I get the feeling this guy is making a tech showcase instead of a game.

That's a bit how the beta version is, it's gradually expanded in size and in content but it's fairly rough even from going from alpha status to beta so yeah the delay to 2017 for release wasn't too unexpected although it's difficult to say how far behind the public beta builds are from their master version.

A few other recent Cry-Engine developers (Wolcen/Umbra and Cursed Forest) have also slowly been moving towards a Cry-Engine V port from Cry-Engine 3.7.x and 3.8.x so it's possible this game will too, perhaps more so as being a showcase featured in the Cry-Engine V reveal so that might require some work from the developers as well but should ultimately lead to a product better suited to XBO and PS4 and also newer PC tech while adding improvements like Vulkan or DX12 and major code optimizations for features like VXGI/SVOGI or what it was called.
(A bit like UE3.x to UE4.x although porting a UE3 game to UE4 seems to be far more of a challenge compared to Cry-Engine 3.7.x or later to Cry-Engine V though neither is probably as quick as it seems to be from Unity 4.x to 5.x although Unity is a bit lacking in other areas, to put it mildly.)

(Hell even porting UE4.x to the newer UE4.x builds seems to be a challenge which is why games like Ark have remained on relatively older main branches of said engine and then manually merged in code fixes and improvements from newer builds along with their own custom systems.)

EDIT: The game looks pretty and there's a variety of things to do but it's still a ways off until it becomes a complete game or how to say, it also needs a lot of optimization and refinement for stuff like animations and so on.

Still not sure about this one, it looks fine, especially the nature/forest is beautiful, but the fighting still looks a bit awkward.
I know they wanted to go with a some kind of simulation of sword fighting but at this point it does not look realistic and also not very funny. But we will see, not losing hope yet. Smile

i just hope they can nail the combat ... the beta one is very rough and beta still feels like a tech demo , but maybe the feedback from it was one reason for delay

also hope they will don't sacrifice the gameplay too much because of the aim for realism

It's 2016 and the pop-in objects and vegetation is jarring. I can understand Cevat's 'work' being lackluster in this department (also), but at least TRY to trick the mind somehow. Fade that shit out or something...

iirc they didnt even started optimalization in this build ... they want to finetune the basic mec hanics first and than as a last thing will be optimalization
they are apparently even surprised the current build can run above 30fps http://forum.kingdomcomerpg.com/t/performance-issue-with-latests-beta-or-is-this-normal/28657/11

Game still feels clunky and uninteresting, not what I expected at all by this stage

Random gameplay scenes without narration:

I just hope the game will have a good story too.
Because so far all videos are just about random dev work, the combat system, or exploration.

I think I'm supposed to be impressed by their combat system, but I just can't be. Looks so bad. Looks dull and frustrating and worst of all boring.

So has this become more Kingdom Gone than Kingdom Come? I haven't been following much the development.

You have to think of it as some sort of...Field Citizen Cool Face
Similar levels of ambitiousness, same heavily unoptimized engine that doesn't seem to go anywhere, but with this one having more chances of coming to fruition, and not being affected by the insane amount of greed of its interstellar relative (so far).

I believe in Vavra's dream, but extreme patience truly is a major requirement here Very Happy

As I said, going for the "simulation" of the combat is not a best way for this game.
I understand they want to make it as realistic as possible, but its a game ffs, and combat just looks boring and not fun. Confused
It could be a great game otherwise, but I don't see them making any major changes to the combat before the actual release. Sad

Yeah, to me it's like they went full technical with how the moves would be performed but left out the smoothness, showmanship and how flawed a person can be. Which makes it janky robot like.

well its still first beat and lot of a stuff is placeholder , not all weapons are implemented and such ......will reserve my judgement for final version as currently it feels kinda like technical test or something ... and if I can compare the combat in For Honor and what i played from KCD on hussite celebrations (from what they said its from next version) ... KCD's combat is even in this junky state superior to the one in For Honor
but sI just hope they will nail the story and dont go overboard
