Crytek Announces New Leadership Appointment
Cevat Yerli, Crytek Founder and former CEO and President, to continue to serve as Strategic Shareholder.
| Quote: | Frankfurt-based independent game developer, publisher, and technology developer Crytek is proud to announce the appointment of Avni Yerli and Faruk Yerli as joint CEOs.
The change in leadership follows the successful launch of the company’s much-anticipated bounty hunting game, Hunt: Showdown, last week. The company will continue to focus on enhancing its industry-leading proprietary development platform CRYENGINE, as well as ongoing development and publishing for Hunt: Showdown in the Frankfurt studio and Warface in the Kiev studio. Crytek’s Istanbul office will continue to be responsible for operating Warface in Turkey.
An investment made in autumn 2017 has fortified Crytek and added the necessary capital for future growth.
Former CEO and President Cevat Yerli said: “With the company in a strong position, now is the ideal time to recognize the existing leadership’s excellent achievements over these past two years and formally transition executive leadership to Avni and Faruk. I have been honored to serve as CEO of the company I founded with my brothers almost 20 years ago and have seen the team accomplish breakthrough things in that time. I look forward to continue helping Crytek as a major shareholder, and I am very excited to see what tomorrow brings. I have every confidence that the company will continue to shine under the guidance of Avni, Faruk, and the rest of the leadership team.” |

Anyone who has read ex-workers things knows all three brothers are retarded assholes who have run the company to the ground, giving themselves crazy bonuses wasting company money while workers don't get paid wages. One of them has a company Lamborghini.

Sounds like the opposite of the guy behind Kingdoms of Amalur in a way, he wasn't the best with finances either though but the expenses came from treating the employees to all sorts of bonuses and perks although on a level far above what other companies had done and beyond what could be supported from their income of having one game in development and a MMO in the planning and early design stages.
Though I can't say I'm surprised and I guess that's why talent such as Tiago Souza left the company for other venues.
(No idea how things are going with the engine development, Amazon is probably slowly building up their branch of it as Lumberyard and then Cry-Engine struggles on with a few games still having a license for it.)
EDIT: I guess the upcoming co-op game might see some funds coming in if they can keep it alive enough through early access and then for a few months to a year after that unless other games kills it player base entirely.
("AAA" projects like Crysis or Ryse didn't quite work out and neither did VR for them far as I know, visuals were there but gameplay was a constant problem with Ryse devolving into QTE's and you can't even fail them plus narrow linear maps and overall a pretty short experience.)

Establishing in the high-cost cities and such isn't the best either or in Crytek's case they expanded to multiple studios within a short period of time, in either case though now you've got a few years of outgoing payments and costs while the project is in development and if it doesn't work out he studio is kinda screwed as are the people working there.
(And in multiple parts of the world to boot.)
EDIT: Early access beta is a successful launch now? Setting the bar are we? Well for the staff who worked on it's sake hopefully it works out but it's a tough market to try and muscle in on just like that and a stream of new content is going to be needed or stuff like user created content ala what Valve did.

You can read Glassdoor and Reddit posts by ex employees. Sounds like, even during its heyday, Crytek was a shit place to work in. Good for resume building, but shit.

Ah right Glassdoor has some good insights for some of these studios, Team Bondi for LA Noire had a lot of stuff posted about them via anonymity for one so I can imagine Crytek having a lot of details due to their situation though I had no idea it had gone on for that long.
Even from anonymity most devs seem to avoid interviews and revealing information for fear of it affecting their careers unfortunately, probably a lot of stuff that gets swept away or hidden that would be good to get out.
(Long term NDA's also means details on cancelled or troubled projects are sparse at best.)

I'm not sure NDA covers employer-employee relationships and personal opinion of how the business is run. At least not legally.
