Well Ryse looked good but yeah the gameplay was very simplistic even for a arcade brawler.

yep. I feel bad for people losing jobs. but one trip down memory lane, and I see Ryse, the "game" that insulted my intelligence in ways no other game before or since has done, and suddenly, my compassion fizzes out. | Just remember that that was "a cevat derpli game" before you start blaming the poor employees... at least the ones unrelated with the "gameplay"

I mean what fucking idiot would continue working for a company after month or two without getting paid?
I certainly said fuck to the guy who did not paid me after 1 month and found something else

Not sure, but i read a few times in the past that the being a dev in the gaming industry is rather harsh, and many people (forcibly have to) change their company relative often.
My guess is, that they still hoped for a better future at Crytek, or were already looking for other jobs meanwhile, yet found nothing.

Ye, this comes out every now and then for the past 2 years. Never seen evidence from anyone that he/she/they work for Crytek though. The CEO confirmed some payment delay before but the employees should know what to do by now and asking for advice in reddit and imgur is retarded.

Most of the german devs are kind of dead. Same goes for a lot of publishers. Finding work in the industry, while still remaining in Germany it doesn't seem to be possible. Piranha and Daedalic do not hire in large numbers or unless absolutely necessary. So many people feel trapped. Also many people are not exactly law savvy, nor have the common sense to consult a lawyer.
If i am not paid one month, i might get by, but i would be looking for a new job. If the situation repeats, than i can walk without worries and the employer can't do anything. He will still owe me my pay, but i can leave the company because they've breached the employment contract and they did not pay.

great time to become unemployed, while people fatten up on food and praise consumerism... and of course, the suits on top all unaffected, just the minions will feel the axe.

These mofos had the whole PC crowd by the balls so much that Crysis had become a meme and a killer app.
And they went the console road, fuck off cunts. For a FPS game? Fuck off, I say. Crysis 2 was a regression!

Going console was never really their problem (regardless of what you think of the quality of their games). The problem was their massive over-expansion. They grew to, what? Half a dozen - or more - different studios across the world? That's fucking retarded. A single developer was never going to be able to sustain that, even if they were pumping out the best games in the world. That's massive AAA publisher, EA or Activision level stuff.

Yeah when they got competitive with Cry-EngineV UE4 was already established and had a growing marketplace and very active community which Crytek tried to copy by also altering their pricing of the engine and opening up more of the source code but it was a bit too late.
(Wonder if their marketplace for CryEngine assets is still mostly minor things like ready-made editor materials and stuff from Crytek themselves?)
Unity technically stands above both with how many indie developers are using it though Epic is likely doing pretty well even if it's not the same as the UE3.x adaption.
CryEngine is like what? Kingdom Come trilogy with the first part still not released and it might still be on 3.x instead of V and then there's Wolcen in early access churning out new builds but who knows when the game itself will be finished and beyond that it's some smaller indie titles like Cursed Forest (The first to update to CryEngine V after months of work.) but most of those are pretty low profile or how to say.
(MMO market isn't very active with newer CryEngine builds either far as I know.)
Though far as "AAA" publishers go most have their own in-house engine these days, which well their deal with Zeni and Bethesda kinda fucked over idTech from ever establishing itself again though there's not really much left of the original id team either by now but they seem to be doing OK even if maybe they're not too thrilled on being stuck with Zenimax.
(Dice did a pretty good job with EA getting Frostbite to be so flexible so now most EA studios seem to have that even if Battlefield itself might have had it's ups and downs.)

Crytek will now refocus on it's core strengths - developing innovative games and game-development technology
| Quote: | Frankfurt am Main (Germany) December 20, 2016 – Crytek today outlined a series of changes to its future business plans that will see the company refocus on its core strengths of developing innovative games and game-development technology.
As part of the changes, Crytek will concentrate on development in its Frankfurt and Kiev studios and continue to develop and work on premium IPs. CRYENGINE will remain a core pillar of Crytek’s overall strategy, with enterprise licensees and indie developers alike continuing to be served by regular engine updates. All other development studios will not remain within Crytek and management has put plans into action to secure jobs and to ensure a smooth transition and stable future.
Crytek Co-Founder and Managing Director, Avni Yerli, said: “Undergoing such transitions is far from easy, and we’d like to sincerely thank each and every staff member – past and present – for their hard work and commitment to Crytek. These changes are part of the essential steps we are taking to ensure Crytek is a healthy and sustainable business moving forward that can continue to attract and nurture our industry’s top talent. The reasons for this have been communicated internally along the way. Our focus now lies entirely on the core strengths that have always defined Crytek – world-class developers, state-of-the-art technology and innovative game development, and we believe that going through this challenging process will make us a more agile, viable, and attractive studio, primed for future success.” |
