I see that you can actually revert back to the original graphics and the remastered visuals are indeed quite a bit more pleasant to the eye although still a tad pixelated and blurry.

Many thanks, saving works now. Thankfully the first part in the city isn't that long Laughing

thats strange, you both using standard user accounts or limited the access to the users account settings? you could circumvent the run as admin stuff if you modify the codex.ini and move the save dir towards the game directory (unless thats c:\program files\)

Nope, full access, but 8.1 is a pain since it still doesn't run everything as admin automatically. No problem i just had to tick the run as admin box in properties and everything is fine.

8.1 here too, everything working fine. and its good that it doesnt run everything as admin.

but just found out what your problem is, the codex loader isnt working properly (dont know if only this release or every other too). the gamesaves arent stored in the appdata/roaming/steam/codex directory (theres only some achievement stuff) but instead in the gamedirectory itself. if its installed to "c:\program files (x86)" it cant save/create the savegames inside the gamedirectory cause the process has no rights to do so in this dir -> hence the need to start explicit as admin. two solutions for this problem, first one the one you did. but that way you have to click ok everytime on the uac prompt (wouldnt recommend to disable that).second one is more stylish Wink just rightclick on the game directory ->properties ->security ->add your user account and set it to full access

+1 Razz

finished it today, still awesome this gem. buuuuuuuut the new controls arent flawless, had a few sequences were it was needed to use the old controls to get in the right direction and sometimes manny just ran against objects and hung. but thats not a biggy. had some strange framedrops slowdowns though, only in certain areals. really strange, can remember too: i.e. second year when you go into the high rollers lounge when glottis is upstairs and you go the lawyer, animations and cursor fucked up and slow. or in year three (3?) when you're standing infront of the garage where the car is wired. and a few more, just remembered the two

So, does the praise for this game come from the amazing story? I'm early on, so I can't comment on the story yet, characters seem nice and very good dialogues so far but the gameplay... so far feels like one of those "just try everything until something works, even if it doesn't make sense" kind of adventure games Sad

Story, characters and the general film noir atmosphere Smile
For me, while I enjoyed the first part, it wasn't until the start of act (year) 2 that I was completely drawn in. The transition from Manny to this suave guy nailed it for me Very Happy It's really one of the best characters I've ever played in a game.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Yep, the fact that I still haven't ended the current session is proof of that, I'm really enjoying the dialogues and the story just started slowly unfolding Smile The last couple of puzzles were already much better as well (still not Broken Sword quality, of course). Maybe it was just the intro part which wasn't as good.

I'd say that puzzles in general are not the best part of the game (although they can be brilliant at times), mostly because like you said, sometimes they don't follow any logic but require trial and error instead. You just have to..improvise, so to speak.

Il_Padrino put it nicely. What makes this game unforgettable is the atmosphere, design, quality of dialogues and characterization (not to mention the really good music).
Even if some puzzles may not be excellent (I like all of them, but I'm biased), the whole package is so immersive that you will feel "sad" when the adventure is over. Razz

+1, but I think the best thing in the game is the story, since I can feel that replaying this game (again since I finished it 4 years ago) isn't as good as my 1st playthrough. And when you know the story and the environnement (and remember some puzzles), it's just not as fun.

Still it's one of my favorite game ever, and games that i wanna play more than once are rare... really rare.

And yeah some puzzles are too silly and not logical at all.
I remember when I was a kid that this puzzle with the elevator during year 2 made me stop playing the game and never got to finish it until 4 years ago Smile

Not the slightest bit of guilt for taking advantage of walkthroughs in games like these. Well, very sparingly or none at all in games i know have really down to earth puzzles. But like this one, mehh... You'd play this for a month or more without using a walkthough after taking a huge breaks because the game is wearing you down for you staying put whole evenings trying everything you can think of and nothing works.

Well wasn't as good as I remembered it to be.

The nonsensical puzzles... Nah, sorry I just don't like it any more. They just went too far at times, same with broken age. Some things don't even make sense in the game world they created.

Glottis... my god I didn't remember him as being this fucking annoying (Guess that twat really chose a good name for himself).

Manny is quite likeable as ever, story was a bit weak at times, bugs were still there and well it's a shitty done remaster with not much effort put into it. They could at least fix a few bugs and add an autosave instead of spending time on the fight for equality one tweet at a time.

Just one of those times where nostalgia hyped it too much for me.

+1

I bought the remastered edition as back when it got originally released I didn't have a gaming PC so I wasn't up to date with the new titles, and since then I heard non-stop praise directed at the game. I started it a few months ago and liked the story though I didn't think it was anything too special, but the gameplay made me stop at some point in the second chapter, I ciouldn't stand the ridiculous puzzles anymore, and I'm a puzzle game lover.

Who knows maybe it suffers from the same disease than GTA Vice City and the gameplay/mechanics aged really really bad.
