I feel sorry for a lot of the members of their staff who actually do the work they're given. Although TBH they all must know the project is utterly doomed, especially pulling out of E3 - I suppose they need money like the rest of us - I'm just astounded they're still getting paid...

The people left working there can't find better work and/or don't care. The mass exodus already happened of people that were truly talented. The mismanagement by Sandi is what drove a lot of them off.
I have no hope for this game and wish I would have asked for a refund of my $300 back when I had the chance.
Glad to see more bullshit concept art for 50 million new ships. I only check this thread now about once every 3 months and i'm amazed at all the new ships constantly teased yet my caterpillar is still no where to be found.

If it was any other game, I doubt it would have happened. But it's been many years since a decent epic space opera was developed, and like myself, thousands of people happily paid for a chance to get some of that great space gameplay back.
I absolutely believe that it all started with the best intentions - but as the money kept rolling in, the goals slowly shifted towards making as much cash as possible, and then spending it on Robert's own personal dreams, rather than delivering what was promised to us.
The annoying thing is I firmly believe that this is a criminal issue now - gaining funds by fraudulent means. It doesn't matter if the person spending the money might be naive - it's still illegal in most countries to obtain money by advertising a product - and not delivering it in a timely manner.
If this was say, EA, and they didn't hide being crowd funding, and just said 'Pay us some money - when we get enough we'll make the game' - and they did what CIG have done, they would absolutely face criminal investigation.

The thing is, the only part Roberts has to do here after so many years is to put 'something' out there. Like.. "Here you go. Here is Star Citizen, see?"
and If it turns out the game is shit, people will complain about it, but so many games are shit these days though, and nothing ever guarantees a success, not time nor money can guarantee a good game; good as in fun, good as in addictive with staying-power.
The unlikely scenario is if he doesn't produce "a game" at all, and the project is canned - but that'll never happen, simply because of the pure rage it'll ignite from backers, and Roberts reputation will never recover.
So yeah, he'll release Star Citizen at some point, if only to avoid the "What did you do with our money?" Instead he'll get: What is this, a space sim for ants!?"

You think he gives a shit at this point? This is no different then swindling equity holders out of their money when a company declares chapter 11. Except in this case you can't even hire a bankruptcy lawyer to at least fight for your equity for value moved forward in the newly formed company.

A nice representation of the current status of the ships:
(Flight ready ones can still have missing elements or issues btw)

What's the status of the rest of the game though, as in the process of building and adding content to the wider universe? I know there'll be a lot of generic, copy & paste areas, but as long as there are some that stand out I don't really mind.

The first time she saw him she understood right away this was the man who could make $100 million out of thin air.
