I dont get it, whats with this new thing on youtube of showing random gameplay of some game while talking about totally unrelated topics.
It annoys the crap out of me. People talking about news, or current events, etc. And just playing a video of some random muted volume gameplay.
Like Scarce, not a channel I would watch. But its supposedly the new 'youtube news' channel or such. One of the videos was recommended to me since I watch GradeAUnderA and he was a topic in it. Everyone of his videos is just random gameplay while telling 'news'.
Lots of other channels do it..I dont get it. Why not put some effort into it and actually make the video about WHAT you are talking about? some pics, video clips, whatever..just not you playing BF or CoD, or Overwatch.
Its a VIDEO site, make your video related to your subject. Otherwise why not just have a damn podcast, or something radio like.
Is it just me? Am I the only one that goes "What? Why am I watching you play a FPS in the background? Put some effort into your work geez."

It would bore their target audience my guess if they would do specific items I guess.
Look at twitch: they can talk about anything, no matter how uninteresting, daft or stupid it is... people stay around because there's some game playing in the background (or some cleavage in the front).
But yeah it irritates me when it's just some random shit.
I found it on a recommended video about Boogie's account being gone, and something about GradeAUnderA..didnt even make it to the part I clicked it for.
I thought "Oh cool maybe a channel with decent unbiased internet news".
It might be I dont know, I didn't get far enough into the video to find out..lol
No intro, no nothing. Just right into some FPS game footage and him talking.
2 million subs, unofficially dubbed the "New Youtube News" channel after that DramaAlert crap (I hated that channel).
I actually though I might have clicked the wrong video for the first 5-10 seconds.
Dont get me wrong, I dont expect high quality late night news intro and swipes, and overlays with cutting edge tech digital artist level news graphics, but SOME sort of video clips vaugely related to the topic your currently on.
I genuinely dont get it. Not being snarky, or old and grumpy, I seriously dont get how such low production value (as in just record with fraps and talk over it about news) gets 2 million subs as a news channel.

But if you cant go thru the trouble of trying to obtain usage rights to the things you are talking about, dont try to be a serious online news channel that talks about them My viewpoint anyway.

They do it because they're not charismatic enough to be in front of the camera and to hold your attention. Instead of practicing until they get good at it, they simply record some gameplay footage and add their voice over it. They don't need proper lighting, they don't need to edit themselves, they don't need to put any real effort into it. They just ramble into the mic.
It's also a way to hold the attention of people who always need to see something happening. Who always need some action in front of their eyes. Want to attract people with short attention span? Just play some CSGO while you talk.
It's just a very, very cheap tactic. If they can't put effort in their videos, I don't trust them to put effort in anything else.
