I'd rather play an old-school shooter that looks like the QuakeSpasm source port for Quake 1 or a game like the original Painkiller. Not this thing with its hideous colors and inconsistent graphical fidelity. Especially the effects are garbage and so look the environments, at least the ones I see in the trailers.
EDIT: Now that I've bought it, I like it

What does it matter how it looks like. For a few years we've had console shooters like Doom or Titanfall with a bit faster than normal speed and ultra magnetised everything masquerading as "so fast" and "the return of skill based movement" nonsense. Then on the other end of the spectrum we've had indie shit were everything is procedural generated and roguelike, also selling themselves as "classic fps".
This on the other hand is probably the first actually good classic fps. The movement is fantastic and like 5 times faster than nuDoom. The levels are hand made in the 90's style. The enemies and battles are handcrafted each and every one.
What is this neogaf level foolishness im reading here where verdict is being passed on this game based on the graphics of a minute long trailer
@Breezer_
Yea, i'm all for classic shooter gameplay. Also graphics don't need to be the best, as long as they have a nice style to them.
But this here looks even worse than how i remember Quake 2 or even Quake 1 looking.
I understand they are going for a retro style, but then you can still put some effort into the models. And not make them look like 1 upscaled polygon each per body, head and limbs.

The game can be entertaining in its own mindlessly twitchy way, but from my time spent with the isoepisode 1 (back when it was released) the level design, enemies and the pew-y aftertaste in general all felt too much on the flabby side.
It's not even about the Fellowkids(tm) "retro" visual art (although I'm not a fan of it, either), it's just that the layouts in this game are quite simplistic and there's nothing that particularly stands out, so to speak. The original 90s shooters simply offered - and still offer - a superior experience overall both when it comes to gunplay and maps' complexity (along with the many great custom ones), whereas this one suffers from a serious case of knock-off effect
@ixigia
That doesn't sound too good. But seems to indeed reflect my view on this by watching the videos.
It's kind of strange that when back then we had so many classic shooters available.
And when nowadays companies try to do something retro, it often fails.
Even though these type of games have rather simplistic gameplay, i guess todays game devs are missing some of that special talent they had back then.

Yesterday I bought this and played it a bit, I like it, if you like Doom style straferunning battles with Quake-like movement, then it's cool. It runs smoothly and I adjusted the options to have limited palette and 2x pixel doubling so now it looks nice and gritty
Atmosphere reminds me of Blood but without the awesome voice acting of Caleb and the enemies. It is still sinister.
The gunplay is better than Quake, I really hate Quake's guns and enemies. The devs are super awesome and funny, too! The next thing I want to buy is Ion Maiden but I'm running out of the money I won in the Nfohump Christmas lottery
The shooting mechanics are OK, but the level design is subpar.
I have only played a couple of maps but I have heard that Episode 2 has improved level design and from some screenshots of Ep 3 I hope that it's even better. Then they have plans for Steam Workshop support and releasing an SDK. Also, they plan to put out some extra content post-release.
Does the scene release named episode 3 is full release or it's just the episode 3 because fuck me it ain't the 90's.
