The Alienist, the anticipated psychological thriller,created by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective), based on the Anthony Award-winning bestseller by Caleb Carr, is set in 1896 amidst the vast wealth, extreme poverty and technological innovation of New York during the Gilded Age The series follows the hunt for a serial killer responsible for the gruesome murders of boy prostitutes. Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning and Brian Geraghty star.
The series, currently shooting in Budapest, is helmed by BAFTA-nominated director Jakob Verbruggen (Black Mirror). Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Wisdom and Q’orianka Kilcher also star.
Michael Ironside (Total Recall) is set for a key recurring role on TNT’s upcoming straight-to-series drama The Alienist. Ironside will play J.P. Morgan, the famous American financier and banker who wielded great power in NYC at the turn of the century
TNT has set a date for its century-plus time jump. The cable net said today its period drama The Alienist starring Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning will premiere at 9 PM Monday, January 22.
The first episode was decent enough to give the show a try.
The setting and atmosphere were great, however, I didn't quite like how certain characters were written, specifically Dakota Fanning's character which is a shame, coz she is a good actress yet here she had to deliver some ridiculous lines.
I thought it was, ok. Has potential to be the type of show I like

from my side :
Great sets ... awful acting ... mixed with an Movie Editor that does not know sh!t about coherent scene editing (the same scene , suddenly a music that shows the action and drama impact ... 4 secs after a camera change... no music .... haha )
