Even for Cold Steel and it's 50% increase (English) VO the vast, vast majority of the game is still completely silent because there's just so much dialogue, it's still less than Trails in the Sky (Second game here is BIG!) but every major event changes every characters dialogue and sometimes even smaller quest updates can cause dialogue changes (Though unlike Trails in the Sky this isn't always the case and not for every NPC in the entire region, ha ha.) it does make the games have more personality though where you can really follow each and every NPC and their little lives even if they still mostly just faff around doing little of actual worth but it's a nice take on development and character building.
Trails in the Sky has you travel around some different regions and experience new things though whereas Cold Steel has mostly focused on the school environment... and almost every JRPG and anime trope involving school life, innuendo is everywhere too and sometimes it's not even innuendo although it doesn't really turn into anything romantic, for the Cold Steel arc of the series this is "just" the 80-ish hours or so prologue part after all.
(Well 40-ish if you don't try to read and collect everything, ha ha.)
Seriously I know Trails in the Sky forewarned a bit about Erebonia what with Olivier but CS goes to some pretty far extremes at times.
Estelle was a little bit more practical too, beat with staff until movement stops.
(No wonder she was popular along with Joshua.)
I still haven't finished Trails in the Sky 2, loved the first game and was really pumped up for the sequel after it ended, but then I started the second one and it was so horribly slow while focusing on alot of new characters i dont give a crap about. Ah well, I ll have to finish it one day, but since I just took on the task of playing through all the story content of FF14, I guess that will be in my next life.

yeah, i enjoy reading their little life stories with changes every chapter and so on so walking around and talking to npcs isn't usually a chore except for when it's just a so so generic anime trope
but for the most part, i'll probably go play Trails in the Sky again now that turbo mode for that is coming

I actually tried to play the ps3 version a while ago since i had one lying around and it's just not possible, i can't go back to 720p with stuttery 30 fps and no turbo mode combat
And a number of other JRPG's too plus it's landing right on top of Secret of Mobile Mana.
Things are getting a bit crowded but it's good to see more JRPG's being ported, also good to see more ports being done well.
(Ys VIII is delayed again and again but it sounds like they're fixing it up bit by bit at least, will be interesting to see what Square has done with XII PC and then XV PC in particular and then there's Bandai and Ni No Kuni 2 and Koei with their usual dice-roll PC port quality randomness.)

I actually wish it was a port of the mobile version of SoM they improved the pixel art in that one and it looks pretty great while this version looks like a visual downgrade apart from being in 3d.
Right it's a handled 3D update and not the earlier mobile version.
And they did that without scaling the crap out of the original pixel art too after checking it out.
Whereas this looks well it tries to keep the character style and concept art visuals but it doesn't look as good with the low--poly environments and effects suffering in particular.
(Also from what I remember of a earlier comparison they removed a lot of little details the pixel art had such as key stones for some of the stone walls in a castle area and shadowing.)
EDIT: Well it's been handled of sorts alright (And not "handled alright.") but I meant hand-held.
Square used to take more care into re-releasing their older games but these last few releases haven't been all that great, things change I guess.
(Additions and changes plus certain bugs in the original versions also makes fans argue endlessly which version was the definitive one. )
Which as far as I remember it's short for percentage closer soft shadows.
EDIT: For Cold Steel 2, unknown if Cold Steel 1 will see this backported though it looks like he wants to revisit the game eventually but no details on what will be added to CS1 although PCSS might not make it.
