Wow, the additions are staggering. When the Guide and the Merchant started playing rock-paper-scissors, I knew this is the update that will kill another 300 hours of my free time.
But you don't have to, most players of Terraria start anew every update anyway. You can take things you already got (good gear and so on) into your new world to have a headstart.
It's amazing, finding all the new stuff and it's not even 4% of all.
It's huge fun, totally addicted. They have released three hotfixes already and even introduced a community suggestion (left-click moved to trash, now it moves into chests!) that has been wanted by a lot of people for ages
Though the crafting part still is annoying. They put some button in it now, so you see more recipes in a grid view. But when you click on an item, it just selects the item in the list view, while the grid view gets closed. Would be better, if you could see the needed ressources for crafting on mouseover, and a left click would actually start the crafting.

Nahh man that's old, been there since 1.2 at least. I can see the annoyance of it not crafting right away though (sometimes you craft something that you didn't want and it's wasted).

Meh, who cares about Terraria anymore with Starbound 1.0 out soon.
A lot of people, obviously not you, then again, why would you post here then?
The Devs have been adding so much to the game, you may enjoy getting a "slice" (Hitman) of content each time, instead of a full product, others don't. I didn't post this for you, so don't even feel entitled to go "meh".

A new weather event has been added, sandstorms! With it come new enemies, new loot, a new soundtrack, and a unique experience in the desert biome!
Blizzards now have a new visual effect
Deserts and the Underworld now have a heat distortion visual effect.
Dripping sand effects can be found in the desert, and placed anywhere by the player with the Magic Sand Dropper!
Of course it's as big as the previous "mechanic" update. But still.
I tried it, i think its the combat, it feels totally worst than Terraria's. Ill try it AGAIN, but jesus fucking christ the combat is so weird.
That's the sole reason I don't play it. Combat is funky as hell and the way the mouse dictates the direction you walk and fight kills it for me, where as in Terraria you just use your move left or right keys to face in that direction
Super Terraria World is a standalone RPG mod for Terraria.
It adds Skills, Quests, NPCs, Items, new gameplay, and more, all bundled into expansive, masterfully crafted, hand-made worlds.
We are currently in Alpha, and are hard at work improving the game for MMO capability.
1.3.4, is now live! This update opens the portal between Terraria and Etheria, bringing the Dungeon Defenders 2 cross over content, including a new NPC, enemies, weapons, and more! We've also introduced the ability to toggle on/off the visual effects and new water visuals created with community suggestions and feedback. You can check out the for a complete list of additions and new features.
Side note: you do NOT need to make a new world to access any of this content!
Terraria has sold over 20m copies With 8.5m of those in the past 18 months.
Quote:
While Terraria's been around since May 2011 on PC, the game's scope has grown such that it still amassed 8.5m of those sales in the last 18 months (since version 1.3 launched on PC).
One reason for this is that Terraria has expanded to be on a tonne of platforms. These days you can acquire the mining and crafting game on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, Vita, PS4, 3DS, Wii U, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Amazon mobile devices, in addition to the usual PC/Mac/Linux versions.
The other reason Terraria's had such a strong tail is that Re-Logic has added loads of new content since its initial launch. To wit: in May 2011 Terraria only had about 250 items, six NPCs, 20 enemies, three bosses, and 10 biomes. The Terraria of 2017 now has 3800 items, 25 NPCs, 350 enemies, 16 bosses, and 27 biomes (at least on PC).
Clearly sticking with the game rather than moving on to a new project worked out well for Re-Logic.
The developer noted in its announcement that the console versions of Terraria's 1.3 update are "just around the corner" with the mobile versions coming after that.
Currently playing it modded with Spirit, Thorium and Kalciphoz's RPG Mod. Seems to be a pretty popular mix.
Got to say the game got pretty boring when you are bombarded with cool new weapons all the time, and it feels like i'm in god mode due to the leveling. Not sure what people see in this.
Are there any mods that adds something that at least resembles structures? I mean you can sometimes run into super tiny structures underground, i want larger ones. The above "Super Terraria World" did look impressive, not sure if that's player made content or what it is showing really..
