To be honest, as much as I like their games, I feel like Cyberpunk is a much better fit for CDPR's brand of storytelling than Star Wars could ever be. I do think they could make a wonderful SW game if they really wanted to - I suppose these guys are skillful enough to pull anything off - but I kinda feel the somewhat heroic, fairy-tale or, well, childish nature of the setting (it really is somewhat childish, as much as I love it, it is) would limit them heavily. Obsidian already stretched the franchise as far as it could go with Kotor 2 and CDPR are much more ambitious an bold nowadays. Trying to fit something like Hearts of Stone into Star Wars framework... it just doesn't fit. Too rich, too real, too deep.
I actually feel like Bioware - even in their current form - could be a good fit for a new SW RPG. Their stories are simple, but not necesarilly bad - Inqusition suffered more from its gameplay drawbacks than its storytelling. Their writing is also full of pathos, which seems an integral part of Star Wars. I've just recently played TOR's Knights of the Fallen Empire and it's honestly quite good. Very star warsy but fresh at the same time.
If there's one setting I would really wish CDPR to try it's World of Darkness.

Amy Hennig Discusses New Star Wars Game, It Sounds Like Uncharted
"There's humor and buoyancy but at the same time there's stakes and jeopardy."
| Quote: | Amy Hennig, writer of the first three Uncharted games and currently creative director on EA and Visceral Games' Star Wars title, has discussed her process for creating a brand new story set in the beloved sci-fi universe.
Speaking during a panel at Star Wars Celebration, Hennig explained that her process involved deconstructing the movies and understanding how they could be adapted to video games. This, Hennig added, was the same method she used when working on Uncharted while at Naughty Dog.
"The reason [we're collaborating with Lucasfilm so closely is] we're writing an original Star Wars story with new characters, locations, tech, creatures, you name it. All of it has to sit authentically alongside the stuff people know now," she said.
"The process that I've been using is really similar to what I did with Uncharted, to be honest. If you're trying to re-create that classic--in [Uncharted's] case--pulp action adventure experience, you need to deconstruct the films so you know how to reconstruct them in an interactive context as gameplay."
She continued: "The end goal is by the time the player has finished playing they feel like they really did play a Star Wars film. So I've done the same thing for Star Wars. What does that mean? It's getting the structure right. It means you have to understand where the act breaks fall, where all the obstacles and reversals fall, and the set-pieces. [You need to know] what are all the component parts that make up a Star Wars story." |

She mentioned while that while she couldn't reveal much, she did say that they put details in the pictures they released that would give hints about the game.

Don't think so, after the uproar of cancelling 1313 they will make something similar. The comments mentioned Uncharted, I can see this becoming a clone of it just in the SW universe.
Nice Avatar toni.

The only way to have a proper Star Wars* action game these days is to head to Santa Monica, liberate the Raven Software men from Activision's slavery, and make them start a fresh Kickstarter with no nextgen gimmicks/cinematic derp-o-rama's whatsoever.
*..ish, we'll just call it Star Swords, because damned EA owns everything

Reading the name Obsidian in the same sentence with Star Wars gave me an accidental boner even if this has nothing to do with anything
(Then I glanced at the thread's title eagain, to feel even worse)

Actually, If you look at the gap between ROTJ and TFA, it's been 20 years. I imagine the goings on in Kyle's world could thoretically still happen - Luke wasn't much older, and the original Imperial Remnant was still comprised of 'proper' Stormtroopers. Maybe Kyle will appear in the next SW movie as Luke's mysterious friend

Portal designer Kim Swift joins Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond on Visceral's Star Wars game
| Quote: | Portal lead designer Kim Swift has joined Assassin's Creed executive producer Jade Raymond's new EA studio, Motive, as a design director.
Swift and Raymond will be collaborating with another EA studio, Visceral Games (Dead Space, Battlefield: Hardline), on the still unrevealed Star Wars game being directed by Uncharted creator Amy Hennig.
"We've devoted much of the past year at Motive to building a team of amazingly talented people to work on our new IP and Star Wars projects. I could not be more excited to welcome an all-star like Kim, who shares our enthusiasm for building exceptional games," Raymond said in the company's announcement.
Aside from Portal, Swift has worked on a variety of other games like Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Quantum Conundrum, and Soul Fjord.
Little is known about Visceral's Star Wars game other than it's due in 2018, will likely feature multiple protagonists, and is apparently "in the style of Uncharted", according to that series' star Nolan North. |
