Great port, but what is the deal in PC games in general that videos look like shit and takes shitloads of space?. How hard it can be to encode videos with good quality without stuttering?

Don't know about the stuttering, but for better compression you would need to pay the licensing fees for a better codec.

Well they where made for consoles so 720p is enough and cause there is more then enough space on the discs they can use the crappiest (cheapest) codec they can find.

Higher framerate = higher damage taken, apparently:

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it feels like a cheap GoW clone.

Hi Vanquish fans,
We've seen the reports linking framerate to damage taken in-game, as well as other issues reported in this thread, and we are investigating.
Please watch this space for further updates -- we'll keep you posted.
Thank you for your reports and system specs! |

UPDATE 2 (29 MAY)
It’s a holiday here in the UK, but we wanted to get a patch out to you as quickly as possible, so we have made publicly available our beta patch. Please note that this patch has not been QA checked, so install at your own risk!
To install, go to Vanquish in your Steam library, right click and select “Properties,” then go to the “Betas” tab. In the field to enter the beta access code, type the password
PatchBetaTest
(caps-sensitive); “public_patch” will now appear in the drop down menu. Select it and close the Properties menu.
This patch addresses the following:
• Fixed an issue with invincibility frame timing (which sometimes allowed the player to get hit more frequently at higher frame rates).
• Fixed an issue with health regeneration at higher frame rates.
• Fixed an issue when resetting to default on the options menu.
• Fixed an issue with video cutscenes skipping early for some players.
• Fixed an animation issue when sliding backwards and aiming using keyboard and mouse.
• Adjusted cutscene audio volume.
The patch also adds two more command line functions:
• -monitor 2 (or any number in a multi-monitor setup)
This will allow users to select which monitor to treat as the primary device, which will allow full screen exclusive to work on that display.
• -window
This will force the game to boot into windowed mode (which should help some players if the game is defaulting to an unsupported resolution).
Please feel free to give the beta patch a go and report your findings in this thread. Thank you.

As if the traditional Dudebros weren't enough, the Japanese arrived and decided to picture their own fuck yeah America version in Mechasauce
It's a good port, plays very well with m&kb and the style/visuals aren't obsolete, but that's pretty much where the positives end for me. A cover shooter that revolves entirely around simplistic (but one could say nonexistent) level design and painfully repetitive enemies, seasoned by an extremely dumb story, QTEs and dialogues starring steroidal characters inspired by Gears of War's memorable not franchise and their yellinglikeagoat01.wav voice samples. Stemot is right, it does indeed feel like a cheap clone and not even Giroud's knee sliding can save it.
Pulling off the fancy slow-mo's has its moments, but the consolish nature of the shooting itself and the lack of variety, depth and physics are capital sins, an attempt partially saved only by its short length (I still finished it for the sake of completeness). And to think that Binary Domain for instance managed to provide a much more interesting take on the genre thanks to the narrative and design..if I had to rate it, it would be a (generous) ~5,5/10
*slides away*

well to me stuff like BD feels like totally different genre compared to Vanquish, but maybe its just me rarely taking cover in Vanquish
As for "cheap gears clone" , i dont know - yeah it had just fraction of GoW budget compared , but i was dying from boredom playing gears , this was so far some great fun

Finished the game in 4 of the 6 HLTB hours .
It felt great, though again i didn't had such patch and got killed easily at the most absurd parts.
That unexpected ending though..

i dont like it either, style is nice but shooting gets boring very fast with no real challenge...the slow motion and sliding feel like they were made with a gamepad in mind and the story is just your usual jap crap, gears of war 4 was a little boring too but was good enough to finish it.

Well, finally played and finished vanquish on steam. For some reason I did not played it on 360.
It was pretty cool and smooth running at about 150-240fps (of 240hz gsync monitor)... and the game was okish.
It controlled great, graphics are good and it was visually creative. But it got repetitive quickly and the audio was just crap. Explosions overpowering bad music all the time and everything sounds kinda muffled and not as impressive as it looks. It generally did not aged well but I think it was an alright game..
And it took me 3h 43m minutes (mission time) lol and I am glad it was not a minute longer but at the same time, I kinda enjoyed what I played in a relaxing way.

its a pity the general consensus here is that the game is meh
i picked it up during the sale because free card money, and so far.. im actually having a blast with it. the graphics are dated (but that just means it runs really well), and the controls are wonky (why do i have to manually press a button to pick up a gun drop of the same type im carrying, just to replenish my ammo... why do picking up dupe weapons that i have equipped give me a weapon upgrade, but ONLY if i have that weapon out at the time and it doesnt count if its in my inventory... etc etc), but the combat is viscerally satisfying, mechanically sound, and its just one fun set-piece after another. Its not challenging, but im fine with that for a game like this.
i THOUGHT i was going to hate it when i realized it was story-light, and basically just an endless run and gun type game. I disliked the new doom game precisely because of that, but i think what makes this game fun for me in addition to the gameplay, is the hyper-masculinity bullshit it features. ridiculous over the top male cliches, with swearing and hilariously cheesy gruff rah rah male shittalking... it reminds me of bulletstorm, binary domain and gears of war in a really really good way. I love my games to have story in them... and this one fails in that regard. But a pretty sweet second, is when the games have character and are just unapologetically fun. and thats what this is.

Finished it. Not a long game, but one I thought was actually a little too long for its content. I think it ran out of steam towards the end. This would have been one hell of a 3 hour 10 dollar title. It needs more variety towards the end, and needed to ramp up the craziness to compensate for the already crazy tone since the beginning. Some of the later boss fights were boring and the locations got stale (that little forest segment was a nice, much needed break.
I don't regret buying it. It was overall a pretty fun ride.
