Transformer (that latest one) 3/10

Since we had all the other abortions I set myself up with low expectations. Half an hour in and derp hopkins on screen was the time I turned it off. I guess this is what happens when a movie tries to cater to the dorito crowd. At least the tone is a level lower than what you'd usually expect for children.

Ah yes and...Those kids felt like some exec saw stranger things and said: yes, do that!

So if you don't mind shitty acting, crappy dialogue and a derper than childish tone give it a go. Razz
At least the visuals didn't suck of what little I've seen.

Noah (in 3D) - 6/10

Watched it in theatres back then, found it bland. Improved a little re-watching it now in 3D, the conversion is excellent and the extra depth added some spectacular vistas and gravity to the images. Not bad.

Transformers: The Last Knight (in 3D) - 5/10

Technically brilliant, lacks everything else. I'll not repeat what everyone else knows about casting decisions and script, but it really is abysmal Laughing Points go for the last 20 minutes. What a delight in scale, colours and set designs!

That was... yeah, pretty good, really. Much better than I expected, and better than the plot summary made it sound. It felt tight, no wasted moments - though at times the dialog and developments and names and the slang was coming pretty fast I could only really focus on the flow and the overall revelations and developments to keep following the story rather than understanding everything the characters were saying; modern Hollywood films have taken their toll Very Happy

But I recommend the movie. Really quite the ride, gordon-levitt really nailed it

This movie was awesome! 8/10 for me. Great thriller. Saw it on Netflix (Canadian), name is The Invisible Guest.

The painting

Started off as a fun, upbeat, enjoyable, whimsical allegory of racism and classism, and turned into something pretty dark and sinister.

Not a bad film, worth a watch for being a pretty cool concept that was well executed.

Kingsman 2: Golden Circle - 6.5/10

Basically old Bonds. It was kind of worse than the first one. Still very enjoyable but didn't have that surprise factor. Overall decent action, over the top villains, some funny moments, some tearjerkers.
But everyone who was with me to see it said that it wasn't as enjoyable as the first one.

The cast was really good and thankfully Hally Berry and Tatum had really little time on screen. Elton John was pretty dope.

And some CGI was on par with cheap SyFy shows, really just fucking zero budget crap.

Overall enjoyable but subpar (eg. standard) sequel.

Spider Man Homecoming

Pretty much the usual MCU writing and quality, just with a more likeable and relateable hero.

I'd say it's a solid 8/10.

Paper-thin villain as usual, but decent-to-great fights, and some MCU cameos, but they were actually handled quite well (the Cap PSAs were a nice touch, especially the LAST one Razz).

Undeniably the best Spidey to date. I kinda had no real problems with the previous two actors (except for emo Peter, that was more of a headscratcher than anything else), but this one came the closest to what little I experienced of the old-timey comics.

Maaannn that was a weird one. Interesting, and pretty amusing and well made. Little bit of a head-scratcher at times though, trying to seperate an actor playing himself in a fictional story with character aspects that are true to him, but still creating a fictional version of himself...

Loved this movie. I always had a soft spot for Van Damme, even if I'm not too fond of classic action/bravado/martial arts films. He strips himself on screen, and he mixes reality with fiction with gusto IMO.
As a side note, you should watch Universal Soldier 3 Regeneration if you already didn't, it's a more mature take on the sci-fi roundkick house genre.

Your Name

I'm not really into animes, I heard last year that this was a huge hit and noted it down to my backlog for a later watch but I kinda forgot about it. Now I read that J.J. Abrams picked this up for live-action adaptation I suddenly remembered it and decided to give it a watch.
Man it was amazing.. Not just the beautiful art, the soundtrack, but the story and how it unfolded, it was really heart wrenching at times. Definitely one of the best animation films of the last year and I recommend everyone to watch this (before Hollywood slaps it with a subpar remake).
Huge thumbs up for the makers!

Spiderteen Homecoming - 6/10

Definitely a better result than the last time I saw Spidey fighting blue Electrofox in not-so-amazing spodermon 2, and a somewhat competent reeboted reboot of a rebooted Spider ready for future use. Tom Holland was decent, he captured the essence of the superhero and didn't come off as (too) annoying, even though the amount of silly stuff targeted to young audiences and high school melodrama was off the charts. I really felt old in more than one occasion Razz Laughing

The action was serviceable, same for the story (well "story"), kept alive by Birdman himself, hands down the highlight of the movie and the only actor that truly gave credibility to the film. All the many forgettable filler scenes, bland side characters and nu-millennial talk almost made me regret watching it, though I liked that the main villain arc was a small-scale conflict and not the "I gotta saev teh planet" ordeal, it was fitting to the theme with IGN Spidey struggling with awesome buttons and whatnot.

Spiderman: Homecoming, 6.5/10.
Well, that was a bit disappointing. Tom Holland was OK enough as a spiderman but the forced jokes and stupid "action cam" footage made the movie much worse than it could've been. It might be the worst movie opening I've seen in a long time. Keiton still made movie watchable though.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - 6.5/10

Pretty fun. I like the fact it's very different compared to the previous Spider-Man films because it makes it worthwhile to see it.

At first I thought Keaton was a waste of money as his appearance in the film did nothing for me, but when the reveal happens - as nonsensical or or exaggerated as his reaction was - it was so damn entertaining to watch him. Money well spent I'd say!

I thought Zendaya was really good despite her short screen time and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of her in the sequel.

Holland is ok as a dork, but not as a hero. His scene with the debris was just bad. As a dork he is good though.

Jennifer Connelly's voice was Frap Frap Guy

Raimi's remain the definitive Spidey films.

timecrimes

im sorry, i just couldnt do it. I know people think its amazing, and really clever and such a great movie, but i just couldnt even finish it.

the story may have been well conceived and written back when it came out, but that effect is lost on me since ive seen movies in recent times that have also had pretty clever time-travel related stories, and hell, i LOVED quantum break and that story was amazing as hell.

so while the story may have been interesting, what i couldnt get past was the main character. he was just such an unlikeable, stupid, ignorant, self-centered, nasty piece of shit.. and spending 90 minutes following someone that dumb and annoying is a level of masochism that i was just not willing to subject myself to. I made it about 45 minutes in and just realized I was not having fun and any interest I had in how the story was going to resolve was not enough to make up for the thoroughly unpleasant cunt it revolved around. I ended up checking the wiki, and i dont think i really missed anything amazing. If you loved it, then great, it just wasnt for me. I can put up with a lot in a film, but irredeemably unlikable characters are not one of them.

anyway

vampire hunter d bloodlust: rewatched, it was enjoyable but not as great as i remember it being

immortel ad vitam: weeeirrrdd. i feel like there was a really interesting and expansive world in here that maybe a tv series could have made better use of? I followed what was happening well enough, i just feel like there was a lot of interesting backstory and subtext that were in the original materials that they couldnt adequately (or didnt bother to) get across in a 90 minute film. Had some cool action, some surreal and weird shit that was very interesting, and some neat characters, though a bit awkward in the execution.

mojin - the lost legend: a film critics and viewers tend to hate, but i quite enjoyed. It was a light hearted adventure story that was more tomb raider than any tomb raider movie has ever been. Reminds me a lot of the (good) mummy movies with, i thought, a good balance of humor, seriousness, and high adventure with a fun bunch of characters that knows well enough not to take itself TOO seriously.

Spoder Men Homecamming 7.5/10

Pretty good men, even though new spodey is a teenager it didn't feel super cringy, even his asian friend was pretty alright and not that obnoxious.

The sequel could be better if they up the stakes a bit and make it a bit more grim. This all felt a bit like the tutorial level in some game, even the protagonist was some weak-sauce.

baby driver

let me start by saying yes, yes i do think this film was overrated... not MASSIVELY overrated, but certainly quite a bit. id rate it around the mid 6's out of 10, certainly not in the high 7s or 8s..

I get it. The director was going full on for STYLE... style spelt like SSSTYYYYYYLLLEEEE, with shades on Cool , and making a slow, smooth hand gesture. But very little meat, to the point where some bits just dragged and felt pointlessly artsy instead of the style enhancing an enjoyable film. I think thats the best way to describe it. It started ok, but I think i got tired of the shit pretty quickly. Its weird, because I loved scott pilgrim, it was a great movie, and wright nailed it in that film, simply nailed what I think he tried to do here; take a story, and give it a unique, quirky and artistic vibe. But with baby? The mix just wasnt right for me, i only ever really enjoyed the 'heist' portions of the film.

Maybe wright just spent too long focusing on babys connection to music, but wayyy beyond the point he needed to. We got it.. stop banging on about it.

But, during any of the gang/heist/action stuff, the movie was amazing. Someone here way back said the film did an amazing job of setting the action to the music.. and then someone else came along and said it wasnt really very well synced... I'm definitely in agreement with the former, the music, sound effects and action all worked together in concert and it was most pleasent. Here is where wrights 'style' for the film really works - sometimes subtle, sometimes overt, but every time it not only was clear what he was trying to do, but it hit all the marks.

Also the film did have a really really well put together score. Guardians of the galaxy 2 WISHES it had these tracks instead of the 80% shit they came up with.

Two key points this film loses marks from me for, however, are

#1: no epic final car chase. I felt like i was owed one dammit.. this was baby DRIVER.. i got two car chases.. ok and one foot chase, but come on.. wheres my finale, with baby roaring and sliding through the city with an epic song blaring on the radio...

#2: you cant.. you can NOT, by law of ALL THE GODS IN THE UNIVERSE, start playing radar love... and then not give me a chase. what the absolute fuck, one of the greatest car songs ever, and you tease me with him finding it on a radio station from a car he just stole... and then... nothing.

fuck. you.
