Haha yeah, they don't release any specific infos about that, but I don't think it's a *forever in beta* product Laughing There must be a deadline somewhere in the near future, I hope Razz

they "claim" there is no deadline. It's done when it's done as they say. The earliest that guy Tim once wrote was 2013. So at least another 6 months. I say we won't see a release til next spring or summer.

i think what they meant was that they keep improving on the game after it's released, so there will be updates in 2013 as well....

they have licensed plenty of cool content so rf2 will not just be about modding.

Looks just like the miserable weather we had this morning, dull skies with misty rain and a hint of sunshine through some broken cloud.

Smile Smile - Funny how im longing to have this in game but in rl I wanted sunshine

How is this game compared to Project Cars?

Haven't tried pCars yet (will do it soon, thanks to Pumpy Razz) but rFactor is a pure simulation, much more enjoyable with a proper wheel than a controller. The first build was a bit buggy (it's a beta after all) but I heard things got a lot better. Smile

Graphically speaking is quite basic (read "uglier than pCars"), though it's getting prettier thanks to the constant updates which are adding a lot of contents/effects.

The latest build (494) is finally playable offline with a yarr executable (cs.rin/Wbb have it) Razz
I just tried it and works fine, just remember to create a desktop shortcut to rFactor2.exe, click on properties and and change the "start in" line from ****rFactor2\Core\ to ****rFactor2 (it's the only way to start the game)

The launcher is greyed out, but mods and official contents work well, just put all the *.rfcmp files into the 'Packages' folder and then install them through the Mod Manager (ModMgr.exe)

Tracks: http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/tracks/

The game itself is still unfinished (slowest development ever Laughing), but it's definitely more polished and fun to drive. Hopefully now that it's in a decent condition more meaty contents will start to appear.

This is hilarious because almost 2 years later it's at the same place in terms of content. It's just not a complete package and doesn't have any focus. Some cars have literally nothing in class to race against. Though I still love the game because the physics and AI is just that good.
They better stop dragging their feet though because AC physics and tire model has been improving at a steady rate and I probably play that more now just because of the well rounded content.

Haha yeah they're lazypants Very Happy, there's no doubt about that! Speaking of which, in case anyone wants to play it now (I should do it too, it's been a while), the FTS men have all the goodies:

rFactor.2-FTS
rFactor.2.Build.1080-FTS

It seems the game will finally leave the mid 2000s with the new update, another studio took over recently-ish and is bringing some needed improvements:

(The rin men already have it Razz)

Finally, the most recent version (+ DLCs) has reached the yarr seas: rFactor2.v1112.Build.3646315 - P2P + rFactor2.DLCs.2019-04 - P2P Very Happy

I haven't played the game in years (literally), but apparently the recent-ish engine overhaul and constant updates have partially tamed the beast. It will likely still feel like a huge beta sandbox rather than a game, though at least both the 100% simulative driving model and good AI could grant doses of vroom-y fun.
