I'm sorry for this attention-grabbing title, but didn't anyone notice that smoking is always put forward as something cool or "just happening"?
Always in those situations "regular" smokers do smoke?
Like dinners, when drinking, when stressed, when waiting.
Did you ever notice, in movies, series, or such, how gratuitous smoking was?
Please tell me how you feel about it.
IMO:
It adds litteraly nothing to the caracters, or their story, and it's all about advertising something that they can't legaly advertise anymore.
I'm a smoker (well, e-smoker actually, so yes, I suck off a robot), I just think that this dying industry is looking for exposure in any way it can, and I want to have your say on it.
Thanks!

I did watch The Mask the other day and noticed it, I commented to someone that it's not something you see as much anymore... |
Ok, one that just came to mind: This FUCKING HUGE Lucky Strike sign at the end of the boardwalk in, well, Boardwalk Empire.
The fact that, in pretty much any season of any show, you got smokers for no reason?
It's not even era based, and they add those "shwoo pschtt"-sounds everytime someone lights one up?
I smoked a lot in my life, and I never heard that fucking sound.

Smoking can give a scene more character. Or give a character more depth.
How would the interrogation scene at the start of Blade Runner be without the heavy smoking? How would Tony Montana be without holding a cigar like a badass? And what about the scene in True Romance where Dennis Hopper decides to get the other guy to shoot him, so he can avoid torture and not reveal the couple's location? (He asks for a Chesterfield cigarette before that epic bait tirade) And Arnold without a cigar in Predator? And Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct without smoking?
Duuuude.
