I have one of those PWM hubs on my MB, which I have 3x case fans plugged into, now, I have never been able to monitor these fans or control them in any way. They are always at full speed regardless if the system is idle or whatever. The only way I can achieve any control is to plug one of the fans (which are 3 pin) into the 4 pin connector on the hub, however, this leaves me with only 1 system fan (at the front) I can then monitor this one fan in BIOS or software, having only one fan is pretty pointless though, of course I could plug the other 2 back in and go back to hearing my PC from the pub down the road
But, before I did this why could I not monitor the fans? The cable from the HUB was on a 4 pin connector on the MB, which I am lead to believe is needed to monitor or have any control.
Now, what if I were to get a PWM splitter cable and piggy back 2 of the fans onto the other plugged into the 4 pin slot.
Would this work? Would it cause any issues? (I did not build the system by the way)
I know very little about these hubs but have been told it is impossible to monitor or control any fans on a hub, although I have managed one.
Furthermore, I have a case that has no 5.25 bays or in fact no bays at all in it, therefore a 5.35 fan controller is out of the question.
Is there an alternative fan controller I could get? Perhaps a PCI card ?
Ideally, I would like full control over all fans and able to set them up so they will be absolutely silent when the system is idle, but kick in when they are needed
Any way I can configure, control all my fans either manually or a mixture of hardware and software. Basically, I want to set them up and not have to worry about heat being the bastard we all know it is.
As you can tell I am not too clued up on this, only what I have been reading up on. So any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers
