The game takes place a few years after a pogrom in a city (Which I forgot the name of already.) where Geralt and a few others were although the books continue on after these events for several years as I understood it whereas the games are non-canonical and follow their own path, I forgot exactly how many years it's been since then but Ciri was reportedly 15 or 16 and now she's probably 20 something as of Witcher 3 so around 5 years or a bit more?
(Witcher 1 is three years or so from that fateful event and then one more year for Witcher 2 and another year for Witcher 3 I'm not entirely sure it could be more.)

EDIT: Also Geralt probably forced Triss to use a bit of her magic since he looked decidedly less handsome in the first game. Razz
(Well according to US/Hollywood standards at least, apparently it was a fairly good Slavic appearance as I read from well I have no idea.)

(Game balance wise I suppose this is required but I also found it fairly hilarious how the best weapons and armor from Witcher 1 when imported into Witcher 2 turned out to be fairly shit.)

(Also Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 really nerfed silver sword effectiveness on humans whereas Witcher 1 had it only do less damage but it is still a sword only with a silver finish and a bit smaller so it was still serviceable even if not ideal, similarly monsters were wounded by steel although a bit resistant though still fairly killable until you ran into the bigger ones.)

Just finished the first TW book (in chronological order)

It's nice knowing about Nenneke, how he met Yennefer (the hunchback Shifty Fellar ) and Dandelion

Is there a point where the game and books split off from one another? Does the game reside between any of them?

I'm reading the books as well. The first two books are a series of stories that flesh out the world while the others really are full novels but the last Witcher novel was published in 1999 so a long time before the games.

I'm halfway through Blood of Elves but from what I understand, the games come after the books that were written at the time. The author doesn't really value games and refuses to consider any of the games canonical (in fact he was pretty much a big asshole about it from the interviews I read) despite them having made him a ton of money since few people heard about The Witcher outside of Poland before the games became popular.

Because of that, I'd say: read the novels, play the games and ignore new novels written by the author because it will just screw with your view of the Witcher world.

Can't be easy to pack a triangular box nicely along with all the other normal square ones. Razz

Metal would be nicer though but I guess that's not used that often, I only really have the one from Stalker. Razz

EDIT: Why is the Tri-Force there?

No pictures (yet) but I decided to find excellent-condition Nintendo handhelds and collect for those, along with the Everdrive cartridges. I may expand it to other brands too (I do have a PSP and PS Vita already, both in great shape)

I got lucky and found a very very good condition Gameboy (original) for a mere €40 - besides the screen having some minor scratches, it looks like it barely got used. The Tetris cartridge that comes with, it looks brand new too. For a moment I thought it was a reproduction but it's not - I compared it to my old battered one and it's identical except in great shape.

Next is finding a Gameboy Advance (not the shitty SP one - hate the shape and feel in my hands) in great shape too. So far, not much luck - seems the SPs are easy to find but the regular GBA's aren't sold much for some reason or in poor shape (like missing battery lid). My old Purple one I love but it's seen better days.

Not planning to collect the games really - Americans have it easy but in Europe, most of the Gameboy games are language-specific so you end up with French, Italian, German, etc versions. Evil or Very Mad
