I still hold some, albeit slim, hope that we get a proper open-world sci-fi bounty hunting title. As I said.. slim hope, but hope nonetheless.
Not bad for a Prey game indeed. Using your Walker Texas Ranger Navajo-tuned SUV through the lands to catch alien foes while morphing into a spiritual eagle for, for... you know what for.

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.
Is it just me or did anyone else get some SOMA vibes from that trailer? Not sure why they are re-using the 'Prey' name when it obviously has nothing to do with the original 3Drealms Prey idea. Seems to be more of a System Shock type of game.

There were some leaked design documents awhile back and it was described as a System Shock successor.
So, I just watched the trailer and it looks like it could be really awesome. Yet I only feel disappointment. Give us our Space Bounty Hunter game! Now that old unique concept is but a dream. What a shame.

TBH wouldn't mind.
Original Prey was so long ago that only a percent of people remember it.
The intro of the trailer was boring and expected, but the rest looks great. Expected some real gameplay though. We'll have to wait

Some people at Arkane Austin are upset about this decision, our tipster said, but higher-ups at the company are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock—the first-person PC series that inspired games like Bioshock and Arkane's last project, Dishonored"
Besides Human Head's Prey 2 was totally different from the original Prey just as well.

Well, Obsidian were the first to start development on the Prey (2) reboot so I guess Avellone remained on it even when development switched to Arkane.

Went over the leaked document again, here is the relevant scenario from the suggested 4:
Quote:
The player awakes in a high tech apartment -Bankok2072 (A month before the events in System Shock 1)
He believes he is a hit man, he’s kept company by a young robotic girl that he developed the AI for. (Danielle S?)
Its revealed he’s been reliving the same day over and over – the loop is broken and he awakes in a high tech medical lab. Danielle runs off – the player gets up and attempts to follow her.
He makes his way out of the lab and discovers that he’s Inside an advanced industrial complex of some type.
He comes across high tech labs where experiments attempting to reverse engineer extremely advanced technology have gone horribly wrong.
The player recovers hybrid technology weapons, then stealths their way past security sentries, while fighting Off military robots and experiments gone wrong.
The player chases Danielle deeper into the complex – she seems obsessed with finding something that’s calling out to her.
Potential spoilers begin here:
Spoiler:
As he goes further into the complex he realizes it’s been built On top of a massive alien ship that crash landed some time ago
On board the ship –it’s a different style altogether – the technology is a combination of alien metal and transparent materials -it has a fluid / organic design style to it in contrast to the harsh angles of the complex surrounding it.
The player comes across a huge domed alien habitat – complete with alien flora and
fauna. There’s a bank of lights that create an indoor time of day cycle.
The player makes his way through the guts of the ship – eventually reaching The control center. The player discovers Danielle plugged into the alien mainframe. She’s has become exponentially more powerful and is able to act as a mouthpiece
for the alien intelligence.
Danielle communicates the Alien ship’s demands that the player retrieve tech
imbedded in the experiments gone wrong (sub-bosses). The player takes a new route back out of the alien ship, through the human labs fighting / stealthing along the way.
Danielle also starts instructing you on how to royally fuck over the aliens. You decide which missions to do. You recover new weapons and fight different enemies based on your choices.
Game wraps with the aliens leaving or with their ship blowing up… depending on which course you follow. Either way Danielle survives as a fledgling super AI that’s been deeply damaged by her contact with the Aliens.
My note:
Spoiler:
Basically they imply Danielle S. at the end of the game becomes SHODAN after being softwaremind-raped by the Alien intelligence. No they don't have the System Shock license, nor did they ever plan to get it, but it was being thought as a spiritual successor or spiritual prequel to be more exact. (After all it's not like SHODAN's actual origin story is compatible with this so it can only be "in spirit").

I wasn't too keen on this re-reboot initially (once again, picking the name Prey makes little sense when you change everything), but if it's a System Shock-ish game and MCA is involved in this (with Arkane developing), my hype-o-meter is a bit moist

Hines explained that Arkane Studios has broken the franchise down to that core concept and is building it back up to what it thinks Prey should be. When asked if it would be a horror game, Hines said it won't be, but it will have a "psychological element to it."
"You see hints of some of that in the trailer, but it's an immersive first-person action game," he said. "It's a systems-based game that Arkane is known for. They're known for creating really well-realized worlds where everything isn't just tangible, but there's logic and reason behind it.
"There's a reason why this space station is the way it is that you find yourself on, there's a reason for the ecology for the aliens that you see and are fighting and trying to survive."
Hines added that there's a lot of player choice, while reiterating that it's not an open world. He said it's the same kind of open-level game like Dishonored with a lot of freedom to approach things in different ways.
Well everything Arkane made so far (Arx Fatalis,Dark Messiah of Might and Magic,
Dishonored) was great and i liked it a lot, i have high hopes for this but i don't really see the point in calling this game Prey since it seems to have nothing in common with the first game and not a lot of people actually even remember it or care after all this time but i guess ZeniMax payed some good money for the IP and want's to use the name for something so whatever.
