I'll check on Steam link forum and try to get it before sale ends.

Thank you.

Sales of the controller will have doubled by early 2017 (compared to early Summer 2016).

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/283221/Nearing_1M_sold_Valve_incentivizes_Steam_Controller_support.php

Quote:
At Steam Dev Days in Seattle this afternoon, Valve’s Jeff Bellinghausen revealed strong sales for the company’s unique Steam Controller, and potential perks for developers who support it.

"We announced in June that we had sold 500,000 controllers,” he said, “and we’re now on track to sell a million by early next year.” The controller originally launched in November 2015.

So a new feature that’s coming is support in the Steam Controller API for other game controllers. The first one up is the PS4 controller.

Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it’s exactly the same as a Steam Controller. You make the exact same API calls, you only get actions, not inputs, and the Steam API takes care of everything.

New Samsung TVs will include Steam Link integration

Quote:
Valve announced today that the company’s Steam Link PC streaming tool will be integrated directly into new Samsung televisions. Steam Link allows users to stream gameplay from a PC to other devices, allowing players access to their Steam game library without directly connecting their computer to a TV.

This inclusion seems to imply that gaming is becoming more and more of a priorty for Samsung. Last year the company announced that some smart TVs would have access to Sony's PlayStation Now streaming library.

With this latest announcement, Samsung TV owners will be able to access both PlayStation and Steam games directly from their smart TVs without having to bother with external devices.

Integrating Steam Link directly into new Samsung TVs eliminates the need to buy the $49 adapter currently on the market, but will still require players to have access to a controller and a computer capable of running the games.

bump.
Ordered Steam Controller and Link.
the main idea by ordering this is so I can minimize big picture or launch media player classic in big picture and watch on tv. And steam controller would be my "remote" so I don't have to et up to keyboard to pause or load subtitles. So it seems like fantastic solution for older non smart tvs. I've not received it yet so I can't say for sure (3rd day "shipping soon" status).
Since ordering I've watched a few videos on steam controller and it actually seems really interesting.
Is anyone using it besides novelty gadget ?

Seems like most overlooked features are "Gyro" and "rotation" of right pad so it doesn't drift up or down when swiping... at least this is info I found when looking for configuration tips on reddit and neogaf (the have huge topic).

It will probably only end up as my new "tv remote" but what is general consensus on this? Are peoples till buying this or did it flopped ?

In regards to sales: by June (now last year) Valve reportedly sold half a million of them and by October it was nearly a million. Hard to say how much of a success it is - depends on what your benchmark is.

As far as opinions go - there is no consensus. Some people love it, some people hate it.
It's the best controller for a "tinkerer". You only get the best from it if you take your time and set up all the controls. You could find some great community configs, but the current system in Steam is pretty bad - you can't really know if a config is good or not (there is no rating, no comments, etc).
If you do take your time, there is a huge amount of options there. It is my TV "remote" and my main game controller and I can't see myself "downgrading" to any of the standard ones after this.

If you want to just pick up and play, or use it as a standard gamepad with a touchpad instead of a stick you will probably not like it. Aside from touchpad not being the best substitute for a stick in some situations, the first thing to feel wrong are the face buttons (a/b/x/y) - they are smaller and placed closer together than on other controllers. Missing the correct button during gameplay is pretty common in the early days of use (though truth is, almost every good config relegates these buttons to secondary status you don't use them nearly as much as with other controllers in games).

With features... I am not sure how overlooked the gyro is these days, since it's the first thing everyone recommends to use (and it is really good - it's the thing that makes it viable as a mouse replacement, really).
Other than that, there's just too many. They have added some big features since launch, like action sets and activators which have greatly expanded configuration options.

It's not without some issues. Software can be glitchy sometimes and a common hardware quirk is gyro drift - your cursor starts moving in one direction on its own. Some people don't get that one at all, some had it frequently enough that they had to return the controller. I get it once every few days maybe - depends on usage.

I was not aware steam controller have any "motion controlls" at all until I started looking for it's features. they should advertise it better. It seems like useful option.

that way or another, I am super curious and yes - i understand there is some tinkering involved.

I ordered myself a steam controller aswell, if just for tinkering and maybe playing some civ on the big screen.

Steam-link seems useless to me since I have a Nuc that does in-home streaming.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I mentioned in another thread that I have been using the Steam Controller as my sole controller for over a year now. It was difficult to get used to at first, but now I like it much better than a traditional controller.

Steam Controller
Quote:
Added XBox 360, Xbox One, and Generic X-Input controller configurator support. This allows all recognized controller types to use the advanced mapping features of the Steam Controller Configurator. Note that because X-Input currently lacks per-controller means of unique identification, all controllers of that type will share personalization and configuration settings. As they share the same inputs, Xbox 360/One/Generic controllers will all see each-others configurations when browsing. Automatic conversion will be attempted when loading configurations from other controller types.

Just got the link and controller.
Boh packaged super nicely and bulit like tanks. Love the quality.

Not used link yet but controller is mind blowing even though I've not played any game yet.
The haptic and feel of going over buttons on steam keyboard is super weird. The mouse floats better than on any trackpad I've ever used and gyro is like magic.

Even scroll wheel which is left trackpad gives that tactile feel of click between each step of the "wheel"

This thing have some options. And nowhere I've found any info that this thing has speaker inside. cool

Yes. It's quite limited on what sounds it can produce, but people still had some fun with it. Like:

Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.6 GHz | Asus Z170 Pro Gaming | Corsair Vengenace LPX 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz | MSI GeForce GTX 1080 FE | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB + 250 GB | EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 | Fractal Design Define R5 | Noctua NH-D14
