It is a good idea to have funds in other currency/countries and to own property in a couple of other countries. Like New Zealand, northern England, Japan. And just before/when the shit hits the fan you charter a flight there. Or if you don't want to depend on a pilot and crew or engineers in a time of need, then you need an ocean-faring yacht/boat. And depending on the type it can be stocked with a LOT of supplies. You can take lessons to be a captain of this class of boats, easier than learning to fly a private plane. The bunker with the mercenary guards is a stupid idea. These fellows will look after themselves and their families, they won't drive in and stand guard for your rich ass when society crumbles

I can't afford to move out of the country or own a yacht, I'll have to stay here and defend my house until order is restored. If it's never restored I'll join whatever gang or militia forms in the area.

I think people underestimate how resilient an army can be in some countries. You think the US army will evaporate if a disaster hits or society breaks down? An army does not break down, in fact there will be martial law and members of militias will be rolled over by tanks and hung from trees.

People will probably have to form militias for protection anyway, the military can't be everywhere at once. It's going to be chaos in the big cities when the power goes out. There will be large groups of people who never bothered preparing for a disaster and are suddenly faced with the reality that their monthly food stamps aren't going to be coming in.
