What a stupid business model with the new UT, though sadly probably the only one that allowed them to work on it at all
big wigs prolly saw no potential in UT - it ain't a moba or a PUBG style game so why bother
so they had to sell it with a cost effective idea
too bad that idea meant except for some die hard fans nobody would ever care
i ever only played it a minute here or there to see the progress, of which there was so little it makes DayZ look good.

https://mspoweruser.com/unreal-tournament-4-is-no-longer-in-development-resources-moved-to-fortnite-and-new-steam-competitor/
| Quote: | Back in September, the community manager for Epic Games’ “Unreal Tournament” announced that the game was on hold with the team on that game moved over to work “super hard on ‘Fortnite.'” It seems little has changed since then, with Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney telling Variety that the game remains on hold.
Sweeney was discussing Tuesday’s announcement of the Epic Games Store, when he was asked what impact development of the store and the continued growth and support of “Fortnite” is having on older projects, like “Unreal Tournament.”
“‘Unreal Tournament’ remains available in the store but isn’t actively developed,” he told Variety. “We’ve recently worked with GOG on making classic Epic Games titles available and we’re planning to bring more of them to the store in their original glory.”
“Unreal Tournament” is the ninth installment in a first-person shooter franchise created by Epic Games and Digital Extremes in 1999. This latest installment was announced in 2014 as a sort of opensource development version of the game. But as “Fortnite’s” popularity increased with the release of its free Battle Royale mode, resources were pulled from other parts of the studio to focus on “Fortnite.”
While the game isn’t officially dead, the “Unreal Tournament” hasn’t received an official update since the summer of 2017. |
RIP

See this is why gaming is getting worse and worse: even IF a developer has enough money to make a sequel people want, they won't if they can focus on a money printing game even if it pisses in the face of their original fans. Look at Valve. Look at Blizzard. None give a fuck about their games unless it makes them lots of cash. Valve is swimming in money but do they use it for their fanbase? Fuck no.

it would be a huge flop anyway.
im a huge ut 2004 fan and i just wanted a remake of this in terms of gameplay and movement.
on the other hand many others wanted a remake of ut 99.
so they just couldn't decide what to do. it was a mess, for ut99 players and for ut2004 players.
either way, it would have been a flop, because one of those groups wouldn't buy it with the wrong movement and gameplay (ut99 movement just sucks for me) and younger people won't even buy it anway because they don't know ut at all.
they need to do two games. one for the ut99 fanboys and one for the ut2004 fanboys otherwise this franchise is dead.
