@couleur

That's actually the best analogy in this thread as it breaks it really well.

Fuck you!

The artist need the gallery and the gallery needs the artists. Both profit from each other, both are dependent on each other. It seems to me that when the art gallery decides to change its policies to worse, the artists are going to complain. No?

Oh yea, I wasnt saying anything about the issue of the screwiness of the policies and how they are being fubared. I agree they are screwing it all up.

Like that GradeAunderA video, I agree with most of it. Even the part about him bitching it's causing him to lose his cut of it from youtube. But hes not out there going "OMG I never thought a shaky relationship with a huge free video content site would jeopardize my ability to survive!"

My whole thing was people that jumped into it, making a career out of it. And after making enough to get off someone else's coat tails (youtube) they decided staying under this total lack of content control situation with youtube holding the scissors on the strings of your entire income ability was the safe way to go. And freaking out when this bites them in the ass.

I guess to keep the artist analogy
The are artist that handed over every painting they have, and gave the galley full rights to do whatever they wish with the painting. Including giving it to a hobo to burn for warmth. And then the artist going "NOO I put everything I ever painted in their hands, and they decided they didn't want me anymore. HOW DARE THEM! I was gambling on my livelihood all in one place, and it backfired. I need to find a blame goat."

Like this example, there is a LOT like it.
It just sounds so "OH SHIT, I didnt plan this out well. One small hickup totally fucked me up, and I quit my job and everything. How dare you youtube!"

more fool them for putting all their eggs in one basket. If one is careful the likelyhood of going under is less likely, not impossible but less likely. Which then gives the individual a sense of weight off the shoulders instead of crying into ones hands and moaning to an audience about it they don't even know.

Fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Sensible streamers tend to work or still learn at uni or college because they are well aware of the pitfalls that could lay ahead. Does this make those that don't think this way dumb and deserving? Maybe.... It all boils down to if you care a toss about their situations really, for me I just laugh a little and watch something else that is way more interesting.

This guy to anyone with half a brain should be seen as putting it all on for sure, his whole demeanour is suspect, he even went to the trouble of having a pulsing tinging noise backing track to make it seem more sad.

Not a proper analogy since you aren't giving the rights to youtube, your video is still your video, by copyright law.

These guys are getting screwed by copyright notices and losing money while the ones that claimmed the videos are getting it. That's unfair and Youtube is not properly enforcing its own rules. They can make their own rules but they have to enforce them properly. People are getting copyright strikes for vids where it's jsut them talking to the camera on their front porch lol.

Now I see opinions in this thread like:
"Why did they follow this insecure career path? Serves them right."
"They put all their eggs in one basket lol"
"These idiots would be flipping burgers if people/kids weren't clicking their vids and watching the ads"

Excuse me, but what does that have to do with anything? We are talking about copyright laws, fair use etc. Youtube has a responsibility to follow the laws and the rules it has set for itself.

Their automated system doesn't work properly, their policy of "guilty until proven innocent" sucks and ... where is their Support department in all of this? Even Youtubers with more than a million subs cannot get a human to talk to Laughing

EDIT: If they cannot handle the volume of work, then at least they should give priority to the more established channels.
