But but people here are so hardcore Very Happy

Seriously, when playing this I was constantly thinking "damn thats a great game design" when they introduced new mechanics and so on. Every level is different, every boss is little bit different, they clearly communicate every mechanic, it just flows perfectly. Casual button mashing in modern games got me lazy and the difficulty curve in shovel knight seemed to be growing rather fast after some first levels but then I just bought better items and figured out better power-up combinations.

At the end there were some "fuck it" moments but ultimately it just made me feel great after finally beating particular moment, such satisfacting feeling which is almost non existent in AAA titles nowadays.

It was the perfect 80s style superhard but intensely rewarding action platformer like Mega Man, Contra and Green Beret (Rush 'n Attack outside UK) Smile

Because platformers Vomit

I liked platformers back in NES era, and I don't feel any nostalgia to those games Razz

I think I started JRpgs at the age of 7-8 and I never looked back into platformers.

I love 2d platformers, and this is by far the best one to come out in years. I try a lot of them, but none come close to the perfect mix of good controls, perfect difficulty curve and awesome music and visuals that this has.

If anyone has any recommendations for other good platformers that came out recently, while we wait for this expansion, I'm all ears Laughing (been enjoying "Odallus - the dark call" lately, until an update came out and made the game not start anymore -_-)

You've probably already played all of these (sorry in advance if you did!), but some recommendations that aren't too "old" in my opinion could be: Castle In The Darkness, Giana Sisters: TD, Rogue Legacy, Ori and The Blind Forest, Guacamelee and the recent Rayman games. La Mulana Remake and Volgarr the Viking too if you like to suffer a bit. Razz (There are surely many more that I either forgot or simply haven't played yet).

Don't forget the Shantae games either, they're surprisingly fun! Smile Sadly only #2, 3 and upcoming 4 are on PC, the original was a Gameboy Colour game and hasn't been re-released/ported. Still;

Shantae & Risky's Revenge
Shantae & The Pirate's Curse

Thanks for the suggestions, will check some out, though as you've correctly guessed I've tried lots of them. Actually playing volgarr at the moment, but fuck me... being expected to go through what is basically an entire level unscathed and then fight a boss on top of that is driving me insane, I'm still stuck at the second boss, I'm never alive for long enough to learn his patterns Very Happy

http://yachtclubgames.com/2016/06/the-return-of-specter-knight-and-a-revitalizing-announcement/
tldr version
Quote:
We’re working on two new campaigns: Specter Knight and King Knight.
Campaigns will not be releasing at the same time. Specter Knight will be released first!
No estimated release date for any Update quite yet.
Similar to our last update, we’ll probably go overboard too. Hey! Maybe that’s why we’re called Yacht Club Games!
New campaigns will come with new Feats and Challenges for the new campaign character!
We’re also working on two new modes: Body Swap and Battle Mode!
Just like Plague of Shadows releasing with Challenge Mode, we’re planning to release one of these new modes alongside each campaign.
Battle Mode is being designed as a single screen, multiple controller, multiplayer mode and is currently not planned to arrive on handheld versions of the game. We’ll be sure to announce if there are any changes on that front.
Much like Plague of Shadows, all of the announced upcoming Shovel Knight content will be free on ALL platforms! For disc/cart and digital versions!

@The_Leaf A late reply to your request, but you should play Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight if you haven't already. And yeah, Odallus is awesome!

As for the update, it's insane to me that they're doing this, but bless them for being so awesome. They didn't have to keep making content for this and yet they did and they're giving it for free?! Cool!

What Game Should Yacht Club Make Next!
We’re always kicking around ideas for what kind of games we’d want to make one day! What would you like to see us tackle next? Do you want more Shovel Knight, or something new? Games are complex creations with many elements...so we’re just going to cleverly collapse these down to something you might already know!

Note: All games would be in a retro graphical style, similar to Shovel Knight.
Note2: This is a suggestion poll to help us see what you might be excited to see!

  • Shovel Knight 2! *
A sequel to Shovel Knight, with everything you loved about the first game, incremental gameplay changes, and a cool new cast of characters!
  • Shovel Knight and Shield Knight! *
Multiplayer-only side-scrolling platforming prequel where all levels are traversed cooperatively. Play the entire game with a friend, maybe even online!
  • Shovel Kart! *
Classic mode 7 style racing featuring the cast of Shovel Knight in unique vehicles, racing with power-ups and wacky situations. Including battle modes!
  • A Mega Man! *
Side-scrolling platformer about jumping and shooting, with creative platforming, unique bosses, and weapon upgrades, and some degree of nonlinearity.
  • A Metroid! *
Thematically cohesive side-scrolling platformer/shooter with an interconnected map, stuffed with secrets and gated by mobility items!
  • A Mario! *
Pure and whimsical sidescrolling platformer with short but creative courses that explore unique concepts, fun and useful powerups, and multiplayer!
  • A Zelda! *
Top-down action adventure game where you explore an overworld finding dungeons and secrets, battling foes, and creatively using gameplay items!
  • A Spelunky! *
Precise action game (top-down or side-scrolling) with randomized level designs, powerups and bosses, and permadeath. And multiplayer!
  • A Final Fantasy / Dragon Quest! *
Sweeping story-based game with many memorable characters and situations, equipment and classes, and a menu-driven battle system.
  • A Mario RPG! *
A sweeping story-based game with humorous situations and characters, and an overworld and battle system featuring some real-time action elements.
  • A Contra! *
A balls-to-the-wall side-scrolling action game with platforming, tons of enemies, power ups, and bosses galore! And multiplayer!
  • A Landstalker / Solstice! *
    An isometric action adventure.

In the spring, we will be raising the price of Shovel Knight. If you haven’t picked up Shovel Knight yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this Spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price!
