Sup boyos?
Is anybody here growing any kind of crops?
I'm using, as a belgian, my legal right to have two weed plants growing to become a "horticultist".
Results are showing by the day!

She's still a bit shy, but her roots are from the Insanium Galaxy.
I'm using weed to try and maintain and successfully grow a fruit-bearing plant.
I'm gonna try and plant other type of stuff (strawberries, grapes, tomatos, oignons, garlic, leek, etc...) depending on the season, since I have quite the full, unobscured southern sunlight.
Please give protips, or share your own gardening experience!

Just wait till you see the bulbous cucumber, the thick broccoli, the well-hung tomatoes and the fully erect corn plants.

Here in Brussels, you can "rent" some rooftops to grow crops, and you might even have a grant for it.

Their sex will show not far from now I hope. I think the big one is a male and the smaller one a female. I got the seeds from a friend, so there's no telling.
I have a third one that I had to "clone" using, well , the whole thing, since the main stem was maimed by some fucking pigeon/retarded non-weed-eating, pigeon-looking bird.
It's in intensive care since this morning (it's the one I left outside for the night, so it's my fault).
Hope it survives the trauma, and doesn't turn into a filtlhy trans.

I think the secret is the horse shit, thankfully I have a guy who is glad to be rid of it.
Some plants don't like a lot of fertilizer (light feeders), others love it. So for example I put more horse shit with the melons and only a little with the beans. I think it's also important not to plant the same stuff in the same areas each year. Not enough sun where I planted the potatoes, they are probably going to be very small. Next year I'll put champignon mushrooms there. And so much weeds! I'll definitely get some straw and a fleece to better combat the shits in the future.
Rooftops should be great for growing stuff, lots of sun. If you can get a grant, go for it
Good stuff HubU! Unfortunately I don't have any tips nor I'm allowed to do anything here because I would risk a trip to jail. Killing someone is okay, stealing and corrupting are practically harmless pastimes, but cultivating weed? Now that's a proper capital sin deserving of extra harsh punishments xD #italyslogic
I also have like 16 broccoli plants and they are fucking huge - must be the horseshit I used to fertilize the soil

We used to reserve a small part of the garden to the art of growing vegetables and fruit as well, but eventually it was dismantled because the results were far from satisfying. The biggest problem was however that the few juicy products would always end up being devoured by magpies, crows and turtle doves before reaching their ripening

I don't have a steady supply of horse shit of my own. I tried to read some posts from M̶r̶.̶ ̶T̶i̶n̶k̶l̶e̶s̶ people here to the plants, but they started to shrink immediatly though.
In all seriousness, I could have some from peasants near my mom's house, but I'm afraid it would attract "unwanted attention", espacially since they are potted plants.

I don't need grants to start I think, but having them depends, of course, of a lot of things.
I would need to be knowing what I'm doing, and publicise it. I have no moral problem being a urban garden's whore, since it's good for everybody.
I have to find a place, do it, monitor and make some kind of video/pic journal of it, then send it to the according agencies, and I'm sure they'll be glad to help out.
I don't mind putting money from my own pocket, but if this grant can help cover it and more, then hell yeah
No far from where I live, there is a guy that has beehives on the rooftops of an big hotel. My mom bought some honey from him and gave me some, it was really good.
That's what gave me the idea (although it already exists, of course.)

I would love to have a garden comparable to yours Shocktrooper - ( any garden at all really ) ! Everything is looking healthy and not over-fertilized a bit, good job !

Most work is digging over and preparing the gardens before planting stuff (around February-April).
Digging, mixing in probably a ton of manure and straw, raking. It's hard manual work, a fine workout, not good if you have problems with your back though. The little scaffolds and stalks are set up quickly.
Meanwhile I planted most seeds early in greenhouse, in small pots or boxes, then transplanted young plants into garden.
Once all is set up, there isn't so much effort required though.
Mostly watering and removing weeds/dead leaves. At most 1-2 hours every 2 days.
I have two hose/sprinkler thingies for watering, so it works automatically but I have to move it around all the time cause it only covers a smallish area.
Occasionally fixate some of the climbing plants and tomatoes and help them grow in the right direction (I noticed they are quite dumb initially, especially the beans)
In terms of pests, I only have issues with spanish slug for now but this year thankfully there are not many (Winter was cold, so most died). Last year I cut up 130+ with a hedge clipper, may also have contributed a bit.

but I grow smaller varieties for more moderate climate (Petit Gris de Rennes and Sugar Baby) they don't grow as big sadly
