Overall this was way better than i expected it to be.
Though it was easy to cheese through most of the game with stealth and the various skills like Ambush and Predator.
8.2/10 - I'm excited for TEW3
did you play with gamepad?
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200

I mean, I like it but it's nowhere near perfect. It is better than the first one though just by the fact that it's not trying to be resident evil4 so hard. It's just a normal single player game of the type we don't get much anymore.

What does a free trial mean ? Demo, DLC, 30 day test period... wut ? They're supposed to give a free trial ! What's wrong with nowadays game developers and publishers ?

Starting right now, you can download The Evil Within 2 Free Trial on PS4, Xbox One and PC and play through the terrifying opening chapters of the game.
So i'm in the mood for a Horror game again and it seems there is not much else out there atm is this worth playing and do i need to play the first game?

First game is a trash fire. No need to play it for sequel.
This one is very good but not much as a horror but a bit more serious Resident Evil4.

Thought so ah well i allrdy downloaded both Fitgirl repacks might as well give the first game a go if it's really that bad i can always just skip to the second game.
The games aren't directly related (besides a few minor references and one specific deja-vu-powered level), so everything should be fine in that sense. Personally I would still recommend playing them both, they're two different gaming philosophies (each with their pros and cons ), in the end I liked them equally.
The first Evil Within is Mikami's original vision, based on a more linear cine-horror-structure with a lot of imaginative elements, it's technically rough (very) but completely bonkers in terms of story and actual design.
The sequel, on the other hand, comes with a more Westernized vision (from the rest of the team), it's mainly based on hubs and focused on survival - exploration/stealth/crafting, and the story is a more traditional one. It's a more polished experience overall (I would also suggest picking the Nightmare difficulty since the game is too easy otherwise), albeit it feels safer so to speak.
Yea I would say that the first one is overall the better game, it's just more unique, providing more horror and tension than the 2nd one, feels alot like RE4 at times.
The 2nd one, as ixi said, plays it safe. It's a methodical stealth game with the horror aspect dialed down, but also a more polished game, though I don't play games for polish.
Overall both are good games on their own terms but the 1st one is far more memorable.
Yeah seems nice so far although story and characters don't really make any sense to me 4 chapters in, technically it seems to be fine with some of the launch parameters from the pcgamingwiki site of the game, well i think will just play trough both games and decide for myself which one i like better.
first game is the better one hands down, and why would you start playing the sequel first beats me
Dunno sometimes sequels to games aren't directly related to their predecessors and opinions on the first game seem be love or hate it and not much in between from what i can see while the second game seems to get a lot more praise, i personally like it from what i have played so far so it was the right choice for me to start with the first one.

You are crazy. First game is a narrative and pacing trash

I absolutely hated the first game. It felt like a HUGE chore to play and a mish mash of the director's greatest hits in one game regardless of whether the pieces fit or not.
The second game was a nice surprise because you never know what to expect. One moment you're escaping a pus filled zombie, the next you're playing hide and seek with a creepy ice ghost

The story is related, not in the tightest sense, but characters and events carry on, so it helps to play it in the right order.
After finishing the game, you should also first play the story dlc, as it continues the story, and then start the sequel.
The first game is japanese survival-horror and the second one is western survival-"horror".
I definitely lean towards the former, but I can understand why other people may not like it, it can be a bit too stressful at times, which is what a game of this genre should be if you ask me.
First game was an incoherent mess, but that was kinda explained by the story. Still a bunch of crap though, and the second game mostly fixed that but was still kind of bland.

ixi and zeel said it best, and others before, even if its the same name they are very different, in the end its up to you what you want from a horror game, people have different opinions when it comes to horror content
even if the story is shit told at least the first one has some mistery and the ideea is interesting, the second one is just bland and everything is explained, like one of those stupid movies where they start with a big wall of text couse they dont know how to tell it otherwise
On my third try, the game finally clicked with me. It seems alright now that I've spent a couple of hours roaming around Union trying to find every single thing the designers have put for me (and I'm not done yet with the area).
The previous 2 introductory chapters were just bad for me.
Different (not better) take on the same kind of game, and also more polished, albeit less mysterious and perhaps atmospheric.
tl;dr seems like The American didn't fuck it up or at least not nearly as bad as I thought he did originally.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Alright, after finishing the game just now, I have to say this is one of the better (if not best) single player video game endings I've seen in recent years. In most single player experiences I've always felt at endings that the devs just cut it off, without any emotional payoff, "the player is through it all, f*** it, let's just end it there, why bother".
TEW2 works not because of what's happening storywise (if you boil it down it's really cliche'd and melodramatic), but because of HOW the events unfold and close in the last 2 chapters. The music, you can feel chatarsis, it's emotional and fast paced at the same time which really gets you invested, it shows that the devs really took their time and actually CARED to close a story to make it well rounded.
I'm not saying that "OMG best story ever!!", but if you care to close your story in a video game with a sequence, THIS is how you do it.
Kudos to Tango Gameworks!
