@TheZor Quote: | It's mostly the fact that he ain't the male Hollywood actor stereotype stereotype |
Ehh...no. He just look kinda ridiculous and his character is a very annoying whiny baby.
In other words, bad writing doesn't help it either

Empire Strikes Back is my most favourite movie of the old trilogy by far. Then it's Return of the Jedi and then New Hope. It just feels weird nowadays, didn't really age well and doesn't have good enough characters to get by with them as a basis.
As for the new movies, I liked VII quite a bit, despite the heavy fan service. It copied many ideas, but also turned some on their heads, especially when it comes to characters. I'm actually another rare vote in favour of Driver - to be honest, I found his character really refreshing. I probably couldn't have stomached another stereotypical Sith looming and glooming around (though we'll probably get that anyway - with Snoke).
I think Kylo's role in the movie is actually completely different from Vader's in the old trilogy. The audience doesn't always take him seriously, but I don't think it's even supposed to - I mean, even his people don't (and there are scenes that show that), so why would we? He's a ruse, really, a boy playing someone he's not - a dangerous boy, since he definitely is strong in the Force - but a boy nonetheless. He's immature, overly emotional and generally broken, but that's precisely what they were going for - it's not as if they tried to make another Vader and failed. The moment he takes his mask off, you kinda realize you've been played, but that's the whole idea.
I don't know why so many people expect every dark side character in Star Wars to follow the same stereotype. Evil/broken people can be immature, whiny, or even stupid, just like the good ones. In fact, considering how dark side works, I'd say it's much more appropriate for him to be the way he is, given his age, than to be a cold and calculating Vader clone.

What a bad-ass
I think the contrast with his masked alter ego was pulled off a lot better with Kylo Ren than with Vader, so they actually did something better than the OT there
Also, since TFO, I've seen other movies with Adam Driver, and he's genuinely a really good actor. |
Ahah, that's true ! Well, I loved that he looked so frail in the end Could have looked less like an egg though
Silence in which Adam Driver starred was pretty interesting, also featuring the worst Jedi Master in the history ( Liam Neeson ) - it's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.

Huh.
My employer just sent me an email asking me if I wanted a ticket for this. They've apparently reserved a session for the employees. Ofc I turned it down but used it to tease the SW fanbois from the other companies here that don't have the same benefits
