and the fact that they are hiring crytek to model the game in super-deformed style...i cant even begin to imagine what it will look like, but the result will be interesting atleast
My interest kind of dropped off quite a bit once I realised that this is going to be a "Tactics" style jRPG The one branch of the genre that I quite simply cannot stand I can count on one hand how many exceptions I've made to that.. and FFT is not one of them :\
i dont like the srpg genre either, except for ff tactics, which is the one perfect game of its genre (especially due to its expansive job system a la ff5).
still, i have high hopes for this one, it could be the next ff tactics.
No, not exactly. As I understood it form their posts and hangover video, it will be similar to Dragon Age - you can pause and shot, howeve,m fighting happens as in Warcraft III - real-time.
the article is right, if this becomes a success, it could mean alot of good things for gaming, i am pretty sceptical, but i choose to be very optimistic
I backed this and at this point I can honestly say I'm highly disappointed with how they've handled their "updates" thus far.
I don't mind hearing about the devs and their background but they need to couple it with some game info. I don't really care if a dev is eating Ruffles right now or not. I really don't.
Such is life for the Kickstarter games and I knew the risks up front. I just expected more (or less BS) at this point.
Probably not the best place to post this aside that I also wanted to hear what others had to say that may have backed this.

Who cares about gameplay. It's one of the few next-gen looking titles out there so BRING IT ON.
$1m raised. Two years since being funded. They don't even have a sodding PROGRAMMER. I'm rapidly starting to think that failed Kickstarters should be treated as fraudulent and that those involved need to start facing jail time, maybe then - and only then - will the restriction of law and penalties start enforcing some goddamn work out of these shysters.
Apologies for the downtime. Between deployments and holidays I have been swamped.
Here are things where they stand now on our programmer front:
I have been asked to clarify that we CURRENTLY have a programmer. He has done some work and much consulting for Project Phoenix already. The problem is that his current work is delaying his full commitment here by about 2 months.
Current estimates place dev at about 2.5 years out from completion. This is 2.5 years from the time we get our full-time programmer on board. That means we are expecting early 2018 for a finalized build and 6 months for testing after that.
We put out the notice that we are looking for programmers to supplement the work our main programmer will be doing, as well as simply getting things started as soon as possible.
On this note, we are reviewing the people who identified themselves to us and we will move forward to interview relevant applicants soon.
In other news:
Music!
One Uematsu theme from the game has been arranged and is pending approval. We hope to include a short video with Nobuo Uematsu in a future update and, in preparation for this, we would like to ask you for any music related questions you would like to ask. We will compile this list, possibly modify the wording, and translate a limited number of questions. Please either sound off in the comments here or message us on KS.
Refunds
We know a lot of people are disappointed with the delays and organization of Project Phoenix. We are not considering refunds at this time. To initiate refunds is to give up on the project since there would be no money left to complete it. If we make the decision to call it quits then we will work out some kind of remediation with backers at that time. Until then we are pressing on.
it's just so when they say they'll cease working on it because the cash ran out, it will look like it ran out because it was spent on development and not on new cars or investments or whatever, so no refunds
This one looked really good, I miss jRPGs on PC. Great news
Dude there a ton of good ones now on PC and more coming do you live behind the moon ?
The future is already here.
Well i like Iffy games (Monster Monpiece is a very fun! strategic card battle game and not a traditional JRPG btw) so that's great news for me they are obviously not for everyone but with all the other japanese company's jumping to steam atm and the games allrdy released there should be something for everyone.
Wow I didn't know programmers were such highly sought out, fabled, magicofantastical creatures! Like unicorns!
Anyway this gave some good laughs and there is some delicious drama incoming since they are playing the long con. So your money isn't really wasted, I am entertained!
My prediction: they want the KS to fund their salaries for a very long time while working very little on the project, after that they simply present a bad/unfinished product and say "sorry, money ran out, we were too ambitious".
ALL HOPE IS NOT LOST?
Only reason I even stumbled upon this again is cause I linked it on Facebook 3 years ago from that previous post and the fancy FB feature that reminds you of all your stupid shit you have posted there did its job.
Why do most Japanese kickstarters fail? Aren't they suppose to be the hardcore workers?
Maybe because on these new projects they have to work with filthy gaijins instead of a honourable, old school bushido codex style, tentacle schoolgirl rape loving, classic japanese-only group.
Calm down guys, we had an ex-employee who it turns out has made a career of sweet-talking his way into jobs he is not qualified for. After causing months of pain for everyone in the office we bit the bullet and bought out his contract. Afterwards I heard from people he worked with in past companies that he has been fired from about 5-7 game companies so far.
After he was let go with a generous severance package (about 3 months salary, money he did not earn by any definition of the word). He then turned around and stopped paying his rent thus trying to extract more money from us. So when he claims Project Phoenix money was used in TINY METAL keep in mind the truth is everyone except him has worked hard and at times with zero pay to be able to get investment for TINY METAL for the exact reason that we never used Project Phoenix money for TINY METAL. In fact other employees lent him money and had their own paychecks delayed so he could be paid on time.
Likewise when he writes "I left" the truth is "I was fired 3 months ago and am only writing these lies now because I want the company I barely contributed to, to pay my rent while I go on holidays to America with my severance package instead of paying the rent I owe".
Not at all from the sounds of things, which lends credibility though the one ex-employee doesn't have much in terms of actual evidence but it seems fairly clear that this projects development has been pretty rough so it wouldn't surprise me if this ends up being mostly accurate.
That Kickstarter update does go into some strange details too so who knows though it wouldn't surprise me if Tiny Metal was made to raise more funds towards Project Phoenix's development if the existing Kickstarter funding has run dry to where they had to rely on other investors.
One of the risks with Kickstarter and not too much protection for the people buying into it either, main reason I've only backed more known developers although even then there's been compromises such as with Wasteland or Divinity having feature cuts or delays plus re-releasing the entire game fixing up things more thoroughly.
