@Bob Barnsen nice find, ya i was going to say the video's dont really do it justice, set any resolution, also the increase to fps makes the game play 10x smoother. For any fans I strongly recommend a download, I might do another playthrough once im done with wfto expansion.
Version 1.18 of StarCraft: Brood War will be released “later this week,” Blizzard said in a release. The update to the 1998 game will include a variety of bug fixes and new features, including the ability to rebind keys and an official observer mode.
The update will also introduce new anti-cheat measures and better compatibility with modern operating systems (namely Windows 7, 8.1 and 10).
Better still, as of version 1.18, the StarCraft Anthology will be completely free to download and play.
So it seems they will release a major update to the original and release it for free.
It seems they don't offer 1.18 update only, which sucks because I'm not eager to download the entire game which I already have (especially via this "web installer", gib standalone setup at least)...
Meh. The promo video is utter shite, and the remastered version is quite a letdown. I thought we'd be able to zoom out at least a bit more. No other change would have been necessary apart from upping the resoluiton, which they apparently did.

Zooming out implies changes to the multiplayer and that clearly has to stay untouched.
They could keep the zoom locked for MP though or add a option for allowing it.
(Though going by the above video then for a RTS these days that isn't Supreme Commander / Total Annihilation that's not a bad zoom level. )
This is due to imperfections of original assets being made more visible due to not downscaling them to fit 640x480 screen resolution, as in original game. That is what is giving "plastic look".
Only watched the Terran one so far, most of the portraits are pretty faithful but they changed Kerrigan to what looks to be close to the Ghost / SC2 design and Reynor looks a bit off though not to the same extent.
Hm.. I Have somewhat mixed feeling about the remaster, The engine is clearly outdated,
The new Res and portraits are an improvments but it's not something that cannot be achived via modding..
Isn't it just better off to to 'rebuild' the game vita the newest game engine?
They could obviously done that, and it won't be expansive but I guess the limitation of the old engine is somewhat the thing that is making the original game compatative in Korean eyes?
What makes me wonder is the Observer system still going to be the same with the remastered like the first game, where you can be observers in games and watch people battleing each other... They say it's going to use the current BT2 net system.
The second game, despite having updated matchmaking system up to 2017, for some reasons has inferior/poor Observer options when you just want to see 1vs1 on live battles, for instance, and you are forced to either watch on youtube or download replays..
Watching people In-game where you can scrolls things by yourself is the best.
Sometimes, you don't want to play by yourself just want to watch other people play and learn from them.
There is no on live Observer options(as far as I saw, maybe you can watch thournments on battle net or something that I am missings?) and I have yet to see people are doing mods that includs that.
The matchmaking overal is better of course, but it's strange decision they made with the second game there is no simple way to be observer In-Game in SC2.
EDIT: I just read there is a away, but its sounds very limited but I will try it later on.

Question answered, the limitations of the games era is what made the game such a successful e-sport / competitive rts. Korean Starcraft is one of the only e-sports where i can watch a good player in awe of how goddamn fast and skilled they are. More than often than not, streamlining ruins the formula just look at Diablo 3
They should have given SC2 an optional old school competitive mode, that disabled the auto-movement and limited unit selection to I think it was 9 units > that would have at least given the e-sports scene some incentive to switch to the new game. They could have catered pro-competition and casual MP, lost opportunity.

This is literally a graphical update to the game, that's it. They're not doing this for the "fans", they're doing this for the BW competitive scene in Korea. Meaning all the little quirks, bugs, exploits, pathfinding issues must remain the same. So an engine update would actually be detrimental to the point of all this.
But even as a fan of BW, I would rather play the game with the old engine, then with updated one. Because even as a casual player, the limitations of BW is part of the charm. I just wish the remaster will run properly on modern systems. You know, fixing the color-bit problems, alt tabbing, etc.
