+1 that would be awesome - even though i really enjoyed Darkness 2 - from what I heard first one was actually better game

I hope they don't remain as faithful to the archaic UI and controls.

It will be released on consoles, too. So they will try to streamline the controls and UI I think.

Looks good though.

Even SS2 improved upon the controls and UI in 1999 so of course they won't leave them as is in 2016+.

I am surprised Night Dive Studios manage to get the rights to the series,I thought EA owns them ? Scratch Head

Irrational games, the original devs had to make an whole new series(what we know has Bioshock) to 'continue' the series with their own way.

I am fully aware it's not a sequel, but even remake you need to get some rights,I hope for remake for second game, maybe even revive of the series altogether.

No, an insurance company held the IP rights after they acquired all Looking Glass's assets. I think EA retained the distribution/publishing rights for SS2 for a long time, but eventually the insurance company got those as well. Now Night Dive has the rights for both it would seem.

That commitment to preserving the essence of the 1994 release is made apparent in concept artist Robb Waters' participation with the remake, which will be powered by the Unity engine.

Ugh, fucking Unity.

Well I guess it's that and it runs OK'ish or UE4 and it requires massive hardware even for a corridor game like the first and second System Shock kinda were though it was impressive back then. Very Happy

EDIT: Removed complete rant.

Never mind. I found in-game shots on their webpage so can see they're going for a refresh, not a new game. It looks pretty cool, though Smile

I was prepared for the inevitable backlash of disappointment, and instead after seeing the screens Everything Went Better Than Expected

I mean it looks 'over-the-top' with the CA and Unity-ness, but they didn't even alter the layout of the levels, there aren't huge arrows, and the Shock 'n Execute is nowhere to be seen. Very Happy Laughing

Yep.

Hopefully you can disable the motion blur and the overuse of bloom though. Or at least reduce the latter with Reshade.

It could work as one but yeah some stims and such later and you're killing mutant lords, robot death machines and cyber commandos or what they were actually named with nothing but a (t)rusty iron pipe. Razz

Difficulty level scaling even allows for AI to be entirely passive until you attack first (But it's broken in the original game if I remember it right, unsure about the updated re-release version and how difficulty selections will work at all in this remake.) but yeah it quickly turns into a shooter.

I strongly disagree.. the atmosphere is clearly meant to be influenced by both horror and sci-fi / cyberpunk.. atmosphere is spot on.

Not sure about the mutant, he looks too cartoonish in comparison to the rest.

I will admit i probably never played it with the music turned on, but other than the crappy GM-music it's obvious to anyone that the setting is very horror inspired.

At the time most of the music for PC games used this GM standard and it was pretty terrible overall.

Bloody hell, that was great. Surprised They truly spared no expense when it comes to nextgen(tm) effects, but apart from the vaseline it's much much better than I initially imagined. They perfectly nailed the aesthetics (without butchering the original style). We don't know how the inventory/interface will be like (hopefully, not too dumbed down), but so far so good, color me impressed.

Some of those textures looked like crap. Too saturated, enemy looks retarded and not menacing, there was no SS atmosphere (while I agree that it was definitely pretty much a horror inducing game. The best part was the logo at the end. And that voice over sounded pretty amateurish.. no no, this is not the game you've been looking for...

It's not the finished game you are looking at though, pixelation and bad textures aside i really liked it. If a big "AA" studio recreated this game, you would have something much, much worse..

I'm guessing it'd kind of difficult to blend the rather cartoonish / pulp fiction look of the original game with modern and rather realistic graphics. I hope they come up with a good balance.
