Wise decision. No reason to go against Star Wars 8.

Laughing It's not like that. It's that Star Wars is competing for all demographics. You don't break $2 billion otherwise.

The original is a top 5 favourite film for myself but this new shit should not bare the Blade Runner name. The original film / story was complete, i.e no more to tell and no questions to ask. I don't believe Ridley or the guy that wrote the screenplay to the original can deliver a Philip K. Dick level story for this film. It was also absolutely ground breaking for special effects in its time.. i just wish they would leave this stuff alone. Typical film of this generation, rape an IP or someone else's universe rather than create something original.

The original movie had a great style and atmosphere but the story was complete shit and so were most of the actors. sadly it's way too overhyped and i can't wait for this remake and finally a proper movie in this setting.

Gattaca for example is a Great sci fi movie which has everything. Blade runner may be the Best "cyberpunk" movie till now but that is only because there were not many or even none made.
Like i said it had Great style and atmosphere and i like all this futuristic stuff but for me that is Not enough to make the movie Great. There must be more to it which was missing.
Maybe i would even agree on the first half of the movie but the Rest of it is complete crap (for me)

Care to elaborate? Very Happy

Harrison Ford wasn't prolly a good choice for this role although he was pretty OK , but Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, others?

Rutger was fucking great, a perfect Roy.

he may be not the best choice for this movie yes but in my opinion he was still the better movie actor then for example hauer.
hauer was overacting the whole time, every scene and should stick to theater play then making movies. i couldn't stand him and he made everything worse for me. man i even would like a arnold schwarzenegger like in total recall more then a actor who overacts every scene.

I think the improv monologue Rutgar did at the end of Bladerunner is one of the best delivered on film. To compare Gattaca and Bladerunner is kind of tough (I like Gattaca too) but would find Bladerunner to explore more complex themes through Rutgar and Ford's characters.

You can like/dislike it anyway, my problem is this is essentially Gattaca 2 i.e 100% unnecessary sequel to a story that had a definitive start, middle and end.

To this very day, I keep looking around and I see many incidences of "wow, that was in Blade Runner back in the early 80s and now, its.. here!".. Same with Minority Report (Summer 2002) - frightening how some of those "visionaries" are getting it right. Surprised

It's no coincidence that both were written by Philip K Dick Smile

Doubtful. It's too expensive. It would be essentially a period show and they all are pretty expensive. + CGI and stuff.

I think it would be doable in terms of production values, even SyFy is getting good at that sort of stuff (dat Expanse), there's hope for everyone Very Happy

The problem is finding the right talented people, writers and a valid director..now that's indeed a tough task. i.e. Fox should stay away from anything Sci-fi-related, their nu-version of Minority Report was just disgusting Sad Laughing

I need this to be a good movie. It needs to inspire more movies and series in this type of setting. We see more music and some games draw from it more which is good, but it still isn't 'popular' I'd say.
