Nah it's on Cs.rin although I don't know if there's an actual "scene" release of the game.

So it is somewhat "hardcore" 2d platformer/sdiescroller/explorer akin to old NES/SNES/SEGAMD games but "Souls like"?

How long until Battletoads will be called "souls like"?

@Civ01

it's not a hardcore platformer except for this single area. The game is great btw. Very Happy

PS And I think it deserves to be called "souls lite" Laughing

I've just beat the final boss..

What a great game. 8/10.

It needs some balancing patches though. For instance, . Dragonfire tier 4 spell was nerfed into oblivion and is useless now,.
Range\damage\focus depletion is just totally meh..

lightning barrage(tier 1) and fire barrage (tier 2) especially fire barrage is MUCH better.

How long did it take you?

The DS games take several 10h to finish.
S&S looks like a much shorter game. Like 15h max if you do everything?

I dunno.. steam says 40+ hours lol.. -4-5 hours of leaving the game idling in the background..+ some items farming+ I went back to earlier areas coz I could access places thanx to jumping etc upgrades.

Besides, I play games like this really slow. Very Happy

If you'd played this game you'd see why people call it Souls like. The main menu looks identical to a Souls game, even the game version number text looks exactly the same. The character creation pretty much identical. The equipment screen identical. The game has bonfires, when you rest at them you reset the amount of HP pots you have... You spend "salt" to level up (it's souls) which gives you points to use in a skill tree where there are stats (biggest difference from Souls, but in practicality it's not very different). You can join different creeds (covenants/factions) and they then provide you different benefits... The only real differences between this game and a Souls game is that this is a 2D game and that when you die to a mob, your "salt" ends up inside that mob so you have to kill the mob to get it back (instead of just rushing to pick it up). So it's a bit more hardcore in that respect since you only get one chance to get it back (or so I think).

So yeah, it IS Dark Souls 2D and I like the game a lot.

Indeed, I couldn't agree more Razz. Many games try to embrace such approach but they do it as a cheap/superficial selling point, without providing any actual depth.
This one on the other hand is legit and competent (almost like a homage), it borrows Dark Souls' mechanics so well that the 2D->3D transition is painless, and the devs clearly understand why the entire system and dynamics work well in the first place.

@Horny: good to hear! I'm taking it slow as per usual, still at the beginning, slaying beasts in the Castle with style (not really, I'm just a boring chop chop knight, always my #1 choice Very Happy)

Ah, okay, that makes sense. Guess they've just went safe route and copies DS formula knowing it will sell like hot cakes.

I downloaded this today, it seems to be really well done - has properly thought out and deep mechanics, various build paths, and it feels like a souls game thanks to its design. Really nice.

Never played a Souls game for more than an hour, and really love this. It also plays really well, no clunkyness, it feels very smooth and tight, boss battles haven't felt unfair yet.

Buying recommended!

Several games do that if they can't detect audio, not really sure why but I guess it's some API issue?
