It runs really well here on a GTX970

No issues apart from having to set the resolution manually

Aye, expected worse because of it being a port but was pleasantly surprised. Had a few grumbles with the settings but after setting them manually everything went smooth.
Typical Lego game with better setting/story than the latest ones it seems.

So far its fantastic. Yah had to use my Lego Worlds pcsetting.txt and copy it to Lego City Undercover appdata folder as any edits to that file will corrupt it. Now I get full 1920x1080 and man it runs and looks great!

Doesn't have quite the same settings as Lego Force Awakened but I guess this is a older game originally from the WiiU, still it's been pretty fun so far although as usual no-one over at TT has heard about mouse input. Razz

Criminal: Lego City Undercover PC is utterly broken
Quote:
Yet again TT Games have released a game onto PC that isn’t nearly good enough. Lego City Undercover [official site] has launched in such a state that you can’t change the resolution from the main menu settings. The “Accept” button is entirely impossible to select, and the default is a teeny 1280×1024. And for goodness sakes, don’t Alt-Tab.

That’s the case for everyone playing, not just an unlucky few. However, the individual issues then start piling up.

This is nothing new for TT Games. PC releases of their Lego games have frequently been completely derisory, for many years not offering the most basic of options for the platform. Resolutions were locked in incredibly low, windowed modes were impossible, alt-tabbing crashed everything, and mouse support wasn’t even considered. Then in 2016 something changed, and we saw a couple of titles appear that seemed to know they weren’t being played on a Megadrive! Hurrah! Finally, TT had noticed that people paying for their games on PC didn’t deserve to be so rudely dismissed.

I saw some performance complain and I was afraid.
People ... Embarassed

In the end the game runs smooth @4K 60fps no problem.
(They should have rebuild the intro movie though, because WiiU's resolution sux ^^ )

Also, ALT-TAB and windowed mode issue are unbelievable.
But I wouldn't call the game UTTERLY broken for this. Rolling Eyes

Jeez.. I was more thinking "utterly broken" meant buggy key assignments, huge graphical issues, and sound artifacting up the arse FOR STARTERS! Laughing Having to hack the resolution and NOT Alt-Tabbing is a 0-day patch.

It's fucking inexcusable. For something that's noticeable 3 seconds into the menu (and THE most basic option on a PC game) to release in a broken state is beyond shameful. I shudder to think what the rest of that person's "work" looks like.

That's the problem with the world today - everybody half asses everything. Nobody takes pride in their work. And we're left with fucking messes like this.

I'd have shot the son of a bitch at his desk if he showed that to me and said "we're ready for launch".

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Whereas the game deserve easily 90-95%.

Fix your game before launch for the fucking sake Mad
Seriously these are quite stupid and easily fixed issues.

That crap aside, I'm loving the game. I was pleasantly surprised you could play it in co-op - thought the game type wouldn't allow it, we had a pleasant time playing it with the girlfriend until I... alt-tabbed Laughing
But seems like a fun LEGO game, and it runs smoothly - like it should, but still Razz

Yeah it's been quite a few years now since the initial games came out but I don't think any of the TT Lego games have had mouse support, WSAD is used for movement and then UHJK does various things presumably mapping to ABXY for a gamepad though some other keyboard keys can also be used and while the key binding menu is pretty basic looking you can remap them though some keys will have multiple uses.
(But I guess that beats say Lost Planet 3 where you use E to interact with people, T to interact with objects and P to interact with items, IE different keys for the same "interact" function.)

Unlike the newer engine build used in the Lego Force Awakens game there's no windowed or borderless support either and temporal AA is gone in favor for their earlier FSAA method, this isn't the early AA of the 2000's though but a cheap edge blur effect though this is a port of a WiiU game though from some years ago although it's still DX11 and 64-bit like the four or so newest Lego games instead of DX9 and 32-bit as before. However the API doesn't really matter too much although the levels and environments are now more complex going from the X360 and PS3 console generation to the XBO and PS4 generation.

As for the game itself it still has the same humor and gameplay as usual, making fun of everything and having numerous puns and references just in the initial loading screens alone and then in almost every cutscene or dialogue.

This is also a more original work than taking a existing movie and making it into a Lego themed game although they do borrow a bit from GTA IV and other sandbox games. And yeah collect ALL the studs and bits of lego from breaking down everything you can find, tons of hidden collectibles too in the range of some 300+ or so unlockable characters alone.
(Probably hidden codes for other unlockables too and various cheats.)

Lego Worlds is the newest, I actually don't own that yet as I've been waiting on the early access period to finish and then I missed that completely. Razz

Going by Wikipedia info the release date for LCU was back in 2013 so it's older than I thought it would be, probably not too many changes to the engine aside from ensuring it performs as expected on PS4 and XBO for this re-release so of course they put in some additional work but that means the game followed shortly after Lego Lord of the Rings and probably has much of it's engine code dating back to then too. Smile

Doesn't really mean much but for PC that game was the first game showing signs of TT using DX11 but I believe it was still 32-bit and then Lego Marvel made the switch to 64-bit and full DX11 replacement. (I think that was the game that followed Lego LOTR, I could be wrong though since these are on a almost yearly release.)

Also as I remember it the Lego LOTR game only had DX11 added to it in one of it's last updates for the game but that new exe wasn't functional since they didn't include a compatible Steam_api.dll file for it.

EDIT:
I'm not all that good at explaining but just looking at the screens shows that there's a bit of a difference between Lego City Undercover and in this case Lego (Star Wars) Force Awakened from shading to shadowing and overall lighting.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/578330/screenshots/?p=1&browsefilter=toprated

http://steamcommunity.com/app/438640/screenshots/?p=1&browsefilter=toprated

But that has nothing to do with input support although it can explain the lack of certain settings and issues with windowed support and features such as alt-tab compatibility.

Lego Worlds also started out on early access and being developed on PC likely made support for mouse and keyboard input a bigger priority than with these other Lego games being simultaneous multi-platform releases but it shows that TT is improving. Smile

Although how supported Lego City Undercover will be remains to be seen, adding windowed support would help and fixing alt-tab would definitively be a good thing since as of D3D9Ex and then D3D10 and newer it really shouldn't be a problem but just because Microsoft has guidelines for how to implement D3D10+ doesn't mean it's always followed, people like Durante and Kaldaien have explained that in better detail for the work they've done with several poorly ported PC games having to fix all sorts of broken functionality in the process. Very Happy

Ah just when I added in a bit about that being a strange issue they go and fix it, nice. Smile

EDIT: Nice to see them taking quick action too, none of this waiting for some certification process to allow a simultaneous update release on all platforms or taking forever to fix some single but major issue.

You can now, before the update (And with the unpatched current cracked version.) you couldn't go down and hit the apply button, most other settings apply from just going back but resolution had to be confirmed to set correctly or it would just change back, thus why editing the config file was used as a workaround. Smile
(That and it really should have used the reported desktop resolution or at worst the reported max supported GPU resolution and not some hard-set 1280x720 res, ha ha.)
