I'm very happy with the game so far.
No bugs or crashes aside from the long start-up issue which has already been fixed. Running it on Ultra-ish/2560x1080 on an R9 280X (which, let's be honest, is not the best idea), I'm only encountering severe FPS drops during sieges. Other than that the game stays at 30+ FPS and I consider that playable for a TW game. Plus, DX12 is supposedly going to improve things quite a bit.
As for the gameplay, I'm not too far into the campaign yet, but I'm loving how different it feels in comparison with the previous TW games thanks to the monster units, magic and race-specific mechanics.

So tempted to buy this, but the Steam reviews are awful. Also, it is way overpriced on all key sites (so far).
One has to ask, why no demo? So us plebs can try it out? Would you buy a car only to find the gearbox was fuc*ed? (for you Yanks, a gearbox is used to change gears in a manual fashion) Of course you would not, so why buy a half arsed game?
Still, I am tempted....But

Well to be fair, demos are rare these days.
Still, I'm not buying it unless I get a key for less than 20€ or something.
Maybe it gets cracked in the meantime, and if not, at least it'll have some patches done by the time I get to it.
Knowing Total War, waiting for a few patches before starting is probably not a bad idea no matter what.

Saying 'demos are rare'. Is not an excuse to not release a demo, I am not having a go at you. Just stating that devs have become lazy and expect us all to buy their game based on reviews, which, we all know are either biased or paid for.
Anyway, not releasing a demo is even more reason to pirate the fucker. No excuse.

There are demos...in form of refunds. You play 2 hours, and if you don't like it, you ask for refund.

It has nothing to do with lazyness. The current development process and marketing landscape make demos for AAA titles a waste of resources.

Yes I know, but why should you? I have never actually requested a refund on Steam, simply because I rarely buy a game from Steam directly as it is too expensive. But, as I said why should you have to request a refund? My argument still stands, no demo? Then tough shit if people pirate your game.

Demos were very important in a world where let's plays and youtube videos in general were not as prevalent. Today you can see everything a game has to offer by doing the proper research, so the added benefit of playing a demo is only small in comparison to how crucial they were 15 years ago. I mean, sure it's nice to be able to play a demo, but it's not as important as back in the day.

What was the last Total War to have a demo anyway - Shogun 2? Also, for a game of this type, what do you expect to see in a limited two battle demo?

I think most people want a demo to check the performance. So two full stack armies in a semi-forested map would be a good benchmark. Maybe a siege battle as well.

How it performs on one's PC, for one. Since SEGA/CA are notorious for releasing buggy pos games at launch.
Also, a few (say, 20-30) turns of campaign should be included to get an appetizer to get a feel of how the "revamped" (read: dumbed down) mechanics work.

Same as Attila.
And when has a Total War demo given a 20-30 turns? I haven't played the demos much, but I doubt any did.

I'm not saying that any TW demo was given that treatment, but that's how it should be in order for players to get a fairly proper assessment of the game mechanics.
Or just release the tutorial as a demo, ffs. It usually includes the basics and a couple of battles. That really shouldn't be a big deal.

Quite upsetting. I wonder if D. has also something to do with fucked-up performance.

I saw it.
If you look only at that dude's video (idiot gaming, at least self-explanatory) and don't see the thing in perspective you might think that TW:W is almost on par with Rome II release, performance wise. Which is not even comparable.
EuroGamer performance review indicates (arguably slightly) different scores. On, almost, every Twitch stream people are having at least decent performance/FPS.
As a fast test if you can try this on an i7-3770k/GTX 970 you'll get an overall better experience than that guy.
So, what does that mean ? Does it have glitches, bugs, exploits ? Of course, it's a TW on release day. Most of them will get fixed in several months, some will persist.
At this moment is it playable, fun, even engaging ? I tend to say that for the most buyers it is.
Fucked-up performance ? I call that exaggerated at least. I dare to say that, from a guy who owns all TWs from day 1, this title has the best performance on release day from them all.

It's nice to see that the AI is allowed to spawn full 20 unit stacks out of thin air over a single turn. This has been going on since Shogun 2, and it's fucking bullshit.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Well, with many people posting and having their own opinions and experiences, you're bound to run into discrepancies from time to time
My gaming laptop: i7-4810MQ processor, GTX 770M graphics, 16 GB RAM, and the performance is really good.
By that, I mean that on medium/low settings, I can play in windowed mode at stable fps, while watching a stream on a second monitor, and the gpu temperature never exceeds 88 degrees.
As a comparison, for instance Dark Souls 3 was not playable in windowed mode on my rig (gpu temperature at 90+, low fps/stuttering) even on lowest settings and without anything else going on. (I had to play it in fullscreen mode)

Does anyone has a strategy to defend against the orc raiders? Playing dwarfs but they pop up everywhere and are almost impossible to chase. Never lost a battle and way stronger then the orcs, still i'm losing the campaign cause of the raids over time.

Never thrust only the hump for opinions.. I can't remember any game that was well received here. Even in Witcher 3 there were a lot of people complaining

It's a lot easier to be critical of a game you pirated. You have little personal investment in it, so there's no need to pull punches. Most of the heaviest fanboying - both here and elsewhere - is by people that bought it (especially if they pre-ordered, and/or paid full retail price).

That's normal yes, someone putting more effort into liking a game they paid for versus one they just downloaded for free
