Gave it a whirl and the first thing that hit me was the FOV. You would think after the shitstorm back in '07 they would at least fix that. Enhanced FOV, lol.

Now that BioShock: The Collection is here, we thought it might be interesting to revisit the original game's troubled development. Enjoy!
25th January 2007 was a cold day, even by the harsh standards of a Boston winter. That morning, a dozen senior members of BioShock's beleaguered development team shuffled into a hidden room in the centre of the city, and stood to face a pane of one-way glass. As a huddle of strangers entered the adjacent room, unaware that they were being watched, the team from Irrational Games fell silent. After five years of arduous development, during which time the game's setting had shifted from an abandoned space station overrun with alien eels to a deep sea utopia project gone wrong, the team was about to see whether all of the toil, all of the late nights and all of the seven-day weeks had been worth the effort.
Ken Levine, the game's creative director, held a clipboard that listed the strangers' names and their vocations (all of whom were in their twenties). Security guard, construction contractor: these were blue-collar video game players. Through the glass, Levine and his team watched as each person sat down at one of the various television sets arranged around the room and played the game. They began at the very start: a plane crash over the ocean. The character, a lone survivor, swam to a nearby lighthouse where he discovered an elevator that dropped him into the oppressive splendour of the ruined city of Rapture.
Someone tell me if at least they restored the vending machine sounds ("Welcome to the Circus of Value!" etc) in BS2 because from what I have read so far this release should get the Facepalm of the Year award. But if at the very least they fixed that, then they would have gotten at least 1 thing right.
I need to offer a bit of an apology. There was a question about a month ago on whether the vending machine voices would be returning in Bioshock 2. I answered an emphatic "Yes" because they had indeed been in the game and working just fine for most of production.
It seems like something happened during the final scramble to get the game shipped that turned off the vending machine voices. I don't know quite what broke along the way yet, we are still trying to figure that out. The bottom line is that they are not in the shipped version of the game.
In the grand scheme of things, I know this isn't a huge issue but it is one that I take seriously. I am pretty embarrassed by this and really apologize to you fans as I know how much that it is little things like that really bring Rapture to life. The world of Bioshock is certainly a little less colorful without them. This issue slipped by a lot of people as the game went out the door but ultimately the responsibility here lays with me.

Hey guys and gals,
Just a quick update - our intrepid audio programmer Guy (who really does need to get a lot of credit for the quality of the audio in the game as well) managed to track down the problem. It seems some files got moved around at the last minute in order to solve one problem, but ended up causing this one. It probably got missed because, hey, the darned things were working fine for a year and a half, why would they stop working now?
There are a lot of hoops that need to be lit on fire and jumped through before a patch can go out so it might be a while - I'll let you guys know when this fix might be available. And we are still looking at other issues that have been cropping up.
Again, I do apologize for this. Thanks for your understanding.

As for the vending machines, as I have explained in other threads, it is a bug and will be fixed in the future.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Thanks for being patient and cool about this. I know some of you are frustrated but believe me, none of you are as frustrated as I am with this problem. The patch that went out recently was addressing mostly pc performance issues and had been in the works for some time.
Like I said earlier, getting a patch together takes awhile. It has to go through Microsoft and Sony first. Plus, we want a patch to be able to address a number of issues at once and we are still sorting some of those other issues (like the music bug in Pauper's Drop - grrr ).
Hang tight, a fix will be available at some point, but it's out of my hands when exactly that will be.
After that they decided to never talk about it again as if it hadn't happened

"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Probably moved on to DLC, takes time to go through Q&A with MS and Sony too I believe and the PC version also used LIVE at that point so probably planned to have fewer patches but more extensive instead of small hotfixes and whatnot though something seems to have happened. (Going for DLC if the publisher is pressing for that or just stopping support due to low sales perhaps.)
...And then they announced several pieces of DLC wouldn't be releasing on PC.

Having VSync enabled helped me more that if it was disabled.
One reason for once is the obvious frame limiting, so my GPU doesn't end in a fallout in some games.
But several times it also reduced/removed the stuttering i had in games and gave me a perfectly looking game. (Warframe and Division come to mind)
// Also when i tried the BS1 remaster, i had VSync on and ingame mouse movement set to 1 (not 0). It was just fine like that and i had no strange movement oder acceleration anymore.
I don't know why people have problem with this remaster. Sure it would have been better if they include much more in it, but so far its okay for me. Nice sharp textures (although they left some untouched), no performance issues. I've only started playing through Bio2 since thats the one I've played less and even though the 2nd one is a bit weaker it still reminds me how shitty Infinite is.
Decided to use lumasharpen since the textures are still "hidden" by the game's smudge filter (wonder if it was more of an "art" choice than a limitation to hide low quality textures back then...) and well, now I can see where the ~2.5GB in VRAM the game eats up are going to

I used to have major mouse slow down in Skyrim with VSYNC turned on. Then I bought my Gsync 144Hz screen and the slow down is gone so it the response seems tied to the Hz of your screen?

Maybe it's because you have Gsync monitor and don't need to have Vsync on?

Nah, it's on. I always had it off for Skyrim because of the slow down and because physics are tied to fps, it would result in stuff flying through rooms when I entered a house + the intro would often break because of the horse being tied to physics in some ways so the difference is very very clear when it's turned on.
Full game finished. Not a single crash and only one visual glitch (the red glitch in the reflection already posted). When I first played this on release that final boss took me forever to beat because I had no ammo or health. This time I did in 2 minutes with a grenade launcher.
Also, was new game+ in the original release?

2K Games has revealed a list of what it will address in the first patch for BioShock Remastered and BioShock 2 Remastered. According to the company, improved FOV sliders will be added to both of these remasters, as well as support for 21:9 display monitors.
What’s really interesting is that the team will further improve mouse controls in the first BioShock game by adding better Mouse Smoothing, Sensitivity and Acceleration options. Ironically, there is no mention at all – regarding better mouse controls – for BioShock 2.
Even though there isn’t any ETA as of yet for these updates, you can read below the issues that the development team aims to address:
General Mouse Fixes, including better Mouse Smoothing, Sensitivity and Acceleration Options in BioShock;
Additional Speaker Mode Options in Audio Settings in BioShock;
Improved FoV Slider Options in BioShock, BioShock 2 and Minerva’s Den;
Support for 21:9 display ratios in BioShock, BioShock 2 and Minerva’s Den;
General stability improvement to reduce instances of game crashes.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
