I think this game has now become a game for teenage girls travelling around and bragging to your other girlfriends all the cool things you saw?? Like? Right? VERY PRETTY!

It's like someone telling you about their trip or their child.
Can you use your ship in underground areas (like in Descent?) are there even any big underground areas?
I tried it very briefly just too see the graphics / controls etc, and at least that seemed pretty good.
There are. But it will depend on your luck to find planets geologically generated in that way. I have already found planets with a system of immense underground caverns. Now in 1.3 i just found this planet with this formation.
In the game currently there is only first person view during the flight.
So, just had a look at some mini-reviews since the Atlas update came out.
And it seems that even those people that refunded the game at release are liking it very much now. Of course it still has issues. But the fun now seems to outweight them.

Yeah, it still has its issues. Some I imagine will be patched soon (like the high capacity exosuit slots not being available if you'd previously maxed the capacity already)
The UI is still utter shit and inconsistent. In some lists you can use Q/E to cycle through them. In other lists you use A/D. And in the A/D lists, E is the select key so you can end up doing shit you don't want.
Ship controls still suck, both in space and planet side. Although it is nice to not have the stupid altitude restriction now. And landing where you want is much easier now since you can slow down to almost a hover.
Some of the missions I have no idea where to take the "fetch this, deliver there" stuff. It just says "mission objective is in another system, press X when in space" and there doesn't seem to be any indicator on the map on where I need to go. That's fine if you're in a 2d land based game. But a procedurally based space game with potentially millions of destinations, you kind of have to give a direction to go. And selecting "mission" or whatever on the galactic map doesn't help. I think it's broken as it'll say "target reached" and the display still says objective in another system.

That sounds pretty good actually. Are there rare artifacts and upgrades to find, like in Terraria or Starbound?
I might end up liking this
Definitely yes. You will have to fulfill missions to NPCs interact with terminals in stations and also with the NPCs inside them, find in the surface of the planets by fallen ships and see if compensates fix them and exchange them for your current ship. The beginning is more difficult because of this, you really have to go out there searching for it.
You also need to find places on the surface of the planets to expand your exosuit inventory.
Of course with the current update some things have changed, so there may be new ways to acquire technology blueprints.
Even if sometime they fix this game and it turns out like something they promised at the release, i won't buy it. I won't reward them for their lies. They lied and scammed big time so why the hell should we give them money just because they are now, a year after, implementing some of the stuff they promised for the release?

I have very little incentive to explore planets that look like the flora and fauna locations were sprayed on by MS Paint's spray tool. Instead of forests, we get a completely random placement of trees, for example.
I really wouldn't mind the hamster-wheel gameplay, if only the locations were interesting to look at.
It's really stupid if it doesnt have water, since we all know its the molecule for life, and the planets have life. In the settings there are key binding for swimming so i'm pretty sure there's water.
Edit: 1 sec video google: there's even entire water plantets.

Well, plenty of planets I've been to, temperate planets didn't have a single body of water anyway.
Still, the point remains, the planets look all really... bad. You can just see the random surface generator at work. Everything is random. Something which in nature really isn't the case like that.
"Random" generation these days can be pretty advanced, obviously it doesnt just dump whatever near whatever, there's logic behind how things are placed, why and where. It doesn't look too bad overall.
Hand placement on 18.4 quintillion planets would take around 18.4 quintillion years This game is quantity over quality, no doubt about that at all. But it's also too obvious for me to really complain about an "issue" like that, when it's kind of the very premise of the game
I actually kind of like randomized maps. It does share some of the mystery that nature creates (as in placement is not human, it's just randomization and logic behind it). I also like the feeling that i may be the first to discover something, perhaps an entire planet, that hasn't been seen by every other player.
I've played for around 3-4h, it keeps me interested enough but i'm not amazed, it's pretty much what i have expected.
Since when is nature, planets, and fauna outside Earth consistent and predictable when every frick'n day our own sometimes r*tarded understanding of astronomy and science keeps on changing as we, yet again, stand corrected on what we knew as being factual? Its the same logic that every other day coffee is bad, no wait, its good, no no its bad, f*ck off its good!!!
Its a game of course but the universe is a real facked up playground.. hell, every other week, month, or year they find bizarre sh*t under our own oceans that forces us to re-think what we know.

BTW: the post wasnt aimed at you .... the whole thing is just ridiculously fascinating and absurd to me as psychology minor and member of small development team (luckily its not games)
yeah weird times to see people still holding such intense grudge and hate towards a videogame even year later
Yep ppl definitely got their money's worth by now, they redeemed them self with those updates, so i think it's time to shut up about it the whole affair was blown way out of proportion back then anyway, let bygones be bygones.
It's fucked up that it needed a backlash before the devs decided they should actually give a fuck about their customers... to me, that's not a dev worth supporting or encouraging. A dev that cares because they want to make quality products is worth supporting, not a bunch of shitheads that are made to care because oh shit their profits are in trouble. Fuck hello games and everyone that supported them by buying their game. Thanks for making gaming quality that little extra bit worse by encouraging shitty developer mentalities and showing them that as long as they pretend to care a little bit after they've been called out for not giving a shit, then all will be forgiven. Showing devs that we suckers will easily forgive everything, encouraging them to take a punt and see how little effort they too can put in and how many lies they tell and we'll still lap it up. And if they fuck up and push too far? Never mind, we've shown them a patch or two a couple months after release will smooth it all over.
But then, I guess we've long since stopped caring about the shitty state of gaming these days haven't we. We've gotten used to console ports mostly being trash and running poorly (let's just be happy the publishers honoured us with their table scraps, right??!), gotten used to dlc, we've mostly gotten used to single player microtransactions, publisher price gouging... What's one more corpse for the fire, I guess. I can't wait until paid mods are finally a thing. No doubt we'll roll over for that one too before long.
No wonder devs don't give a fuck anymore, when even we don't care for more than a week or two when it's popular to care, before we just shrug and say fuck it... Bygones and all that...
It sold pretty well initially too but I guess it started slipping lately so they put in some effort and going by Steam it seems to be doing OK again at currently the #3 spot for top sellers.

Why do you think this was the case with them? Maybe the game was rushed by the publisher? I mean. . . i was one of the people that hated this game too. . . but i do seem to recall them saying all along that they would be supporting the game intensely post release. I didn't believe it. But, as it turned out, it was one of the things they said that they actually are doing. Rather than bash them for that too, I think they deserve some kind of credit. And, if the game continues to be updated even more for free. . . good for them and for all the people that do enjoy the game.

From wat i get and if you like those open-world games: Yes.
I enjoy those kind of games very much myself. Stopped playing the release version back then very shortly though.
But i'm very excited to try the new release, once i have time for it.
