Play it motherfucker, it is truly one of the best pc games of last year.
And yes, with all the improvements on the formula, it is indeed even better than the Commandos games.
First i need to finish Ass Effect, then Tales of Berseria (which i already started playing before MEA for several hours). And after those two i wanted to play Nier.

I just installed the four Commandos games (as in, C1, C1 expansion, C2 & C3) on my retro WinXP PC and they're still a blast to play. Desperados was great as well but something about the WW2 setting is just more fun.

Shame it runs terribly even with fixes on modern systems since DirectShow support got dropped. Man, so many old games I'd love to replay - frankly, it's amazing how these old games still feel so solid when modern games give me such a strong "been there, done that, yawn" feeling.

Yeah, I remember playing the GOG version a while back, there were countless of technical issues (slowdowns, crashes) which made the game nearly unplayable (same for the Steam version).
Well damn, usually I'm not too keen on reboots but if there's anyone who can pull this off, it's these guys. Shadow Tactics ended up being a true gem and one of the very best modern games out there, starting with the right foot and getting increasingly better as it progressed, culminating with the amazing and challenging final missions.
we are very happy to finally release our latest Shadow Tactics patch with a significant improvement of the loading times as well as some other fixes for the game.
But before pushing the patch out, we would kindly ask you for your help. The patch will be available through an open beta branch, where you will be able to test it and give us your feedback directly here on Steam, so we can be sure of the quality before pushing it out full public.
The total patch size is approximately 2 GB.
Thank you so much for all the love and support,
The Mimimis
/// Changelog Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun v2.2
Patch Version 2.2.2 includes the following changes:
Major performance improvements
Reduced saving and loading times
Reduced mission loading times
Minor bugfixes
Tested it with an old save and the same mission with the beta patch.
Before:
loading the save for the first time : ~36 seconds
loading a quicksave: ~6 seconds
With the beta patch it takes ~7 seconds and quicksaves are loaded nearly instantly. Good job I guess.
Late on the ball, pretty good game. plays great with a controller, no more click and wait.. Never thought that was immersive in these games, i really only like that for games where you control several units.. when it's 1 character i want to feel connected to it, like i'm the character.
it feels a bit overcrowded and perhaps they've been overthinking(!) the enemy placement a bit much, it makes the game very slow (perhaps i'm old and slow..), like every encounter matters. when i think back on Commandos it was a mix of rather brain dead fun and thinking..
it's also irritating that the background voices repeats so often "hold the gate!" is not so fun after the 200th time.
overall i really like it, they have taken great care with the pacing when it comes to introducing the new characters.
Nice, more Mimimi tacticoolness is always good in my book. I'm guessing this is a mini-project that precedes the main future one which should be self-published (and still real time-tactics-based, according to their official site)

So they are working on Shadow Tactics 2?
Plenty similiar games were released since the 1st one, like Desperados, but none of them came close to Shadow Tactics imo, which is my fav Commandos-style game so far.

Most likely not sadly, they specifically say it's a brand new IP

Today, we are announcing that Codename Süßkartoffel is a brand-new, original IP!
Our third real-time tactics game will feature a fresh setting, completely new characters and an original story – all served in a delicious Mimimi real-time tactics coating that we are working on refining even further.
It does mean that, on one hand, we are not working on Shadow Tactics 2. Nor are we working on a Commandos or another Desperados game. On the other hand, it signifies that with the decision to create a new IP we are able to create a whole new world, with a new setting, story and characters that all follow our own creative design choices.
