shouldn’t shock you to hear that DICE is doing the same thing for Battlefield V.

I asked EA for a comment, and the publisher declined.

So the battle royale gold rush is on, and DICE is investigating how a massive, last player-standing mode would work with its current mechanics. But don’t expect to drop onto an island with 99 other players when Battlefield V launches this fall. The studio has not yet approved its battle royale for release, and it is still in the prototype phase. If DICE does decide that it’s happy with what it has, it won’t have it ready in time for the initial release.

If the mode does get the green light, Battlefield: Battle Royale could end up as a new part of Battlefield V as a free update. EA has provided a huge amount of support for its shooters in the form of regular expansions and downloadable content, and that is where a last-player-standing shooter makes the most sense. Anything is possible, though. EA could cancel the prototype, it could hold it off for the launch of the next Battlefield or a Star Wars: Battlefront sequel, or it could spin it out into its own game.

Battle royale is seismic shift for the shooter space, and DICE doesn’t want to ignore it. If it’s possible that the genre is not settled in terms of a dominant game, then a lot of money is up for grabs. At the same time, the odds are against any game unseating Fortnite. EA will have to tread carefully here if it decides to put significant resources into chasing Fortnite and PUBG. It has done this before with similar genres. Its Star Wars: The Old Republic massively multiplayer online role-playing game is doing well now as a free-to-play alternative to World of Warcraft, but it didn’t start that way. And the publisher ended up canceling its multiplayer online battle arena Dawngate because it knew it couldn’t compete with League of Legends and DOTA 2. Maybe we’ll get to see if it learned any lessons from that past.

Still, only 1 of Dice's games had loot boxes, that were "p2w"-ish. Well, they were, except the outroar was so immense, they had to shut the pay part off right away lol.

I am more concerned about that battle royale bullshit.

Am I the only one who hates them with a passion? pubg, fortnite... they can all go to hell lol.

I don't personally enjoy battle royale games. I think they should make one, since I think their engine + destruction engine is well-suited for the genre, but I personally won't play it.

What I would LIKE to see:
- Battlefield "5" releases as expected, with no Battle Royale mode, no season pass (as previously announced, similar to Battlefront 2).
- Battlefield 5 uses the same loot crate system as Battlefield 1.
- Months later, Battlefield Royale is released as a stand-alone and F2P game, similar to Fortnite (Royale vs PvE).
- Battlefield Royale goes all-in with loot crates and cosmetics since it's F2P, make big bucks.
- Battlefield 5 and Royale both use the exact same engines and exact same assets. Just flat out the same resources. Anything developed for 5 is used for Royale (new guns, new map assets, new vehicles). Anything developed for Royale is used for 5.
- Both games end up funding each others in a certain way, but remain separate games.

What I'm worried we'll most likely see:
- Battlefield "5" releases as expected, with no Battle Royale mode, no season pass (as previously announced, similar to Battlefront 2).
- The loot crate system is some similar shit to Battlefront 2.
- Battle Royale is released as a content update to BF5.
- Due to the success of the Royale mode, developers stop caring about the main BF5 experience and just switch entirely to updating Royale.

Exactly. They've been watering down the franchise ever since they decided to waste time and resources on single player campaigns for it so they could justify being able to sell it to the console tards. This Battleroyale shit is going to be the final nail in the coffin for the series.

I've been with the series since BF 1942, probably have at least 6,000+ hours logged between all of them. This shit STINKS. Sad

If the developers played the situation correctly, they could actually use this opportunity to redirect BF5 toward older mechanics (such as no health/vehicle armor regen) while making Battlefield Royale casual-friendly. It would be a great way to have two separate experiences for different audiences. But I doubt they'll go for that.

You know as well as I do that's not going to happen. Hell, look how lazy DICE was with regards to "hardcore" mode in the last few iterations. They don't bother balancing the weapons or vehicles specifically for it - they just strip out the HUD and call it a day.

Interesting... could it be linked to this:

https://transom.org/2015/weve-never-been-the-same-a-war-story/

'All wars are the same, it is said, only the scenery changes. And the repercussions are pretty much the same too.

Over the last five years, Adam Piore has gathered the stories of the surviving members of Delta Company, a Vietnam-era paratrooper unit'

One can hope I guess...

Can you blame DICE? I'm fairly certain they do NOT want to churn out annual BF-nonsense but their owners (the destroyers of innovation and talent; EA) won't have anything BUT BF-nonsense. I sure as hell wouldn't feel happy waking up to tweak the AI for the next BF after 16 years of doing it.
