More crap also in the article, DX12 and Windows 10 in its full glory |
Embarrassing all around. Let's applaud the amazong derpelopers for creating innovative blurrorama tech that is so advanced, adding SLI support is soe impossible. Really commendable.
Most of the issues seem Retardedy Entertainment related. Other stuff like inability to disable vsync is Microsoft shit, but nowhere as embarrassing as these retards' engine.

I'm glad this was a mess, and I hope every other Windows 10 Store game that comes out is a shitfest. The sooner everyone can reject this, the sooner Microsoft can give up this current attempt to get into PC gaming and go back to focusing on consoles.
No good will ever come from Microsoft getting more involved in PC gaming. Nothing in their previous or current PC gaming endeavors have proven to me that they care at all about what makes PC gaming what it is.
Go away Microsoft. Besides, the last I heard, the Xbone desperately needs help anyways.

I just wish Microsoft would let developers port their games to Windows, but without Microsoft overhead and meddling. Just give them permission, pay the wages, release the games on Steam, reap the profits. Done.

Only games published under Microsoft Studios are "required" to use the store, and that's because it's in Microsoft's interests that the store grow. No other developer/publisher has been forced to use UWP/Windows Store. Rise of the Derp Raider created a UWP version because they wanted to be everywhere.

Also, as shown in the above link, all the retarded issues in the engine are all related to terrible development and engine design, not MS or UWP platform.

It has it, in the form of Origin and Uplay and Battle.net. How many more exclusive/locked stores do we need? And at least none of the *others* enforce ridiculous limitations - that and they aren't trying to force parity in pricing due to competition with another platform they own. Or do you think £50+ PC games is good for the consumer?

I am not arguing the MS store is implemented well right now. But I don't see what is wrong as having it. If it was on par with other stores, I would actually prefer a first-party (to the OS) store, with some of the benefits of UWP, such as quick uninstall, no garbage files left somewhere in %APPDATA% (Local, LocalLow, Roaming ), Documents, Documents\My Games\, etc. Also a better permission model, etc. So if none of the current limitations existed, price points were sorted out, I see nothing wrong with it. And you can already sideload UWP applications with no need to modify anything in the OS. I see nothing locked there, other than API "locked" to Windows, just like DirectX is "locked" to Windows.

That's just the point, it's *not* on par with other stores, it's markedly worse in several - key - aspects and sadly I don't see it getting any better, because why would it? Microsoft wants the XBONE to succeed and is hardly going to go out of their way to make the PC competitor the better version.

My initial thoughts are that MS want the XBone and PC versions of a game to be the same - regardless if the PC has to suffer because of it.
Clearly they want the Xbox to be the only gaming service in town, and by making PC users go through the same hops that Xbox One owners go through, they probably believe that we'll just go get an Xbox anyway because the gaming quality is the same anyway - and I expect there to be 'exclusives' that are not available on PC for Reasons.
Steam is the premiere gaming portal, purely because it is the most well known. Origin, Uplay and the like are purely a means to an end; the ability to sell games and their DLC as efficiently as possible. None of those portals offer the player anything particularly useful; at least Steam is trying with streaming and broadcasting.
Publisher Portals are simply a profit gateway. And a bane on PC gaming today. Valve get away with it as they allow 'anyone' to publish through it.

I don't know if I would say that Origin doesn't offer anything useful. Unless I remember incorrectly, Steam tried streaming/broadcasting AFTER Origin did it, they followed in EA's footsteps.
Origin also has a better way to try games (less limitations than Steam's free weekends, but with a lesser selection of games) and their refund system is amazing. Far ahead of Steam.
I don't mind Origin all that much. It's been pushing Steam to get better.

But Origin only sells EA stuff. That's a bit of a limitation, no?

Origin sells non-EA games too. I think they started maybe 2-3 years ago. They're not advertised as heavily as EA games, but they share many games with Steam.
Something else I also forgot was "Origin Access". It's not something I'm particularly interested in, but it's 5$ a month for the ability to play 18 EA games and save 10% off purchases on Origin.
Origin Access isn't limited to EA games, either. You can get Torchlight 2 through it.

plus gfwl was more of a gimmick whereas windows 10 store is one of the main focus points of windows 10. It's here to stay.
NO LINKS TO ILLEGAL STUFF IN SIGS - DLC IS ILLEGAL TOO

I can live with that, as long as only microsoft's "quality" exclusives are bound to the platform and the store

its not really dead, games that depend on it still work no?
DeadRising2 via GFWL worked acceptable while the patched Steamworks version does not

Well maybe instead of bitching for years, companies like Nvidia and AMD can work together to make DX obselete for example. Or devs can actively support Linux. Untill that happens, MS can do whatever they want since they control it.

exactly. so imagine how long it takes for something that's deeply ingrained in the OS itself and used as an aggresive push to gain win10 market share, to die.
I'd imagine new consoles will be out sooner.
