I have this digital food thermometer



and it turns itself off the moment its tip touches or very close to the bottom of IKEA stainless steel pot while the induction cooking panel is working Surprised Confused

If I turn off induction panel I can poke the bottom of the pot all day long.

Induction panel is grounded and attached via residual-current device thingy.

Anybody knows what causes such effect ?

My guess: The electromagnetic field is the cause.
To protect the electronic in the thermometer, it turns off itself.

Yep, you are right. But so far I googled nothing to why it happens.

Only found this article http://www.cdnw.com/article/thermometer-technology explaining on how thermometers works. And mentioned that induction panel may cause interference. But not explaining why Sad
